True. But Montgomery county is losing theirs next year too. Thanks Hogan!
I hate that in Maryland Easter Monday all the schools are closed (it's mandated by state law, apparently). It makes for difficult childcare since that's never a closed day for work. Good Friday isn't either, but I can handle (and understand why--even the stock market is closed) the one day. The second makes no sense to me and is a PITA.
Growing up in NJ spring break was always the week after Easter (and Good Friday). We never got Easter Monday so this was new to me when moving to MD.
I don't understand. If spring break was the week after easter, wouldn't that encompass Easter Monday?
Ours ends today, woo hoo! It was all last week through today.
But our school year runs Aug 16-May 24. We have a shitton of 3-4 day weekends especially in Oct and Feb but no fall break or other weeklong breaks besides Christmas and spring breaks. After today we only have one more day off til the end of the school year, praise God!

Sorry---my post made no sense. LOL My complaint is more that in MD because it's a state mandated closure even my daycare needs to close that day (because it's located in a public school space). In NJ it's not state mandated so it offers more flexibility. I do think we had some years where spring break was the week before Easter, actually.
North of Seattle we start April 2. There is usually a week between Spring Break and Easter (so break for a week then school for a week then Easter weekend) but this year they've moved it to the week following for some reason.
icedcoffee, that makes sense. Our daycare is open that day so I'm excited even though I need to take off for my kindergartener. I love when daycare is open lol.

It's seriously like winning the lottery! Thankfully Good Friday and Holy Monday are the only days each year our daycare closes that I have to work, but it's still a pain in the butt to find care for those 2 days.
Arizona here. My oldest niece is in college and her spring break was last week (3/12). The other niece and nephews are in middle/high school and their spring break is this week (3/19).
They go to public school. The parochial schools spring break will be next week, ending with Easter.

Ours changes every year. This year it is the first week of April. Next year it is the third week of April. It is not standard across the state. Usually the BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services in NY) a school district is part of all have the same vacation week because they share some services. It usually has Easter at the beginning or end of it.
I’m in Carroll county and we never get more than the 2 days. Several of my in-laws work in MCPS and they said they lose the week break next year.
I agree that this decision is a bad one. Especially since the idea was to extend the summer travel season for Ocean City. That doesn’t work when the high schools still start sports the first week of August!
The whole decision was so incredibly stupid and now looking at the calendar it really sucks for families who may want a family vacation. There's only really 2 options now--Christmas week or the summer. I think kids are going to get burnt out in the second half of the year.
They will be fine - promise! I'm in PA and no one in this area gets a whole week off. The only week they get is Christmas to New Years. They have a random day in April off that they now have to go to school to make up for a snow day. It's a long stretch, but not overly long. And I do enjoy them being out before memorial day.
Carroll County MD. This year we don't have a spring break. Kids get the Friday before and the Monday after Easter weekend off this year, that's it. B is in kindy, so I'm not sure if that's better or worse than a whole week off. I know lots of people around here use that week to travel, normally, so I have a feeling it probably screwed up lots of family trips. It used to be a whole week off before or after Easter.
