Not for thanksgiving or Christmas, but the recipe the family (really just gramma, and now me) is known for is a lemon (not pudding, not meringue) pie. I only recently found out it was from a Pillsbury bake off in the 60s that she clipped. I've made many friends with it.

Holiday-wise the only requirement is my mom's stuffing. We don't have consistent meals the rest of the holidays. But there are several family "secret" recipes. Maldasha, fleischkeukle, bierocks, meat dumplings, butterball soup, cheese buttons, etc.
Christmas cookies (cut-outs). It's a Hungarian recipe that's a variation of Queen Anne's cookies, rolled out thick and slathered in buttercream frosting. I'm always disappointed at other people's events when someone else says, oh, I'll bring Christmas cookies! It's not the same, people.
I'd love a recipe! My favorite cookie are cut out cookies.
French silk chocolate pie Moms cranberry relish- secret ingredient is Grand Marnier Cranberry nut bars Christmas morning Creamed eggs on toast after Easter So many more. We live to eat and I come from a long line of good cooks
We always made stuffing balls that we place in the pan around the turkey not in it but not in a separate dish. It is like the best of both worlds—juicy from the turkey but with crunchy bits.
Also, every Thanksgiving and Christmas has 'Cranberry Thing' that is a combination of canned cranberry sauce, mayo, dream whip, and nuts. It's sweet and sour and creamy. I love it! It's about 50/50 with the family. About half eat it and half don't. It's not a holiday without it though.
It's actually kind of disgusting. It's some pistachio jello concoction that has cottage cheese and pineapple it it. My grandma always makes it and we always give her crap about it and now it's basically a family joke. No holiday would ever be the same without it. And it doesn't go to waste - there are a few family members that actually enjoy it and eat it.
We make “green fluff” - which sounds like a better version of what you described . Pistachio jello mix, cool whip, canned pineapple, walnuts and marshmallows.
On my mom's side of the family, it's boob jello. My wonderful yet ditzy aunt once brought a molded jello that was a soft pink. She topped it with a touch of whipped cream and a cherry. It looked just like a naked breast, and we've insisted she bring it for every holiday now. For my immediate family it's mom's home made honey wheat dinner rolls. I always make my apple/onion/sage/bacon stuffing (can be vegan without bacon.) I can't do without it and DH's family always requests it.

My grandma now makes this version too. We call it "Good Greenie." Ha! It really is much better thank the cottage cheese version.
Cranberry salad, but it's not like normal cranberry salad. My grandmother's recipe.
I blend fresh cranberries and sugar in a blender the night before, and let that sit overnight. The next day, I whip up some heavy whipping cream, and fold that into the cranberries with some mini marshmallows and chopped pecans.
My MIL and her sister make this "dressin" in a giant crock pot and it is so good.
Every Christmas we have my great-great grandmother's raspberry pudding. It's basically jam, flour, egg, and butter in a double boiler. It sounds gross but it is heavenly.

IME what you have is called Watergate Salad and usually has pecans not walnuts.
miso does your mom have a recipe for mapo tofu or does she wing it? It's h's favorite thing, and I know I don't come close despite following purportedly authentic recipes.

She can make like a thousand dishes and has exactly zero recipes.

This is also my mom, who was the best cook in our circle of family friends. I wish I paid more attention and/or got her to write them down before her dementia set in. She rarely, if ever, had a miss in the kitchen whether it was Indian or non-Indian food.
As far as traditional holiday dishes, our family's sausage stuffing is the most- requested item. Honorable mention goes to our turkey basting mixture of butter and brandy. Luckily I mastered both. For traditional Indian food, my mom's top 3 greatest hits were chicken curry, fish fry, and moru (spiced yogurt accompaniment). My dad didn't cook often, but beef curry was his secret weapon.

I kind of expected that. Maybe I'll experiment with various starters from 99 ranch and build from there. I'm lucky he won't complain regardless
Authentic paella. It's a lot of prep but it's soooo good. And it's perfect for guests b/c you can get it ready, put it in the oven before your guests arrive and then let it rest. All you need is a salad and your meal is complete.
My aunt used to make some sort of green jello thing (the green was opaque) for TG and it was the only thing her youngest daughter would eat. I think it had mandarin oranges and I have no idea WTF else. My cousin was literally the only one who would eat it.
Oh, and my deviled eggs. They are delicious. I made some last week for my H and I and they were gone in 2 days. And I ate most of them. Lol.
For us, it's my spicy vinegar green beans -at least 2lbs of fresh green beans -onion -at least 1.5 of bacon (I like applewood or pepper) -butter -Tony's seasoning -white vinegar -chicken broth
Cook the bacon, remove strips when fully cooked, cook the onions in the bacon drippings. Season the onions with some Tony's. Add the green beans and chicken broth and simmer. Add some more Tony's. Throw half a stick of butter in and 1-2 tbs on vinegar. Continue to simmer. Add more Tony's, butter, or vinegar to taste. The longer it simmers the better it is.
I had never heard of Tony’s seasoning, this sound SO good. Move over green bean casserole!
Tony's is more than likely Tony Chachere's Cajun seasoning!
I can't wait to try this! I love fresh green beans!

followyourarrow, sure! It's saved as a pdf. Can you PM me your email address? It won't attach here. And it is LONG. But it's actually pretty easy. It's just a very thorough recipe!

This is my bff's grandma. Eating at her place was the BEST. Chinese New Year, birthday celebrations, random "I made this, come over and eat," etc. We once asked her to write down a recipe for us, lol. The closest we ever got was helping in the kitchen and trying to write it down for ourselves as she went.
