It was a great day yesterday! I broke the elusive 7 hour barrier and walked away with a 42 minute PR! YEP!! I'm stoked! 6:59:00!
Swim: 35: and some change. This is not my best swim time, but looking at the swim times of everyone else it makes me think that it was a little longer than 1.2. Most top age group times were in the mid-thirties! The water was COOOOLD even with a wetsuit (about 60), I eventually warmed up but didn't get hot, which was good.
T1:Slow as usual, got everything on and ready to go. Helped the lady next to me take her wetsuit off as she was cramping. I had to sit down because I was so dizzy!
Bike: Felt really good. Started right away replacing calories which was a good choice. I used shot blocks and power bars. The shot blocks were great but when it came time to shove a bar in my mouth it was not tasty at all. But that was all I had so I force fed myself the best way I could. I actually passed people on the bike, especially going up hill. I've been doing a ton of hills over the summer and it really paid off! Overall bike time: 3:28:06! PRd by well over 30 minutes!
T2: slow as usual. My legs were shot, had to sit down again and had to pee like a you know what. My hubs met me at the port-a-potty and helped me get back into my one piece. I had trouble zipping up my bra, then l left and realized that my bib was back at the potty so I had to come back and get it! DOhhhh!
Run: started getting warm, lots of direct sun on the course. THere was no food on the run. ONly hammer electrolytes, gels and water. I noticed LOTS and LOTS of walkers so I didn't feel bad that I had to walk too! Again, my legs were pretty much done. But I ran soooo many 10, 11 and 12 milers over my training that I knew I could do it, it just might be really slow today and I was fine with that, especially knowing that I did really well on the bike (an event in the past that I don't do well at!) I have a crazy, scary story about a horse that I will share later! Finally finished! Saw the hubs, SS and our dog we are dogsitting at the end. DH said "You did so good! I think you are under 7 hours! Much faster than I thought you would be, I'm glad I didn't go anywhere or I would have missed you!"
Lessons learned from yesterday: I need to take salt with me, my fingers get sooo swollen and they start hurting because of all the salt loss. I need to work on my transitions this coming year, and I need to continue to work on running all year long. It's so hard for me. I guess I'm just not a natural runner!
Overall I had the best race of my life yesterday! I felt strong both mentally and physically most of the time I was out there, which is a huge difference from my last HIM. I can't wait to tackle the 140.6 next August!
