It is really cool!
I got mine done a few years ago at Ancestry. I am adopted so I had never known what my ethnicity was.
I am: 33% Ireland 32% Europe West 22% Great Britain 6% Scandinavia 3% Iberian Peninsula 3% Eastern Europe
It's been really fun. Since I did it early, though, they have "refined" my results a few times. At one point they said I was something like 30% Scandinavian. Now it's just 6.
That is very cool. Were you surprised at all? I thought it would only show regions such as Eastern European, etc. Now that I know it will show more specific info I might try it.
40% Ireland 30% Scandinavia 11% Europe West 8% Iberian Peninsula 6% Great Britain 2% Europe East less than 1% Italy/Greece less than 1% Finland/NW Russia less than 1% West Asia (Caucasus)
SO COOL!
But how much Neanterthal are you? I'm .8% according to 23&Me. Maybe it's .08%. That's my favorite part. It explains ... so much. LOL.

We bought 23&me for my dad on his 60th. The results were awesome and he even connected with 2 distant cousins who had finished most of the family tree on his paternal grandfather's side we're mostly Scot/Irish and we're linked to one of the guys that kidnapped St. Patrick and brought him to Ireland. DH and I will probably order kits for ourselves this year.
I'm here--I see a lot of political borders, but very little that would be genetically distinctive. So, what's the difference, genetically, between "Europe West" and "Europe East"? Between "Great Britain" and "Europe West"? This doesn't even make sense.

That is so cool! So, it can link you to people that you are related to through your DNA? I'm confused!

The results come with explanation of the differences/borders of the areas, as well as the genetic make up of the "natives" from the area. There's a lot of interesting information included.

My father did this with Ancestry! He is what we thought he was. I don't have the breakdown right in front of me. My mom swears she is 100% Italian. I'd love to see what else is in there.

23&me runs your sample against their database and will let you know if it matches (no matter how loosely) someone else they've tested.
My mil did the ancestry one, but I'd like her to do 23 and me. We found out a few years ago that gmil was adopted within the family. Her maternal hertiage is known, but we have no idea who her father was. I was thinking if mil did 23 and me, we may be able to find out something about her biological grandfather. However, who knows what can of worms that would open.

Those groups are fairly distinctive genetically. Keep in mind that until the mid 1800s most people lived and died within 50 miles or less of one place. That means a great deal of genetics are similar for those from certain areas so yes you have clusters of DNA that is distinctive.
Yup! My sister did the test too and her results varied slightly as far as percentages.
Iberian Peninsula 33% Native American 16% (South America in my case) Italy/Greece 15% Ireland 11% (this surprised me) Africa 10% Europe West 6% Great Britain 4% Scandinavia 2% Europe East 1% Finland/Northwest Russia <1% Middle East <1%
ETA: I expected all but the Ireland, Italy/Greece (although this overlaps with Iberian Peninsula), and Scandinavia. The Finland/Russia and Middle East one was a surprise as well.
My aunt (who is 80) is the historian of the family. She's found a lot of photos and information on my great-great grandparents, and back even farther than that. But she hasn't done the DNA thing. I'm going to encourage her to look into this.

One thing that did surprise me was there's no Native American in me. According to my dad, who was able to meet a couple of his birth siblings, there was some NA on his side.
