This line from Pence is still pissing me off. It gives Trump way too much undeserved credit. I'm not as enamored with the Trump brood as the average person, but even if I were I just don't buy this line. We all know at least one phenomenal person who has at least one really shitty parent.
I think his kids are probably mostly cunning and smart. I'm not convinced they are good people, for the most part. The implication of that statement to me is that they are good, wholesome, caring people. I don't buy it and, like you, I don't like the implication that Trump is all of those things by virtue of his children.
I'm tired of hearing about how the kids turned out. I'm not enamored with them either, but however they turned out, it had nothing to do with him. He has admitted that all he did was finance them.

Well we also all know that he didn't raise his kids. Tiffany grew up in California and barely knows him, by all accounts. And then there's the famous interview where he flat out says that his role in raising children is providing money (so, he doesn't raise children).
And finally, wtf is so great about his kids anyway?

Actually I think you can fake it for a short amount of time. What does the public really know about any of them? The fact that they are THIS actively involved in his campaign implies that there is something seriously off about how they see the world (all his racist, sexist, bigoted remarks are what exactly? Not that big a deal if they get him elected? What kind of thinking is that?).

Plus lets not forget, you can hire really great nannies, teachers, tutors, coaches, etc. if you are willing to pay a lot of money. Parents are not the only adults who help to shape a child's character and worldview.

Seriously. The whole idea is so stupid.
And I'm sorry but if you are a millionaire (I don't buy he is a billionaire lol) and your kids have had every advantage from birth, being able to speak with some measure of intelligence and basically be able to know how to act in public is the very least we should all expect. It's like the very definition of participation trophy. Besides they all only seem okay because they aren't completely fucking nuts and disgusting like their father. Sad!

I was thinking about this yesterday. I have three siblings. I love my dad with all my heart, and I think he's a truly good man. But he and I are on opposite ends of the political spectrum, and I would not vote for him for President. Neither would one of my brothers. It seems so strange to me that all his kids are on the same political page as he is, especially since he had so little hand in raising them.

Their livelihood and lifestyle depend on his money. They aren't Republicans they are "Do-what-it-takes-to-keep-our-unstable-meglomaiac-dad-happy"icans
That is such a rich white Republican thing to say. And an absolute untruth.
It goes nicely with "they are good kids and didn't mean it so they shouldn't face consequences because they come from a good family" when they do fuck up.
And also nicely with "look at how they were raised. They were never going to amount to anything anyway." Gross.
What I can't stand about this argument for trump is that Ivanka herself put it out there. " My dad's words aren't hollow, just look at me and my siblings! We are great people!" Paraphrased, of course, but I can't stand that she is labeling herself the proof-in-the-pudding. I can't explain it well, but it rubs me wrong. Getting on a stage and promoting yourself and your accomplishments- good confidence and self worth. Good on you. Getting on a stage and espousing your moral compass and values as a tribute to your parents-some kind of boundary issues there.
Ivanka's speech bothered me for that very reason. Her talking about how she would sit in his office with him and build with legos while he built real buildings. Like she was spending her day under her dad's feet while he got shit done? Ugh. He just got lucky that none of his kids screwed up in a way that he couldn't cover up with his money.

I think Ivanka's speech last night proved she's quite clearly backing a more liberal agenda than most of the GOP, possibly including her facade of a father. (Depending on the day/ hour and his audience, of course)
The trumps are very mafia. I am watching the original shameless and the trumps are parroting whatever it takes to keep the family business mess running. Check your ego, opinions and values at the door, unless you are the boss.

This. They aren't supporting their father, they are doing the job their boss told them to do.

"You can't fake good kids" is such a weird thing to say. Like having kids who can give a speech is somehow an endorsement of oneself? We all know that's not true.
Also, the fact that it's coming down to Trump having well-behaved children as a possible qualification for him being president is lol, I just can't.
