Both the couch and the chair are recliners. They're suuuuuuuuuper comfortable. We're pulling up the carpet and replacing it with laminate next week, which I'm really excited about.
Yours is very similar to the set in our basement. I love nappig on it because it's so cozy. Easy to clean, too.
I'd keep the blinds and just add curtains on top. Is the red your color and what you're decorating around? Any other colors visible from that room? JC Penney is my favorite place for window coverings, and they have great sales you cans stack with coupons. Kohl's sometimes has a good deals too. Amazon is so so but sometimes has nice options. It's hit or miss there.
I would find curtains with some kind of pattern to add some interest to the room. What accent colors are you planning to use? I would tie those in. Any throw pillows or blankets for the room?

Something patterned is a good idea. I'm actually planning to go shopping today for blankets and throw pillows, but I'm not sure what colors to get. Right now, the only non-neutral color in the room is the red wall. There's also a brick fireplace on the opposite wall, and everything on the TV wall is neutral (black, wood, picture frames, etc).
I'm also not totally attached to the canvas on the red wall. I've been considering moving it to a difference place in the house, because I feel like it's a little bit too small for that space. I just don't want to move it until/unless I can find something to replace it with.
The laminate we're installing for the flooring is cherry wood.
There's also a window on the red wall. I'm trying to decide if I should add curtains there, too, or if that would be too much curtain in one room. Let me see if I have a picture that includes the window....
I agree, definitely patterned curtains. I may be mistaken, But I think Target has some the right colors for that room. I don't have time to find links for you though at the moment.
I LOVE the chair, but you would have to change the wall. Also I don't think it would go with your new furniture either. Maybe in your bedroom?
I think I would try to bring in white, gray, and maybe a little bit of navy and yellow. For curtains, I would choose a pattern with neutral colors and bring in more fun colors with throw pillows and blankets that have red in them to tie in with the red accent wall. Are you planning on getting a coffee table or lamps?
It's hard to see in the picture but we have an end table set up in the corner between the couch and the chair, and we're planning to add a tall lamp in that corner. We're going to skip the coffee table, because ours always ends up collecting junk rather than actually being useful, and it gets in the way of the dogs. Especially Gus, who wants to run and flop all over the place.

Unfortunately, our bedroom doesn't have enough room for any additional furniture. There really isn't anywhere in our house where that chair would fit, but I loooove it so I almost want to buy it anyway. Haha.
Ooooooooh. Those curtains are fantastic! You don't think the grey would clash with the brown blinds? I was leaning toward a tan/white pattern because the walls that aren't red definitely have a bit of a tan/beige tone to them.
katespade Yeah, I just started thinking the gray could clash with the brown blinds, tan carpet, etc. A tan/white pattern is probably a better choice. I do like the trellis print. I will see what else I can find ina white/tan.
I was thinking about this one in either tan or brown.
I like the stripes! They have a modern look. I would go with tan, but that's because some of the reviews say that the brown looks more like dark gray, so if you're trying to avoid gray, I'm not sure about those.

I think tan would also help lighten up the room. There are a lot of dark colors right now, which can make it feel kind of like a cave when the windows aren't open, and we don't really like having the blinds open.
Oohh katespade they have the same trellis curtains in red and tan! I love them.
I noticed those too. They are bold, but definitely would brighten up the room and tie together the tan and red throughout the room.
I didn't even notice! Those are great... I wonder if that red would match the red wall, because that would be perfect if it did. And then maybe we could just get some nicer blinds made for the window rather than doing curtains there, too.
For throw pillows, is there anything you really like or are trying to avoid? Do you like florals or hate them? Any fabrics you prefer?
We aren't crazy pillow people. I'm thinking maybe one pillow for the chair and two or three for the couch. They would need to be cleanable (Gus is in the middle of an excited pee phase) and comfortable to actually use, so if they had a design/pattern I probably wouldn't want it to be texturized.

It's worth a try!
Now I really want to decorate our bedroom. It has looked the same for the past 5 years, and the curtains are kind of ugly - I bought them because they were cheap and I needed something quick. I feel like it's time to make it more sophisticated.

It's exciting to get to actually do some decorating! Every house we've lived in has felt temporary, so we've never bothered to do any real decorating. We've just bought what we've needed when we've needed it, and usually whatever has been cheapest. We've never really thought about a full room design.
Now that we own our house, we get to get serious about making the space our own. I wish we could do the whole house at once, but I'll have to be satisfied with one room every few months.

Okay, then the jute ones I suggested above are definitely out. I rarely use throw pillows myself, but they are an easy way to bring in some color. I like Marshalls and Homegoods for pillows, but I also have some from Kohl's.
@lapsha post some pics and your tastes and I'll help you shop! I'm hoping to do my bedroom this summer but I can't settle on a theme/color scheme...
katespade if the curtains don't touch the wall they don't have to be an exact color match. I hope you'll try them out and post a picture though. I really love them. Such a good price too.
