dog people: help with gross smell. Where is it coming from?!

No doodle flaming from me. There are doodles in rescue too.

Jumping on the bandwagon but my labradoodle can have the foulest smelling anal gland release. It is like nothing you've ever smelled before. He also had psedomonas (sp.) ear infections for the first year and 1/2 of his life that was extremely difficult to cure. DEFINITELY contact your vet.

Jenny - your dog looks so much like mine did as a puppy! He's now 11 & 1/2 and 97lbs!

We have a dog with allergies who, unfortunately, has given us lots of experience with ear infections and anal glands.

When her ears are infected, they smell like feet. Bad, dirty, sweaty feet. So, check his ears.

As others have said, we call anal glands "fish butt" when they express - because that's what it smells Like and where it comes from.

You also want to make sure his stool is firm enough to express the glands on their own. If they are continually expressed for him, you will forever have the 3 day old tuna smell. Normally groomers shouldn't express their glands because they're supposed to express on their own. There's supplements out there that help with this issue.

Canned pumpkin! NOT pumpkin pie, but plain, canned pumpkin. Works wonders. And it's cheap!

My cats do:( I hate it but it's necessary sometimes.

I felt like such a failure as a pet parent because his Core Wellness fancy grain free food made him so sick. He's doing so much better now and gaining back the one fifth of his body weight that he lost.
