NJ here. If we lose power, we’ll likely ride out the worst of the storm and then head a mile or so away to my inlaws. They have a generator. We’re only expecting three inches of snow but I’m charging all of our electronics tonight just in case.

Ugh, I haven't seen a weather forecast since this morning, and I know it's changed since then. We're in downtown Philly, so I don't know how likely it is that we'll lose power. Both my parents and my brother are local, but my parents are much more likely to lose power than us, and my dogs don't get along with my brother's dogs. I know the city will be setting up warming stations, so we'd probably go there (if they're pet friendly).
I'm in northern RI. Work is cancelled & daycare is closed for tomorrow. Thankfully DH is off too. He always seems to be at the station when there is a storm and shovelling when you're alone with two kids is... Challenging.
We've been in our house for 8 years and haven't lost power for any amount of time, so hoping our luck continues. We have a gas stove, so we can cook easily, but it would get pretty cold in the house very quickly.
We were without power for several days post-Sandy. We had our fireplace going, lots of layers on and under tons of blankets yet the temps outside weren't even horrendous. But damn I can remember being so cold!
I'm much more worried about losing power tomorrow with the very bad winds and temps in the high teens. Ugh.
Good luck everyone - stay safe!
ETA: Where is everyone located? NJ here. Expecting bad wind and last I checked only 3" of snow.
We are coastal RI and now it’s up to 14” now. Meh.
If it makes you feel a little better, my brother is a power lineman out of Ohio and he’s on his way to RI now. It seems like they have the crews coming in, hopefully you won’t need them!
We lost power during an ice storm last March and spending a day stuck inside with a two year old and no TV is not an experience I’d like to repeat. We ended up in a hotel. It’s much colder now, though.

We have a generator now, but have used a Mr. Heater propane room heater in the past. We tarped the rooms to section them off and went room to room with it, trying not to fall asleep. Couldn't let the pipes freeze. We had baseboard hot water heat at that time.
I do turn the heat up a few degrees so I have a bit more time before it gets cold as well when storms are here.
Our wastewater involves an electric pump to pump it uphill to the city sewer system, and my son has bathroom needs and is very particular about only using the bathroom at home. So that's usually our main problem.
Also showering, but I sometimes use the downstairs shower, plug up the tub and then scoop the water outside with a bucket.
We're all home today. Daycare is open, but we are both WFH and do not feel like driving the 40 minutes round trip just to have it get worse in an hour or two and have to do it again.
It's going to be a long day. BB already had a meltdown because I wouldn't pick her up and let her sit in my lap while I work. But it's best day ever for her since she's a) home and b) lounging on the couch and able to watch TV (we do not let her watch TV except for a few minutes at night).
raangoli, I'm right there with you. We're also all home. Daycare is closed and DH is off (teacher), but I'm working from home. DS, who has been an absolutely delight lately, chose today to be a total whiner. I kind of wish he had interest in TV on days like this!
I have an important call at 11am. Here's hoping he keeps the whining to a minimum for at least a half hour.

We’re looking at 15” where I am. I went to the dollar store and loaded up on crafts to entertain L and I’m thinking of trying to get her to sit for a movie - maybe Moana or Frozen? What’s good to hold the interest of a 2yr8mo old? She’s very particular about TV and only ever wants to watch Peppa Pig or Mutt n Stuff.
My daycare took mercy and offered to watch DD for a bit even though schools are closed. DS's school opened late (8:30). I'm REVELING in this time (though teleworking....)
starburst604 , We let DD watch part of the Minions movie and she loves it! She calls them bananas and thinks they are so funny. We have it saved on the DVR and I plan to break it out if needed.
This blows. We're in the 12-15 inch range. H and I are both working from home and daycare is closed. Snow days used to be fun, but man they suck with DD home and stuck inside. She is also being a super whiny, clingy PITA. I'm sick of it already. I need to work today and I doubt I will be able to get much done. I anticipate a lot of TV. I'm just crossing everything that we don't lose power.
I have never lost power in this house because our neighborhood is newer & has under ground power, but I am planning on booking at the nearby Residence Inn if we do loose power. Right now we have chili in the crock pot & are hunkered down nice & cozy. H insisted on going in to work today but is leaving at 11am.

Ugh same. My kids are driving me up the wall, H has a man cold and I'm trying to work. And I didn't even get to run to Dunkin this morning before the snow started. WAH.

