We have Wal Mart or HEB. They're equidistant at about a 1/2 mile from our house. If I'm making Mexican food, I go to the Mexican food mart, about 1/2 mile from our house
We have a Fresh and Easy and Albertsons both under a mile away. Whole Foods is less than 10 minutes away. I've only shopped there a couple of times when we lived just around the corner from it.
We mostly shop at Costco which is about 5 minutes away.
ETA: there are also numerous grocery store closer than the Costco. Like Stater Brothers, Sams Club, Plow Boys, Grocery Outlet...
5 minutes to Kroger, 7 minutes to the delicious hippie organic local grocer with an incredible wine selection that costs more than I care to think about.

We have a little market here (right across the street), but it's ridiculously overpriced. I only go there if things are dire. Target, Costco, and Walmart are about 20 minutes away.

5 minutes to the regular grocery store I like. 2 to the one I don't like to shop at. If I go the specialty meat/fruit store it is 3 minutes from home and 2 from the other grocery store I stop at.
15 minutes in one direction to a Walmart. 15 minutes in the other direction to a Foodlion. There's a Piggly Wiggly and a Bilo about 30 minutes away from me.
The nearest Whole Foods and Trader Joes are 3 hours away. Costco is 3 hours away. There's a Sam's Club 1.5 hours away.
I have about 9-10 grocery stores within a 2.5 mile radius, including Whole Foods, 2 Trader Joe's, Bristol farms, a smaller local chain, Sprouts and 3 major grocery stores. I don't live in a food desert I generally avoid the major chains and go to the smaller local places for staples. I try to go on my way home from work, or on my bike, when I can.

I drive a little far just because the little markets are expensive and don't have much selection. I usually either shop at Meijer or a local grocery chain depending on what is on sale. There is a really small natural foods store, but it is nothing like Whole Foods.
Winco is a 4 minute walk or a 1 minute drive from our apartment. It's Safeway sizes with Costco pricing. We're spoiled for every other grocery store because it's so cheap and convenient.
It's only in WA, ID, NV, CO & OR.
Safeway is about 10 minutes away, but we rarely shop there. Costco is 10 minutes away as well. We go there at least once a week for gas if nothing else.

There is a Kroger by my work, twenty minutes from our house. The closest thing otherwise is Walmart which is fifteen min. We normally do a combination of farmers market, Kroger and Costco which is an hour a way in a city where dh works twice a week.
