Well I have now been obsessing over this since Saturday - and I have off today (la shana tova) - so after another solid 8-10 hours yesterday and today, I have found at least 3 more revolutionary Patriots in my lineage. It is my mother's side that was from South Carolina, but on my father's side they go back to RI and Massachusetts in the 1600 and 1700s. I traced one of line back to French Huegenots and also to the Scotch Irish.
I traced one of the lines back to Watertown and Salem in the 1630s - including some guy that was one of the accusers of Bridget Bishop in the witch trials in the 1690s. That kind of sucks.
I also found census records from my South Carolina branch that shows the slaves that they owned. That also kind of sucks. And one guy on that side did fight with the Confederate Calvary.
And yes, I fully admit that this all falls into the category of Stuff White People Like.
DH's dad has been obsessed with genealogy for the past 15 years. He's done all his research via actual books, marriage and birth records, etc. He lives in manhattan and spent a ton of time at the NY Genealogy Society (he was a member there) and the Church of Latter Day Saints (who apparently have an amazing records department) getting primary source material. Before ancestry.com got huge he was trying to get his own version of a site like that up and running.
For our wedding, FIL used his genealogy research to get us a membership in the Mayflower society. He spent his time tracing their lineage back to someone who came over on the Mayflower, and he kept going back from there. Apparently DH has 5 different ancestors who date back to the prophet Mohammed.

That is so cool! That is great that he was able to do that.
