I'll be teaching a 2nd/3rd grade combo of GATE and advanced students this coming school year. Last year I taught 2nd grade. Prior to that I was a district TOSA and I taught 7th and 8th grade English and History for 7 years.
This fall will be my 3rd year full-time K-12 teaching (taught college and did a year PT). I'm certified in middle school all core subjects, and teach 5th grade right now in Columbus, OH.
This past year, I taught just reading and social studies, but this coming year I'll be teaching a self-contained room and adding on math and science.
I've never taught math and science before, and my kids' levels will be all over the map (we get a lot of refugee kids), so I'll definitely be looking for resources on differentiation.
This will be my 8th year as a school psychologist. Most of my experience is in elementary but since last year, my assigment has allowed me to work with students 3-21. My plan is to keep it that way as long as i stay in the field.

Hi!
I'm heading into my 3rd year as a school counselor and testing coordinator. I work at a large high school in Vegas. My first year, I was only over testing, last year I had testing and 9th grade. For the 17-18 school year, we're moving to a straight alpha breakdown, so I'll have all grades plus testing.

I'm starting my 14th year. I currently teach middle school math- prealgebra and Algebra 1. I have also taught middle school life science and 4th-5th grade (all subjects).
I'm going into my 6th year teaching. I taught 5th grade at a turn around charter in an urban district for 3 years. For the past 2 years I've been teaching 7/8 emotional support (reading. Math. Science and SS).
6th grade Social Studies & ELA here. I'll start my 19th year this fall. I teach in a K-6 building in an urban school district. I like my job and really like my coworkers & students; however, my bumbling principal makes life very difficult sometimes. Excited to add this board to my growing list of resources!
I'd like to check in here from time to time. I work in student services at a university but also teach 2 sections of an extended orientation course for first-year students (2 sections in the fall, 2 sections in the spring - the spring is a continuation of the fall course). I also coordinate this whole program - there are about 15-16 fall sections and 12-13 spring sections.
I just stepped into the coordinator role in January so I'm going into my first full academic year and am anxious to be able to provide my staff with teaching resources since none of us have a teaching education or background.
3rd grade teacher in California. 2017-2018 will be my 17th year of teaching. I recently passed the last CSET I needed to earn my BCLAD, so I am now authorized (once the paperwork and check clear with the CTC) to teach in Spanish.

Hello! I just finished my 8th year teaching (although I teach year round as I teach preschool). I started off in elementary but moved to preschool 6 years ago. I love the place I'm at because I not only teach 3-5 year olds, but I teach college students as well since we are part of the university. Summer is the best part of the year because we spend the majority of our time outdoors going on walks and being "nature scientists." We are a science inquiry program and some of my colleagues and myself have been exploring nature-based learning in the last couple of years.

Another quiet one joining the party! I'm finishing my third year as an assistant professor, and I teach mostly anatomy & physiology (but also intro bio for majors/non-majors, developmental biology, and histology). I'm switching universities in August and ridiculously excited by the undergraduate research opportunities I'll be able to offer at the new job.
Also, I did all my K12 education in a Cleveland suburb, which is pretty much the best place to be.

I'd love to join in over here. I'll be starting my 18th year teaching. I taught 10 years elementary general education and the last 7 as Special Education. As a Special Education teacher I have taught self contained and push-in. Currently I teach push in and serve 5th grade students during math. I teach in Florida.
I spent 2 years as a preschool SpEd para, then 2 years as a Head Start teacher asst. This past year I SAH with my DS. This coming school year I'll be subbing. My goal is to end up as a para in an elementary school.
I was a head start para before getting a classroom position :-)

This is great! And very timely for me.
I'm an adjunct professor at the local (major) university. I taught 1-2 courses/semester for ~3 years when they got funded for a tenure track position and I couldn't apply (only have a Masters and have another job). That was 2 years ago.
But- meeting with the department head on Wednesday. They proposed a new course to the university and it got approved and they are hoping I can come teach it starting this fall.
I teach in the field I work in during my day job- which is residential environments/design. I work full time for a builder/remodeler as the designer.

Hi! I will be starting my 19th year of teaching in September. I work in the Capital Region in New York. I am certified 7-12 in general science, Chemistry and Biology. I have taught: General Science, Regents Earth Science,Non-Regents Biology and Chemistry, Regents Living Environment and Regents Chemistry (this is what I currently teach.) I have taught in the same school for the whole 19 years. My school is small, but is in a city, and is a high needs school. I love my school, even though it can be challenging at times. I am the Senior Class and Student Government advisor. I love that this board exists!!!
Hi, everyone! I'll be in my 12th year teaching high school English next fall. I've taught Honors 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, AP English Lit, Dual Credit Composition, and Dual Credit Intro Novel/Short Story/Drama at various points throughout my career in both Texas and Maryland. I've also spent around half of my career as the content co-teacher for inclusion sections of both GTLD and on-level English classes at various levels.
Right now I'm in the middle of a MLIS program that will eventually take me from the classroom into a position as (hopefully) a high school librarian/media specialist. I'll miss being a teacher, but I'm really excited to refocus my work in the next few years.
Hi everyone! I have always wanted a teacher message board!!
This year will be my 11th year. I teach high school chemistry (honors and academic) which is predominately 10th and 11th graders at a very high pressure school. I have also taught physical science and earth science (just no!)
Will you ladies have me over here - I'm a college professor? No problem if not! My DH teaches third grade if that gives me any credibility?
Of course! Welcome! What subject do you teach?
Thanks! My background is in metabolism/bioenergetics. I teach exercise physiology, exercise prescription for special populations, research methods, and the good ol anatomy and physiology, biology, pathophysiology, etc.
We live about 25 miles outside of Philly.
ETA - I'm entering my 7th year, got tenured and promoted last year and will be teaching less since I'm taking over as department chair - but I'm still excited to learn from you all

lust2hart are you on the USC FYE listserve? They had some amazing resources when I started out.
I work at university also but will be on maternity leave in the fall so I'm not teaching this term. I've taught our Foundations course and various incarnations of college prep/study skills/critical thinking courses at the college level. I've also taught conflict resolution/mediation. My main position is conduct/student affairs.
I'm sure I'll mostly lurk but It's helpful to know what's going on at the K12 level particularly for juniors/seniors to help them as they transition to college life and expectations.

Great idea for a board! I taught middle school theatre and speech for 15 years. Next year will be my first year as a middle school librarian. I'm super nervous to be starting something new after so long in the same position.
I teach grades 4 and 5 in a fairly small k-7 school in a large city in Canada. I'm a generalist, though I don't teach music, and I teach other teachers' PE (this is an unofficial arrangement, though, as we tend to platoon informally at our school.) This is my 15th year teaching, just finishing my 7th at my current school.

Hi everyone! I just finished my tenth year teaching. I teach fifth grade math and science in a large public school in central MA. I am the general education teacher in a full inclusion classroom, so just under half of my students are special ed, and the rest are general ed.
Hi! I split my time between being department chair and director of faculty development at a mid-sized liberal arts college. I'm not in the classroom as much as I used to be, but I love helping other faculty members.
