I have a 4 I got in June 2011. I don't have any desire to get a 5. It doesn't seem to have a new function I "need.". I'll wait until this one dies then I'll get whatever iPhone is out at the time.

We are upgrading because we are out of contract and you can sell a old iphone 4 for over $200 on ebay so upgrading isn't costing us anything (other than locking into a new contract). The only issue for us is deciding whether we should leave AT&T and go with Verizon or stay with AT&T and our unlimited data plan.
I got my 4 in August 2011. I'm not eligible for an upgrade until March 2013. I think I may wait until next fall and see what new iPhone is out then. Although I'm not sure what else they could change. It definitely won't be a hardware change. I'm happy to get the updated software since my phone works just fine. And honestly I'm not in a super hurry to upgrade just for Siri.
What is tempting me is the better camera. I like to take pictures. But I don't know much about the improved camera. And I like the idea of 4G and better battery life. On Verizon, the iPhone 5 will work abroad, right? Mine doesn't right now...
I got the 4 in January 2011 and I'm eligible for an upgrade. I decided to preorder, I liked the idea of the faster processor, the faster camera, the slightly larger yet lighter phone itself and the fact that it can do 4g/LTE. I'm debating whether I want to sell my 4 or keep it around as an "emergency" phone/ipod. I checked prices on Gazelle and my offer for the ATT 4G was $140.

We aren't currently planning to upgrade. But our final decision will wait until after the OS update, which I think is tomorrow. If it slows our phones waaay down or has crappy functionality, we may consider it.

My phone is through my firm. Somehow an inquiry regarding if I was eligible/how upgrading works resulted in a email stating that the 5 had been ordered for me. I was in a panic since I was thinking it wasnt worth paying for, but I've been told I don't have to pay anything. So yay for me?
Although I am annoyed that my speaker dock at work will no longer work :-(

I don't qualify for an upgrade for 11 more months. I have a 4s and am very happy with it and don't mind at all that I have to keep it for 11 months. By then I'm guessing some sort of 5s will be out and I'll get that.

I can't upgrade until June 2013 so no iPhone5 for me. I got the 4s last November. They'll probably have the 5s(or something) next fall with the rate they are making the new phones.
ETA: I didn't really read the questiong right. I think that if I had the 4 I would upgrade to the 4. My H's father has the 4 and the picture quality sucks compared to mine. Suri is fun too
The 4 won't be able to use some of the software updates that are being introduced, so that is something else to consider. We are upgrading our 2 year old 4s for the camera and to be able to fully use the new OS and just because they will be faster. We are eligible for upgrade, so seems like it was a good time.

I have been wanting the 5 ever since Apple gave me this refurb to replace my original iPhone 4. The home button has never been right and I have to press it a lot more than I should. My original had a loose sim card (would jostle loose sometimes) but I think liked dealing with that issue more than this stupid home button issue.
I want a 5, and I think I am going opening day but still debating how bad I really need it since it may or may work in my car (won't know for sure until it is released).
from a 4? Def think it is worth an upgrade. 4S? not really.
Polar bear - the same thing happened to me when I had too many apps running. If you can, double tap the home button and close everything.
We are getting the 5. Not paying for them however as DHs company covers them.
Thanks. I wish it was that easy. I only had email open and it took 4 clicks to close out of it. I've been trying to fully close out of apps ever since I found out they stay open! lol my battery was seriously lasting 2 hours and I was so annoyed and then I found out I had like 50 apps running in the background :/

My home key sometimes doesn't work like you mentioned above. I'm sure at some point something probably got in there since I let the kid use it and just toss it in my purse. It's only been the last couple months.
Since DH and I are eligible we are upgrading. I'd of waited for the next version if we weren't, unless we became eligible in the next few months. We just became eligible in June, so we haven't been waiting too long to upgrade.
Most cell phones work in Europe, you just have to get an international data plan, we had to do this with a 4 and 4s last year. Well, you don't have to get a plan but if you don't it's going to be way more expensive for your usage.
Are you on Verizon? I have been told by Verizon that my iPhone 4 will not work in Europe (but I have been told that the Verizon 4s and 5 will work in Europe). I think AT&T and maybe T-Mobile have different technology, so all of their iPhones will work abroad.
I use my work blackberry for international travel, but it is a total piece of shit so the idea of having an iPhone that will work abroad is very attractive.

Any tips for selling an iPhone on eBay? How do you make sure all your info is erased from the phone? I just checked Gazelle and they're offering $117 for the 4.

This exactly. We have decided to switch to Verizon. We will see how that decision pans out.
