Thanks to the Versailles thread below, we now have a bike tour set up. :-)
Does anyone have any suggestions for the landing beaches/cemetery at Normandy?
Right now the time line is 4 nights in the Normandy area (hotel already booked). On the fifth day tour Mt Saint Michel and then drive to the hotel by Versailles, tour the next day and on the last day drive back to London (plane leaves at 22:30).
Not sure if you are looking for a tour company to take you around for a day or do it yourself, but we were there 2 years ago and used Overlord Tours. They were excellent. We kind of made our own tour with the morning program from one tour and the afternoon of another (mostly the Band of Brothers tour) and they were very accommodating. They got us to Omaha Beach first thing before other tours started showing up. We also did Pont du Hoc and the American Cemetery. St. Mere Eglise is also a great town with a cool Airborne Museum. Here is their website: www.overlordtour.com/
We used Victory Tours (Roel) for a tour of Normandy. We took a day trip from Paris, but he met us in Bayeux (sp?). He does other trips besides the day tours. We really liked him and recommend him.
We went in December. We used Cabourg (it was a pretty cool old 1920s style hotel that was on the beach, I'd have loved to go back there in season - but the price would have likely been out of our comfort zone then) as a jumping off point and rented a car and drove up the coast to see the beaches. Part of the reason why we did it this way was that when I started looking for tours to Normandy in December, just about everything shut down - so we decided to do it ourselves. It really was nice being able to spend as much time as we needed at each, and to go to other sites that aren't exactly popular.
We also did Mont St Michel, you have to leave your car in a huge parking lot and take a bus over. We stayed in a hotel on the island, which was pretty cool as well.
