What are the items, if any, you'll spend pretty much anything on if you love enough?
I don't buy these frequently at all - I hate shopping so I'll buy good staples of these:
*jeans (I love AG, Paige) *bathing suit (I don't care about the brand name but it's a certain style/look/support/coverage combo. My latest is one from Title Nine.) *sunglasses (pretty Ray Ban loyal) *handbag (I tend to stick with Coach, minus anything with labels all over it)
spend pretty much anything - not really --- but I do spend top dollar on eye glasses, and a good deal on shoes. A good quality winter coat and jacket as well a variety of boots(winter) are worth what they cost and I don't wait for sales on those. Most the rest of my wardrobe is good quality but mostly on sale
Coats (Olivia Pope has my dream coat wardrobe.) Outdoor / Mountaineering Gear Shoes Handbags
Most everything else I go high / low on as needed / budget allows. But the above categories are those where I am usually spending top dollar, because they make me so happy and last and last. I was carrying my first luxury handbag purchase (a Gucci tote) last week and realized that sucker is well over a decade and looks gorgeous - and it was my work bag for a long time. Worth the $$ for my personal price to value equation!

Except for the outdoor gear, I could have written that post word for word
Handbags (still haven't gone over $150, but I love a unique, well-made bag) Shoes (rarely go over $100-$150, but again, the comfort and quality of well-made shoes make it worth it)
My hair? Does that count? I pay good money for high end salon coloring/highlights. $130ish plus tip.

Jeans A pair of nice shoes very occasionally, the rest are cheap
I still have @shoegal to thank for convincing me to buy mouse flats. They are 2.5 years old now, in perfect shape, and still make me smile every time I put them on. I wear them at least once usually twice a week.

I'm planning for a pair of Frye boots this fall.
I can't believe that was 2.5 years ago!   Â
Darn, I'm bad at math. It was December 2014 so 1.5 years ago.
Bras and shoes. I have one specific bra that I originally bought after a Nordstrom fitting. I will be very sad when Natori no longer makes it, and you know that they eventually will stop; they always do.
I have majorly screwed up feet, so when I need a pair of shoes that I'm going to spend some serious time in, I have no problem spending $100+ on them, but I do expect them to last for a few years.
Winter Coats- I've got a 20 year old Eddie Bauer snowline parka that cost $300 when I got it. Its been through a few Iowa winters and some wimpy Colorado winters and the damn thing still looks brand new. I feel bad that it gets no love since there is no need for it in San Diego but I can't bring myself to get rid of it.
Comfortable shoes. No overpriced designer shoes since every pair I have ever tried on in my size has been painfully uncomfortable. I will not buy shoes that make my feet hurt but I will pay good $$$ for shoes that are comfortable. Back when I was working jobs that required me to be on my feet it was normal to spend $100-$200 on work shoes for a job that paid $7.50 an hour.
Bras. I really hate nothing more than a bra who's straps start stretching/twisting after a couple washes. Jeans. And by top dollar, I mean, I buy them new as opposed to second hand like most of the rest of my clothes and accessories. It's hard to find 28x28 jeans.
I didn't think I could answer anything for this but reading through this, I'm like other posters. I wouldn't say I spend "top dollar" though.
Bras - I am particular about this. I don't like most random ones. I'm actually only happy with certain higher-end VS bras. I don't wear the bombshell bra, but I like a high quality push-up bra and I like the smooth, structured look of certain VS bras.
Hair - I spend money on highlights and high quality hair products. I do see a difference in my hair. My regular stylist is a family friend though and there's some peer pressure to support her. I've known her at least 10 yrs.
Make Up - It's not clothing but I do spend on high quality make up and/or perfume. I just don't buy a large quantity. When I have the chance, I do shop duty-free for this stuff. My make up collection is small but high-end and generally all useful for me.
As for shoes - I love Ecco which is a Danish brand and so I will pay for those but I bought the last pair at Black Friday.
I am picky about quality. I guess you could say that's generally true about me. I don't like to buy a lot of crap. I'm a decisive shopper and I know if I really want something. I rarely have buyer's remorse (and if I do, obviously, I learn and avoid that poor quality in the future).
I might buy a last season color if I get a discount, but otherwise I splurge on my hiking and backpacking gear, especially things like boots, backpacks, and rain gear.
I will also buy any pair of running shoes if I deem they are the ones that fit me best.
Almost everything else, I have at least some "reasonable ceiling" that I don't want to exceed.
I'm pretty cheap but in the last two years winter/fall coats. I moved to the NE six years ago and froze for the first 4 years. Now I'll only get north face or other higher end jackets/coats I now have a 3/4 length coat and a tri-climate jacket they probably cost $550 together but it is money well spent to keep me warm all winter and the quality is good so I'm hoping they last a long time.
Bras, skin care (conscious about ingredients/no animal testing).
I am starting to branch into higher end jeans and shoes. I realized my 20 dollar shoes only last 6 months or less and are uncomfortable. 100+ dollar shoes last years and pay for themselves. Higher quality jeans means I don't have saggy pocket ass.
I do wear premium denim, leather bags, nice shoes, etc. but I don't buy anything that isn't on sale, thrifted, second hand, etc. I check certain websites and stores periodically and buy when I see a steep discount, whether or not I need it, because it may be months before I see a good price again. I rarely ever just walk up in a store with a mission to buy XYZ with no regards to price, and if I do it's probably a specialty item that I need for a special occasion.
