I remember when Giffords was shot there was a lot of discussion of Sarah Palin because she put the targets on.. was it maps, or people's faces?
Are we hypocrites if we point fingers there but not here?
I had an argument on FB this morning about this. She posted about the recent violent imagery and blamed it for the shooting and went on to say that the right doesn't publicly accept vitriol like the left. I brought up the cross hairs and she dismissed it as "bad judgement" and political targeting instead of actual targeting.

Is he going to be mentally ill? A domestic terrorist?
I think the left has an obligation to examine its rhetoric, yes. As said upthread, extremism is dangerous regardless of political ideology.
And people pointing out that the congressman deserved it because he spoke at a white supremacist event.
::Record scratch::
If this is true, they might have a point.
Eta: The internet says he didn't really go fire up a white supremacist group, just an ordinary tax talk under murky details. So they do not have a point.
ETA again: This may not mean anything because I have said something disgusting to you, but I was envisioning full-blown hate speech at a rally, and my heart isn't big enough for such people.
He did not. He is an innocent victim, and I apologize for suggesting he was anything but that.
I accept your disgust with me and apologize to the board.

Is there a politician who was using violent rhetoric or just violent code? To be clear, Palin was not advocating violence, but her image was gun-related. Is there something comparable here?

Have I been living in a hole? What recent violent imagery has there been from the left?
I remember Trump promoting violence throughout his campaign, which was condemned by the left.
Are they talking about the Kathy whatsherface thing that was resoundingly condemned by all sides?

I'm not really aware of any, but I don't think our hands are entirely clean.

Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa said his officers are in good condition and have not suffered any life-threatening injuries.
Also, this article (source for the quote) has an aerial image with labels for positions of victims and the shooter as well as the damage done. It is jarring to see distances guns can hit.
CHILE. I was just thinking " Isn't she the one on ML who shows her ass so much she doesn't even bother wearing pants anymore?? Just strolls up with a thong on!"

Yes, Kathy Griffin and the Julie Caesar play, which according to her have been lauded by the left.

I'm not aware of recent violence promoted by the left as a whole or key leaders on the left, but I also wouldn't be surprised if right-wing media has a different narrative on the topic than the media I usually consume.

She does realize that that same Caesar play had Obama in the role as well? It is what they do. Kathy Griffin was/is gross and I haven't seen anyone I know defending her actions.

The vocal Right really latched on to the Kathy Griffin thing. I saw a lot of comments along the lines of:
OP: How is it okay for the [GOP, Trump Administration] to [enact problematic legislation, influence Russia investigation, etc]? Right troll: How is it okay for Kathy Griffin to encourage graphic violence against the government?!
So many times. I'm pretty sure that the extreme-Right media was talking as if that one thing was the entirety of the Democratic platform. I suspect they will now showcase this as point number two. A horrible prospect for everyone, and especially for the victims and their friends/family.

I hadn't heard about the Julius Ceasar thing, so I just looked it up. None of the articles I saw noted that they did the same with Obama, including the NYT.
They do make the point that if you think the play is calling for violence you don't understand the play.

I was mistaken. It was another theater company. But they did so in 2012 with Obama and Delta is a sponsor and did not pull funding from them.
She was the one that was talking about the name Saul and other bullshit. She then doubled down and came back the next day and blamed it all on sleeping pills.
