I'm sorry if I missed a post on this, my newborn has been keeping me busy today, but a friend shared this on Facebook earlier. We need to do what we can to save net neutrality, and they aren't making it easy to get through to the FCC (big surprise). John Oliver has helped with that by giving us an easy link.
We have **less than 24 hours** to fight the FCC & the repeal of #NetNeutrality. This is SUPER important and takes 2 seconds. Here's how you can help in one minute or less. 1. Go to gofccyourself.com (John Oliver's shortcut to the hard-to-find FCC comment page) 2. Next to the 17-108 link (Restoring Internet Freedom), click on "express" 3. Enter your name & info and in the Brief Comments section write, "I strongly support net neutrality backed by Title 2 oversight of ISPs." 4. Click Continue to Review Screen to check your info. (Your filing has not been registered yet!) 5. Click SUBMIT to complete! - Make sure you hit submit!
Again, I'm sorry if I missed this in another post. I just wanted to get it out there.
At this point trying to file a comment on the FCC website is too late. Ajit Pai has been ignoring that data entirely, it's been corrupted by Russian bots, and even with the irregularities they aren't investigating the interference.
Call your senators and house rep instead, but primarily your senators (and especially if you have a GOP senator). They are the ones currently putting the pressure on Pai and the FCC, and they are the ones who would be able to step in and fix this mess after the fact if the vote isn't postponed or when it passes.
AG Schneiderman's office identified 2 million comments during the FCC's #NetNeutrality comment period that were submitted using fake identities.
They corrupted the process & hijacked the debate.
This is outrageous.
Did it corrupt the process if the FCC didn’t pay attention to the comments regardless of whether they were real or fake? Because that is pretty much the case.
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”

In WA, our governor and AG have been working on ways to protect against this on a local level. Hopefully other states can follow suit. Bob Ferguson (AG) also hints that he's considering litigation with some other states.

This is one of those things though, like food safety that is so ineffective at a state or local level. This needs to be something with oversight at the federal level, and I think even many conservatives/small government types see that.

Agreed, but like with climate change, a coalition of states working together can still have an impact while we count down to taking back the House and Senate.
I missed Clyburns comments in the live feed. I'm glad there was a least two sane ethical people in that room. Also fuck Pai and his smarmy fucking joke at the end. Fuck him.

Just remember, that this fight isn't over yet, but it is going to be a long battle. Net neutrality regulations have been an issue since around 2005, except even in Bush's admin they weren't openly hostile to consumers, and the FCC chairman wasn't hanging out with Pizza Gate nutters like smug, condescending asshole and backpfeifengesicht Ajit Pai.
The rollback of these rules doesn't happen tomorrow, and there are a bunch of consumer advocacy groups, as well as state AG who are going to fight this in court, and congress can still step in. The is an insanely unpopular move with everyone except the big ISPs (even among republicans), and we need to keep reminding the government of that.
So CALL YOUR REPS AND SENATORS! Demand that congress steps in and pressure them to take action. (Washingtonians - Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell are leading this charge in the senate, go WA state!)
WHY?!? This is in No Way going to help any single citizen who you’re supposed to be representing, you AssWipes 😡
Go ISP lobbyists/ donations to Line Those Pockets, though- good day for you 🤦🏻♀️
I really don’t understand the logic here like at all.
Certainly- I very well may have misspoken. I just don’t see how this is possibly helping citizens, who they’re supposed to be representing. The only argument I’ve heard defending the decision to abolish net neutrality is “more choices for the consumer...” which has, in turn, generally been proven false by nonpartisan research firms. So the only other reason for this move, besides ruining another Obama accomplishment, is to satisfy ISP donors, right? Hence my aforementioned mumbling in disgust 😌
