I'm thinking a Sedona golf vacation for DH's 40th. I was looking at vrbo, which seems to be cheaper than bundling a hotel and golf, mostly since we can cook for ourselves if we want. Any vrbo recommendations? Or even hotels (I haven't ruled it out completely)? I think we will golf a few rounds, take a day trip to Grand Canyon.
Any recommendations for restaurants? Other things to do? I might take some hikes while he golfs, or I might hit up a spa if anyone has recommendations for that. Other things I'm not thinking of? We wanted to go somewhere we've never been. It's the first week in January, which I know will be chilly, but we are okay with that. Thanks!
I haven't been for awhile, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I've stayed at L'Auberge and it was lovely (my brother got married there). The restaurant on the creek was also nice and a wonderful experience but extremely pricey. I've also stayed at Los Abrigados and a handful of timeshare spots - none have really stood out.
Elote Cafe was great for dinner.
I don't have specific hiking recs - I just follow my brother (he lives in Phoenix and has family in Sedona - sorry, that wasn't helpful). All of the major rock formations have names and the whole area is very beautiful. I think I've done a jeep tour - which is nice to get the lay of the land. I think also going to see the sunset up at the airport.
Tlaquepaque for shopping and art.
Sorry that wasn't very helpful. It's really such a beautiful area. I'm hoping to go back next March before it gets too hot.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
We went in November about 3 years ago and had a great time. We stayed at the Amara Resort and loved it. Four adults all had massages at their spa and loved them as well.
We did an overnight trip to the Grand Canyon (we stayed in Scottsdale for two nights, one night in Grand Canyon, and then Sedona for 4 nights on the way back) and would highly recommend that if you can swing it. We stayed at El Tovar and ate dinner in their restaurant. It was the highlight of our trip. On the way to the Grand Canyon, we stopped at Montezuma’s Castle for some quick sight seeing and bathroom breaks, which was an enjoyable place to stretch our legs.
We stopped at Simply Delicious for lunch in Flaggstaff. This is such a cute little hole in the wall with really hearty sandwiches, salads, and soups.
On the way to Sedona from the Grand Canyon, we stopped in Williams at Bearizona. This place was quite a treat. I think the adults enjoyed it more than the kid as we were all in complete awe at the number of animals and their proximity to the car. The walk through portion of the zoo was fantastic as well. The otters were swimming and running around, the bear cubs were wrestling, and all of the other animals were up and about in their enclosures.
For meals, we enjoyed the Cowboy Club for dinner. My husband ordered the buffalo pot roast which he loved and my mom and I really enjoyed the bbq roast chicken. Another day we had appetizers and margaritas as 89 Agave which were quite good. We had dinner at Schoolhouse which was also delicious. The artichoke appetizer and the osso bucco were particular standouts.
We spent a morning in Tlaquepaque exploring the shops and art galleries. We had lunch at the Oak Creek Brewery. Later that night, we ate dinner at Dahl and DiLuca. From appetizers to desserts, everything, including the service, was great.
We did a pink jeep tour. As I was pregnant, we could not do an offroad tour, which was a bummer, but the scenic Sedona tour was great and our tour guide was so informative. After the tour we had a late lunch / early dinner, at Soundbites and walked back through town, exploring the tourist shops, to our hotel.
My husband and father played golf at the Sedona golf resort. They loved this course even more than TPC Scottsdale. For lunch, we headed to Wildflower Café where we enjoyed enormous sandwiches and the views from the balcony. After picking up the guys, we headed over to Bell Rock for pictures and a little hiking.
