I have no idea. If you're being questioned I'd ask for a bathroom break every 15 minutes...they'll probably tell you to just go home after the 3rd request. LOL!
I would probably go and then get excused once you're there instead of asking to be deferred. I can't imagine you would actually get picked but this way you don't have to just reschedule.
I was picked when I was pregnant and got called before the judge for the routine "is there any reason why you don't think you can serve on this jury" thing and I told him I had scheduled obgyn appts related to the pregnancy that I couldn't miss and he turned to the two attorneys and they both said fine. And that was it. Pretty simple.
I thought for sure I'd get called again pretty quickly but DD2 is 4 now and still no jury duty.

I have to call in everyday, so they won't actually see me until I'm needed. I'd be afraid at that point it's too late and I won't have the option of getting out of it.
miso- know how long I can defer? I go back to work in September, so I wouldn't mind serving after then, but definitely don't want to be scrambling for care with a newborn or having to sit on a hard plastic chair with a giant maxi pad on after giving birth. Lol
It was for me. I called and told them I was 36 weeks and facing bedrest (which was true.) I had J the Friday of the week I was to report for jury duty (which was that Monday.)

No. I had fertility treatments scheduled and was already in the process of an $8000 round and they wouldn't excuse me from Federal jury duty for my morning U/S with a doctors note. Luckily, I didn't end up having to report.

It depends on your jurisdiction. In NYC I hauled my 8 months PG self on the subway and bus for what seemed like an eternity and went to the courthouse. They directed me to the clerk's office, I walked in, she took one look at me and said "Oh, baby, go home. I'll take care of this." I couldn't go home right away b/c I was too tired, so I had to sit on a bench until I could regain my strength for the long haul home. If I lived somewhere suburban where you can drive and park close by, maybe it would have been different, I don't know. I was called again a little under two years later.

I served grand jury duty a few months ago, and the judge only excuses one person who was going through chemo treatments. Everyone else who had extenuating circumstances was able to postpone for a few months or at least moved to petit jury duty. The one woman who was visibly pregnant was able to postpone until summer (4 months out).
I planned to go to jury duty at 37 weeks, but then my doctor put me on bedrest so I sent in the note and was excused. Then they called me 4 months later.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

I'm not sure about pregnancy, but (since you asked about deferral periods) in Chicago I was excused from JD for breastfeeding. I called and asked what the facilities/accommodations were for pumping (LO was at least 4 months at the time; I was back at work), and I was told that they had no such facilities. He's now 15 months and they haven't called me back yet.

When I got a summons while still out on maternity leave I was excused because I had a still nursing baby.

If you are on maternity leave you should qualify for this exemption:
1. Having active care of a child or children under ten years of age, and not employed outside the home. Jury service would require leaving the child or children without adequate supervision.
