Don't get me wrong. I LOVE WF. I love being there, I love their food, I get the same giddy feeling I get when I walk into a bookstore, like "all of this possibliity!" I just can't *afford* to shop there for most of my food. If I were rich, I'd shop there for probably all of my food only because I love being there and am in awe of all they have to offer.
And honestly, it's not good for my wallet to be there, even for a few things, because I'll way overbuy only because I'm so romanced by that place.

For 7 years we lived about a five minute walk from whole foods, as opposed to a 5 minute drive to Jewel-Osco ( and much farther to Dominick's). We used to shop at jewel weekly and then, whole foods monthly/bi-monthly. Slowly to switched to weekly and soon Jewel bqcame the monthly trip.
Now, we have moved and whole foods the farthest grocery but still the weekly staple. The produce is consistent in quality. If I want an avocado that is ripe today, I can get it. If I want one that will be ripe on2 days I can get it. Next week? Sure. Same wih bananas. We had an awesome local butcher ( and still do here) but honestly whole foods meats taste better. Their cider BBQ rubbed pork chops are my favorite thing to grill ever.
I also notice that I literally buy less junk at whole foods and when I hit the other grocery store I do. So I may get more food for my dollar at he other grocery but I get less junk food at whole foods and more produce. I get that it is more expensive, but ultimately I eat better foods when I shop there ( because Newman's own "Oreos", marshmallow oaties "lucky charms", or Tia's "Doritoes" don't tempt me as much). I threaten my "foodie" DH that we will stop shopping there eventually but I really do love it.
Yeah, Sprouts is pretty awesome only because they are so small and limited and don't offer all of the jazz WF does. The beauty/bath alone at WF could break me! Not to mention the wine and cheese, omg. It's like too much of a good thing for me.
confession: i only use store sale ads to find out who has wine on sale and I will only buy wine at grocery stores that give me 10% off for buying 6 at a time.
Yes! I have noticed so many grocery stores doing this. But.... I can't buy six bottles at a time. We'd drink them all, lol. The only time I can take advantage of that deal is if we're having a party.
I will put it out there that I am cranky right now, but this thread is irritating me! People, if you don't like WF don't shop there. It really is that simple. No need for the random generalizations about WF shoppers burning their money or just going for the labels? I shop there because I like the fresh produce. I enjoy getting organic strawberries that don't have fur all over them. I like the fresh fish and antibiotic free meats. There are certain dairy free yogurts I buy for my DD that cost $2.79/cup at Stop and Shop but they are $1.99 each at WF. They have a fantastic hot food bar for a quick dinner. I shop at Trader Joes as well but I am turned off by all the plastic wrap they use on the produce. I don't buy all of my groceries there, but I definitely make a weekly stop there and it is not because I'm looking for food label approval.
LOL
Sorry it was irritating. I just saw a lot of people in the grocery store thread mention they drive past other stores to go to WF and I didn't know what I was missing. But I did learn some things from this thread. I didn't know WF had bulk. I didn't realize that some FMs were more expensive than WF. I live in a relatively LCOLA, so that might be the difference.
