iPhone adapter for charging & headphones at the same time

Does anyone have an iPhone adapter that allows you to charge your phone and used wired headphones at the same time and that is actually supported and works? 

I've been browsing Amazon, but all the ones with 5 stars seem to be flooded with fake reviews.  The ones I'm finding are 1 star after 1 star saying they were duped and it doesn't work - either doesn't charge, doesn't play back, or both.

I'm looking at this for an upcoming trip, so I was hoping I could find something small and easy that I can use on planes and a train (i.e. NOT a wireless charging mat).  I suppose alternately, any suggestions for awesome, affordable wireless headphones?  Pretty much all headphones make my ears hurt, so I'm open to anything that's good for travel, and not ridiculously expensive.

Eta: oh wait I’m guessing this is for a newer model phone and the wireless headphones use the charging port?

Yeah, I have an iPhone 7 plus with the lightening port, and no headphone jack.  

I'm going to be on a plane for 14 hours, and I need to be able to listen to my meditation app so I don't go crazy, but I also need to be able to keep my phone charged.

I have wired headphones.

That's why I was saying as an alternative, maybe I could get wireless ones.  But that would be a more expensive solution than an adapter.

Have you tried a bluetooth converter for your wired headphones? Those are pretty cheap! Pay attention to battery life/battery style on those, but, you could even grab a couple for the price of that adapter. They're not the ideal solution for QUALITY sound, but, they should work to free your lightning jack for charging. GL!

I didn't even know this was a thing, so no I hadn't considered that at all. LOL!

As long as it doesn't sound tinny, buzzy, or like I'm trying to listen to something underwater I'm probably OK.  Most of what I plan to listen to will be things like nature sounds (think rainfall or streams) combined with instrumental music to help me sleep.  Possibly an audiobook or podcast.  I'm not looking to recreate anything amazing.

I had a splitter that I used with the headphone adaptor from Apple. No issues with it. I recently picked up some skull candy wireless Bluetooth earbuds and they don’t bother my ears any more than any other earbuds. I think they were maybe $30ish?

I went straight to the Apple store and got mine. It works great and hasn’t broken yet. All the ones on amazon were terrible.

I think that Belkin one is the one my coworker has that I borrowed once. Pretty decent. I was listening to a podcast, so I can't say the quality for music and such is all that great. But it did the trick when I needed to charge.

Sorry if you've already considered this, but keep in mind that Bluetooth doesn't work in airplane mode. Though Bluetooth headphones seem like a good option, they might not actually solve the problem. I've also been looking for something like this and have been surprised by how few options are out there.

Really? I can make it work on a few of my devices (iPad mini, iPhone 6 and 6S). Once you turn airplane mode on, you have to re-enable Bluetooth. Is the 7 different?

No, it does. You just re-enable if it’s off. I have an 8 an dit works fine. I use my AirPods on the airplane.

Bluetooth works in airplane mode if you... toggle it back on. Just like you can toggle on Wifi to connect to a plane's network. Any iphone young enough to have the "no headphone jack" issue has a configurable airplane mode.

I ended up getting the Belkin adapter. Even though it was more expensive, from the comments on Amazon it seems like they are good about replacing it if it stops working, even outside of Amazon's return window.

I got it Friday (woot same day shipping!!) and last night I let my phone run down. I'm currently using it to charge my phone while listening to my meditation app, browsing the internet, and using other apps.

It's clunky and the connection between the adapter and is very stiff. I strongly suspect that when it goes bad it's because the wires have no flex and they break or come loose.

But so far so good! The sound is what I would expect, and my phone is charging.

I'm glad they worked it out with the newer phones. I just recently got my 8S and haven't travelled with it yet. Sorry for the misinformation, but now I'm going to move Bluetooth headphones up on my wish list!SaveSave
