We thought we would finally get to take DD home today but the final requirement is that she needs to pee first. She just had her epidural and catheter removed earlier. She still hasn't peed and it's been 6 hours. She had hip surgery so she's really swollen in the genital region and it's painful for her to even mess with the diaper. She's now in pain and she just spit out half her pain meds out of anger. The nurse may have to cath her again while she's swollen and in pain if she hasn't peed within 45 minutes. She's already inconsolable. I'm just about to completely lose it here. :-(
After labor I couldn't pee. The nurse put this minty liquid in the toilet and I was instantly about to pee. Is that available at your hospital? I don't know if it would work on a child, but it may be worth asking.
When I used to get stage fright doing random drug tests, someone told me to blow on my hands. For some reason, that seems to work? Maybe if you can cup her hands and blow on them a little bit that might help her get started? I know it sounds totally ridiculous...

I could be wrong but it's probably the blowing that helps you pee, not having your hands blown on. It's harder to keep the urethra (or the muscles there... whatever, I'm tired) tight when you're blowing out.
I'm not sure how old your baby is (ie, if she's old enough to rationalize this), but I was so stressed out after having my cath removed that the only way I could pee was if everyone left the room and I didn't think about it. Thinking about the fact that they were going to have to re-cath me if I couldn't go made everything worse. For me, the bigger a deal people made of it, the more difficult it became for me to go.

I hope she pees after the reload. Poor thing! Just know they need her to for a reason and I know you guys are so ready to get home but this will make sure all is right with her recovery. Pee, baby, pee!
I think it is really fairly common, even though it is of course a huge pain in the butt and traumatic for you both.
When Ds was having trouble peeing once, a warm bath, and peeing in the water helped, but I am guessing you can't do that because of the casts.
Glad to see you posting. I'd been following your posts and Daria's and came in, hoping for good updates.
I hope you're both home soon!
I am the 39%.
I don't have the concentration to actually read a read article about something political, lol. Our nurse today kicked out my in laws since they are the opposite of relaxing and sleep inducing, so I am getting some good interwebs time in
