I just watched the videos of her coming in. So unbelievable. I'd be delirious and she's out there thanking everyone, chatting, playing with the dog. What an amazing person.
Just the staying awake for 64 hours is something beyond my comprehension. And I'm really good at being sleep deprived! I'm not great at being emotionally stable after a solid 30someodd hours awake, but I'm AWAKE. (just ask my ragnar van-mates...) But 64+ WHILE SWIMMING?
This is truly awesome. She's an amazing athlete. I just sent this to all my tri-buddies. "When you think you're tired and your swim is long....just imagine, at least you get to stop TODAY."
wait, so no rests at all? you just swim for 64 hours ?!!!!! eating while floating but not holding anything?
I can't .. I don't understand!!!
It sounds like this might be a real record though if discounting the ones where people didn't follow the "rules"?
Correct. Also, marathon swimmers generally try to down their feeds in under a minute, so really however many times she stopped, it usually wasn't very long unless it was a "maintenance" stop - reapplying desitin or switching goggles or de-suiting or something like that. (Yes, a lot of marathon swimmers will ditch at least part of the swimsuit b/c chafing is a very real issue.) She would tread water or float while feeding.
Yes, this is a real record. The longest (both in time and distance) unassisted marathon swim in history.
