I knew those late ultra scan measurements are more likely to be right!
Congrats on your baby GIRL and welcome to the wonderful world of parenthood. Hold on to every minute of newborn deliciousness. They grow up so so fast. Sending you good thoughts for a healing and healthy post partum period!!
Warning to anyone who is pregnant: you might not want to read this.
So I went into the hospital at 6:30 am Sunday. We started drugs to induce labor at 8. Very little happened for 16 hours, when my water broke around midnight. But I was still only at a 2. I had multiple breakdowns that you could essentially call anxiety attacks on Sunday. I finally calmed down with some morphine dosed around 8pm Sunday but didn't really sleep. They started Pitocin after my water broke. I got an epidural around 8 or 9 am Monday, but it took HOURS to get actual pain relief. My legs were numb, but the contractions were still killer. We finally got those under control when I was about 4-5. I fell asleep and woke up at 9. Unfortunately, I stayed at 9, and baby refused to move down any further. We continued to have problems with the epidural wearing off, and I had tough contractions and excruciating low back pain. By midnight, they decided a c-section was best. I was exhausted and disappointed. I then proceeded to have a post partum hemorrhage. At one point, we were minutes away from a hysterectomy being necessary to save my life. But they were able to save my uterus. I finally got some sleep this morning, and I'll probably try to sleep more this afternoon although I have to get up and walk the halls. My incision is very sore. I'll be in the hospital probably until Saturday. I may see if mamaharpy can come help next week if we buy her a plane ticket.
It turns out my pelvis is narrow (which is so unfair since I have such a giant ass) and she is quite big. Minus the hemorrhage part, this is almost exactly how my mom's delivery of my brother went down almost 40 years ago. And my mom said her mom was told not to have a second baby or it would kill her. So I guess the harpy women aren't great at giving birth. I was, however, a great home for her. Every single nurse and doctor I saw would look at the monitor and say she was a super happy baby.
Despite all the stress and the scary surgery, she's doing great and I'm doing OK. Mostly just sore. My OB was just in and said all my numbers look good.
@angryharpy, I'm sorry to hear you had such a rough time. It seems like some things just can't be predicted before your body goes through labor (that is what happened to me - I have a narrow pelvis and apparently it also doesn't open up in labor or something like that - I guess some/most people's do). I hope your recovery goes smoothly.
And you're probably not really even thinking about a second baby right now, but I will say my scheduled c/s was a breeze with #2. I was told I was a terrible candidate for VBAC because of my pelvis issue, which was fine with me. I do wish there was a way to predict that before full blown labor because while c/s aren't ideal, 36-48 hours of labor activity ending with a c/s is even worse because even if it's not a difficult situation (like yours), you're still completely and totally exhausted and then trying to recover from surgery. Not to mention the benefits of being able to get up and around shortly after surgery if you don't have to have an epidural (I had an epidural first time, spinal second time - spinal 100x better).
eclaires, I did ask about a second baby. My OB is pretty adamant that a scheduled c-section would be the only way to go. But we'll cross that bridge later.

Angry harpy I'm so sorry to hear about how difficult a delivery it was! That's awful! Im glad to hear you and your baby girl are doing so well now! Rest up and enjoy her!
I had a very difficult 1st delivery as well, as did my sister. If you ever want to chat about it I'm happy to.
Ugh, I'm sorry. The hemorrhage sounds really scary. I'm glad they were able to save the uterus!! Get some rest and definitely get your mom up if you can.
Pitocin is a fucking asshole, I know it saves babies blablabla but it didn't do anything good for mine and sure made me suffer.
Congrats on your little girl and making it through her entrance in one piece! I agree that my second, planned c-section was a walk in the park after my traumatic first c-section (after stalled labor). Night and day. SO MUCH BETTER. Enjoy your rather biggish little one!
