We have cable (only because the package was cheaper for high speed internet), Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus, Netflix, and MLB channel.
We don't have 529s for the boys, although their grandparents have them.
We just leased our car for the 1st time.
We have 6 figures sitting in an account earning 1% because we don't know what to do with it and we may need it for another DP in the next few years. Anyone have ideas of where else to put it that is easily accessible?
I don't know how much is in our retirement accounts. I just believe our financial advisor when he says we are fine. I also only contribute 10% of my income to mine.
We get Blue Apron delivery.
H spends a lot of money on coffee.
There are a lot more I'm sure but those are ones that other people are mentioning that we are guilty of doing.

We tend to get a five figure tax refund.
I don't know my husband's annual salary (it varies each month so I can't annualize) and he doesn't know his monthly salary).
I let him deal with investing and he lets me deal with daily bills and such. We have no checks and balances. i could not pay bills for months and he wouldn't know.
We probably spent too much on our house though since I don't know his salary, I'm not sure.
Okay, we have done mostly smart stuff. Then we do dumb shit like gamble, entertain, spend $$ eating out (freshly back from $100 dinner for 2 on a Tuesday night). YOLO.
So many lately... I put my kid in preschool fullday mainly so they'd get her to nap in the afternoon, meanwhile I'll be at home alone with no job 5 min away. I went on vacation 4wks this summer...we have CC debt I am still paying student loans, I graduated with my Master's 15yrs ago & only worked full-time 3yrs since. We have Direct TV, prime, netflix, hulu, apple TVs, Amazon Fire sticks but never watch TV really I often go over my data on my iphone because I let DD4 watch videos on it when we are out. We pay for meals & nice gifts for our families all the time even though we probably shouldn't (CC debt) My H's pay has gone up $2K a month this year & we aren't making any headway Paying for my DD1 to do club volleyball...but since that doesn't start until Nov, we are paying more so she can do another club for Sept-Nov Paying gobs in private music lessons for kids who don't practice We have a tenant that is paying around $300 under market value and I just don't care
I would be really embarrassed for anyone to know what I spend on beauty/maintenance. And the older I get, the higher the number gets. Last week, I was giving serious consideration to eyelash extensions (I still haven't ruled it out).
There is a part of me that wants to cut cable, but a bigger part wants to be able to watch RHofwhatever when it airs .
Also, we are going to move and get a 30 year mortgage. The thought is kind of bringing me down. We will pay it off early, I wish we could commit to the 15, but I don't think we can. Ugh.
Not maxing out 401ks is not being an MM failure. Be easier on yourselves!
We have cable/hulu/netflix/prime. We spend about $300 a week between Costco and Whole Foods. We will both not shy away from throwing money at certain problems.
I forgot to mark on my calendar when my year of satellite radio expired, and was charged like $250. I'm crazy busy and haven't called in yet to complain. Do you think they'd give me a pro-rated refund if I called in? I'm willing to go without entirely for the time being. Wah!
Is it Sirius? They always pro rate me and you should be able to get down on one of their super cheap intro packages, because for them something is better than nothing. Good luck!
Awesome, thanks! I need to give myself a work break and try it.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

You are my people. I will not apologize for eating well! MH is always trying to shame me out of buying organic because of cost. GTFO with that nonsense.

I'm a MM hot mess. It doesn't help that I'm married to someone who doesn't care that we have bills and needs everything he wants as soon as he sees it. Meanwhile, there's a huge earnings gap between the two of us and it makes me so bitter.
Lately I'm over trying to get us on the MM path to success. I need new pens!

This is why we get a bad rap - we don't/can't all max out our retirement. But every little bit does count!
ally , how is double paying your mortgage a MM fail? That's impressive to me.
I am thrilled to be able to do it - even if some months I would prefer to spend the money on more frivolous things. I listed it because when I read advice to others on the board with what to do with extra money/budget, I feel like the consensus is to not pay off a mortgage early and to do other things with the money.

I am new to MM. There are a lot of ways in which I am not MM but I have thought that I will absorb some of this thinking by osmosis. I will then be more career-oriented and more strategic with financial planning.
I just wish that I hadn't been so impacted by the Recession. I wish that my early professional years had been in a better economic climate.

We bought my car new and did a 5 year loan. It will be paid off a few months earlier than that but basically we've had a high car payment for 5 years. I also pay for satellite radio.
We don't save as much as recommended for retirement. I do have a good pension but DH doesn't.
We don't really budget for our variable costs. I only have a vague idea of how much we spend on things like groceries, eating out and gas.
Update: I put our Hulu subscription on hold for 10 weeks. Which means I won't be billed again until December because I am already paid for the next month.
In related news, The Mindy Project returns 10/4, so I might go back sooner than than I had planned.

LOL where to start...
We just put more money into Fiance's business that we had to pull from savings. It's an investment but it's freaking hard to put money into it and not see returns because it's growing and requires reinvestment of the profits. So basically no cash flow out for living expenses or savings and putting money in, plus we may need to take out an equipment loan soon - gulp!
Efund is still less than it should be (roughly 2 months)
Wedding spending
Still have credit card debt - but down to one card each with any balance not fully paid off monthly and have paid down significantly
Not paying in advance at all on my student loans
The timeshare courtesy of my exH - it was so much easier to sign than deal with his wrath later
Not maxing my retirement - saving 13%+ myself and employer match/profit sharing for another 10%
Nothing for Fiance's retirement yet - we live off my income so that should cover us in retirement if I stay on track and I guess we could count on selling his business or it's assets but yeah no retirement for him yet
There's more like the still underwater house, over withholding taxes and getting a big refund, eating out too much, but I can't keep going... It's freaking sad writing this even when I know I've made huge progress in the past few years, because there is still so far to go.
We haven't canceled cable and we don't even watch it. Comcast sucks and will only credit us $5 a month if we cancel it, so we keep it for when I'm in the mood to watch basketball or football. I hate Comcast.
Our budget is TIGHT right now because we bought a house at the top of our range. 2 cars are paid off in the next 2-6 months (5 year loans... yeah...) and daycare costs will be cut in half in 10 months when DS1 starts kindergarten (no aftercare costs since I WAH and DH is home summers).

We're refinancing and thought our payment would go down by $140/mo. Well, turns out that our escrow had miscalculated our taxes and we didn't catch it until now. So our taxes really are $140ish/mo more than what we thought so our payment will actually be the same. Whomp, whomp.
I guess from MM standards the fact that we buy luxury cars instead of basic cars is a fail.

I just took out a 30 year mortgage at 37. However, we intend on paying it off early. I didn't want to commit to a 15 year one.
I don't really budget my money. I have a set amount I give myself each pay period but sometimes I go over.
I'm also going to be taking out a loan to do a massive renovation on our kitchen. BF wants to wait 18 months so we can save up and pay for 2/3s of it by cash. I may do 1/2 cash and 1/2 loan. I flame myself for that because after my bills and spending money I have about 1k leftover each month so I could easily save up. I'm just impatient and really want my kitchen done sooner rather than later.
- we let our lifestyle grow with raises - specifically food, shopping, and housing. - we probably spend more on our dogs monthly than many people spend on their children
