Paris, hands down.
We are trying to get to Europe in the next year or two and Geneva is a bit more realistic so we will aim for Geneva. But I would kill to live in Paris.
I would say London by the pay for my profession is absolute crap. Like, I'd get paid the same as a fully qualified professional with experience as I did as a grad student in the US. And the pay in the US is shitty too! The U.K. Just takes it to the next level.

Dreaming, without taking any of the realities of moving & not having a visa or job in the new location into account, Halifax & Charlottetown are tops of my list. Adelaide is on my list as well, but the summers in Adelaide are so awful that even in my dreams I can't make that work unless it's a "winter in both hemispheres" dream.

Most likely somewhere in Europe, more specifically Edinburgh/Dublin, Amsterdam or Vienna. Course I've only vacationed in these cities so while I love them, I may hate living there :-P
(I've been in the desert for a long time, so really anywhere with some green, that enjoys alcohol, and understands sustainability/recycling/etc would be a nice change).

Not in the desert, but I've never lived anywhere where average summer weather was not 90F+ with 90%+ humidity. I would REALLY like to change that trend.
Anywhere in France. I'd also love Barcelona or Lisbon. I think pre-kid I would have been happy to live in Brazil again, but there are things about it (Rio anyway) that I'm not so keen on for DD.
The 5 year plan is to be living in Montreal. Once H gets his Canadian PR, I don't think I'll want to go through another visa process again for a long time.
Total practicalities aside, I'd love to try Barcelona or Florence. Can't work out how either of those would ever be an option but the idea of worrying about being hot is rather tempting. Also Barcelona is delightfully flat...
I've also been fascinated with the idea of living somewhere with snow, but seeing as I've never done that, I'm sure the novelty would wear off as quickly as the snow melts.
Wow I don't know! I am so fixated on where our industry operates and I never even day dream of other locales . I think I'd love to spend an extended amount of time in Cape Town although I know it is a beautiful country with a complicated history and I'd be naive to think living there is like the easy going day to day of a tourist. I always thought Australia seemed nice and as pp said it's an access point for traveling in that part of the world. Maybe Singapore, seems exciting but maybe too hectic.

Off the recycling, omg yes!
Yes! I was just outside the other evening and we were talking about when it would finally be cooling down outside. Seems to start later & later every year. Maybe by October 😰
The recycling is frustrating. We're fortunate to have recycling bins in our compound, but it's only paper, plastic, & aluminum - no glass. Thr problem is I'm almost positive Doha doesn't have recycling facilities so I'm not sure where it's going. But I guess it's a start....

Practicalities aside here as well (dream world yes yes)... Italy! Also, I would love to live in London. That would work in real life were it not that DH hates living in England.
Can I just say that I kind of hate where we are living right now (Colorado).
doctoranda , what does your DH hate about living in England?
I don't think it is anything in particular. Just like you can have this particular love for a place based on just a feeling he has a dislike for London. It may have something to do with the weather. He did like traveling there as a tourist.

I feel like London can be a difficult place to live long-term. I loved living there, but I have a lot of friends who came and went throughout the years. Most of them moved when they wanted to buy, or when they began having children. I guess in a way I ended up being one of those people, too.

The funny thing is that I find it easier to live in London versus DC or Boston. I do think the weather sucks a lot, though I like temperate weather - this summer was just too cold and wet for me, but I can live with it.
