I just got Rock Wedding in last night, the last in Nalini Singhs series. I'm about 15% in and I'm having trouble liking the Male MC. She always brings me around so I have faith, but the start was pretty depressing.
I'm listening to The Bone Season. It's OK at about 1/3 in. The narrator is a little monotone and while the character is a Irish, the accent that's coming through feels way off. It's distracting.
I've gotten back to Justice Hall (Laurie R. King), after setting it aside to read 11/22/63 and HP and the Cursed Child. I'm not sure why I'm having such trouble getting into it, but I am. I also received the latest Donna Andrews paperback and I've sworn that I won't start it until I finish Justice Hall.
QOTW: The Princess Bride. Loved the book and the movie did a really great job of maintaining the tone.
On the flip side, I have a hard time forgiving the HP producers for screwing everything up in the last 10 minutes of HP and the Deathly Hollows Pt. 2. Edited: Might be the last 15 minutes ... whenever the heck Voldemort just evaporates instead of dying like any normal human.

I think I have the same things going this week as I did last week. Listening to The Invention of Wings Reading Before the Fall and also I picked up Cursed Child. Hoping to finish that this weekend.
I absolutely love About A Boy. Both the movie and the book, even though they're pretty much completely different. It's one of those comfort movies I put on when I'm sick or sad.

I recently finished the second book of J.R Ward's Bourbon Kings series. It was so good. I'm pretty excited the NBC purchased the rights. It has a lot of potential to be Dallas like.
Trying to finish up Raven Boys so I can get on with my life. It's just ok to me. My sister raved about it.
ETA: QOTW - Gone with the Wind is my favorite movie, ever.

Ugh. I was so ready to be done with JR Ward. Look what you've done!!
I thought the first was just OK. Was the second the same or better than the first?

I'm reading The Picture of Dorian Gray and listening to The Vampire with the Dragon Tattoo (don't judge, it was available at my online library - the books I wanted to listen to are all still on the waitlist!)
QOTW: Shawshank Redemption (though I never read the book)
I'm about 3/4 of the way through both Me Before You (audio) and My Life on the Road (ebook). Also, I'm very angry with Will Traynor right now, and that's all I'm going to say about that.
My favorite is Practical Magic, but primarily because I love the movie and hated the book! I've discovered after reading a couple of Alice Hoffman's books I'm just not a fan of her writing. Oh well. I also felt like The Notebook gave more depth to the characters in the movie than the author did in the book.
The Procrastinator's Handbook: Mastering the Art of Doing It Now - I'm still procrastinating on reading it because I'm not finding it helpful. LOL!
Who Fears Death - I'm about 25% of the way in, and it's good so far (decent writing, plot seems on point thus far, little bit of magic, little bit of a post-apocalyptic setting), but it's rather uncomfortable to read at times because it deals kind of heavily with rape as a weapon of war.
QOTW: The Shawshank Redemption, followed by The Hunger Games movies. I'll also give an honorable mention to the 5th Harry Potter movie, because they toned down Harry's insufferable teen angst.
ufcasey, The Shawshank Redemption movie is better than the book - superior ending, and they rearranged the story line to make it linear in the movie so it flows better. The only thing you really gain from the book is Red's backstory.
I'm reading Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, which is really, really good.
I love Sense and Sensibility-- so pretty.
Interesting - I saw an interview with her recently and it looked good, but I'm just not sure if I'm up to reading it.
It is definitely intense in parts, but the characters change each chapter, so that helps. (You might have heard in the interview, but it starts with two sisters and moves along through their descendants.)
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - I am not loving it so far, it seems too cheesy almost. But I was a huge fan of the original books growing up so I feel like I have to read it.

spedrunner I do the same thing with my mom! We haven't found any good books to movies that we would both be interested in lately though.
I'm reading The Giver and I really am enjoying it! I'm happy to learn that there are 3 more books. I have The Angel's Share, Cursed Child, Cujo, and The Infinite Sea ebooks checked out from the library. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to have much reading time because I have approximately 40 hours a day of Olympic covereage to watch for the next 2 weeks!
QOTW: I really enjoyed The Hunger Games. I thought they stuck to the books very well.

The interview was on Well Read, which gives you a solid 15 minutes with the writer, which is good. The interviewer is a little annoying, but that could just be my issue.
I'm still reading The Lake House. I don't think I read anything this week....
I tried listening to Hamilton during our road trip, but it made me drowsy so I gave up after the first chapter. I don't think it was the book itself; I just don't think that audio books are for me.
I'm reading The Three Kings by Alisa Valdez Rodriguez. I love her sassy main characters and sexy men.
My favorite book to movie is Dances with Wolves. It was almost identical to the book. I haven't seen the extended version, but it includes scenes from the book they took out for the movie.
This hasn't been posted yet, so I'll go ahead. Sorry @dorthyinaus!
QOTW: What's your favorite movie based on a book?
No problem. I was busy Thursday evening getting ready for a Friday class on yeast breads and finishing The Alpine Xanadu while the dough was rising.
Having finished The Alpine Xanadu, I've moved on to the second-to-last in the series so far, The Alpine Yeoman. I'm really enjoying the series more now, as the characters seem to have settled down and grown up a bit. The mysteries are interesting, but complicated by things that happened many books ago.
QOTW: I think the Hallmark Hall of Fame production of Sarah, Plain and Tall with Glenn Close, is much, much better than the original book. I was really disappointed reading the book after I saw that adaptation. I love The Princess Bride both as a book and as a movie. But I think my answer right now, today, is Auntie Mame, but that's another case of loving the book and movie equally well for different reasons.