Geez, stay safe everyone. We're in NY, but near the western edge of the storm, and man it's bad here so I can't imagine what some of you are experiencing. The wind is crazy!
DH and I are both working from home because the weather is even worse where our office is, and DD's daycare opened today but is closing at 1, so we'll have to figure out how to get her, entertain her, and keep her quiet enough so we can work.
We're in Ontario, so not exactly in the path of the "monster storm", but we are absolutely getting pummeled with snow, on top of a huge amount already. DS and I are still off on break, and I'd like to get out and shovel when it hopefully tapers off a bit this afternoon, but it's supposed to feel like -23C out (I guess that's about -10F?), so I'd have to get it done really quickly and get back inside.
I just tried to call my parents in Florida to check in with them and their phone is acting weird; it doesn't ring at all, it's just dead air for half a minute or so, then goes straight to voicemail. They're on the gulf coast, which I didn't think was affected by the power outages, but now I'm starting to wonder...

We lose power in a strong wind (had no power for four days after Sandy) so we sent the kids to my MIL's house. She rarely loses power, and she's in a condo complex that has backup generators anyway. My H is a cop so he is in work and if he has to stay late, the kids will stay at MIL's for the night. We have a generator and a wood stove, so I can keep myself warm if need be. Plus, I've got lots of wine LOL.
scm1011,13 months ago I totally planned to follow the AAP rec of no TV before 2 and now I am like "Why will my kid not watch TV?!?!" We've tried 3 times and he will watch for 2 minutes and then wants nothing to do with it.
I'm in DC so I am shocked that many of our schools are closed. Daycare had a delay and I have a 70 minute commute so I chose to WFH. There is no point in going in if I'll be late. I am so glad daycare didn't close completely. After the 3 day weekend I was dreading the idea of another day home...parent of the year here.

noodleoo I saw Minions as I was scrolling options and wondered if it appealed to her age group - good to know! Maybe we’ll give that one a try. They showed Polar Express to the kids at daycare on the last school day before Christmas and she was running circles around the room while the other kids sat and watched lol. I thought that’s kind of a lame choice for toddlers anyway.

Haha same. For the first 6 months I'd panic if he as much as glanced at the TV. Now I'm like "LOOK! Sesame Street! How fun!" and he has zero interest lol.

LOL, yes! Letting her watch TV was game changing. And also necessary when she got older. I started with a little Sesame Street at like 18 months because it was the only way she would sit still so I could cut her nails. Now we let her have 30 mins a day just to get some quiet time (shower or make dinner). Except when I work from home and then she has all the TV all day long because it is the only way I can work!
We're supposed to drive up to the Ronald McDonald House this afternoon in advance of an early morning appointment at the children's hospital tomorrow. Looks like we will stay put today and hit the road early tomorrow.
Our lights have been flickering, but we don't usually lose power.
We can see Route 1 through our trees and it is both completely white, and dead. Our neighborhood has yet to see a plow.

We had a snow day today, but hopefully it will be back to work tomorrow. For every snow day we have, we get an extra day tacked onto the end of the school year.

How is everyone doing? A ton of snow here so far and windy but not crazy. Power is hanging in there and it’s been a relatively smooth day with DD. We watched Minions after her nap and it held her attention for around 45 minutes so I’m calling it a win! Making dinner now and finally having some wine.
We've seemingly gotten a lot more snow than they forecasted. I just shoveled, and I'd estimate we're at 18" and its still coming down. City schools are closed again tomorrow, but we just got an email saying daycare is open. HALLELUJAH!!

We just got an email that daycare has a 2 hour delay tomorrow. I can work with that, but worry it’s the precursor to them closing altogether. I’m FB friends with a couple of her former teachers and they are all hoping there is no work tomorrow haha. I’m like SHUT YOUR MOUTHS!!
We got about 6 inches and the wind is picking up again. I’m glad we didn’t lose power but I did get an email that there have been water main breaks in the area bc of the cold. Ugh. I’m ready for winter to be over.
We got about a foot, although it's drifting horribly so much of our driveway is 18" deep. So far maintained power, knock on wood. We have wood stoves to heat and cook as needed so it's more of an inconvenience than a major problem if we lose power.
Major issue today is that two of my kids have the flu. Trying to keep the baby away from them, take care of them, work from home, clear snow, and recover from bronchitis myself has made today really fucking miserable. But it's almost bedtime, thank god.
