I still can't believe we're even entertaining Supreme Court nominations from a president whose legitimacy and fitness for office are so under question. I get why the R's are doing it, and I get that the D's have no power, but they should at least be hammering this point along with opposing Kavanaugh specifically.
Good Lord, when Kellyanne Fucking Conway becomes the voice of morality ...
FLAGGING: Kellyanne Conway, moments ago to Fox News, on Kavanaugh’s accuser: “This woman should not be ignored and should not be insulted. She should be heard.”
I'm really struggling to articulate my thoughts on the idea that a sitting president is likely to attack the sexual assault victim of a SCOTUS nominee. And that his son has already done so.
Has anyone who is actually on the committee spoken up? Because I don't see how it makes much difference if people who aren't on the committee speak out. If they move forward with the vote and he goes to the full senate, I think Flake, Corker, and Murkowski will fall into line.

Flake is on the committee. The rest of the GOP members on the committee are a hot mess so it's doubtful we will hear from them. It will likely get out of committee, although may be delayed if they schedule additional meetings now. I am actually torn on whether Flake and Corker will back down when it comes to a floor vote. Normally I'd say yes, but with both of them retiring it's less likely than it typically would be. I think the dominoes are starting to fall a little.

Flake’s on the committee. Maybe in their shared mutual mourning Graham (also on the committee) will jump on board...?
I really hope the pain she is about to endure from all of our mysogynists makes a difference. I can't hold on to too much hope from the Rs in Congress since they have sold their souls to the devil, but people will remember this at the midterms, right?

Graham just put out a very weak statement. He wants everything to continue as scheduled.
I hate the idea of these assholes grilling her. I just feel so bad for her. She didn't want to be named publicly. Now she is entering into a visceral political situation.
It’s driving me NUTS how newscasters are referring to her “coming forward” (publicly) days before the vote.* Nope- she did her damndest to stay anonymous, actually tried to make this public months ago, her identity was found out, & she’s now forced to be on the defense. Let’s at least get that part correct for this poor woman. *Though props to Stephanie Ruhle who corrected two different guests who didn’t properly phrase this!
Poor Rs. It must be so hard to find a SCOTUS nominee who will staunchly fight to strip women of their bodily autonomy, but who hasn't already tried to strip women of their bodily autonomy. /sarcasm
"However, if Ms. Ford wishes to provide information to the committee, I would gladly listen to what she has to say and compare that against all other information we have received about Judge Kavanaugh."
In other words, sure, come on over and speak so we can tear you apart and then compare your story to the wealth of positive statements we underhandedly took from other people so that we can sit on our collective high horse and pretend like what happened to you isn't a big deal and shouldn't stand in the way of a wealthy white man. Fuck you, Graham.
I think he’s toast. I also suspect there’s a lot more we don’t know. It may be premature but I am having trouble seeing how they right this ship. Putting high school Kavanaugh on trial is a risky move.
I’m sure the Federalist society is already working on a new list of conservative assholes that are publicly in favor of presidential corruption.
I keep seeing people on twitter say that trump should appoint Amy Coney Barrett since she just cleared a seventh circuit appointment a year ago, but LMAO at the idea that Trump would put a woman on SCOTUS in this situation(let alone ever).

Right? The statement almost sounds like a dare to me, not a sincere willingness to hear her story.
She's so brave. I hate that she's getting destroyed on Twitter, etc. This is why #metoo exists. And I was also thinking about all those asshole women on the day of the Women's March in January 2017 talking about how they don't feel like they are treated unequally. Yeah, keep telling yourselves that.
Someone on Twitter pointed out that, if Kavanaugh is withdrawn/withdraws on his own, they won't have time to nominate and vet someone else before the midterms.

Where there's a will, there's a way. I'm sure the GOP would do everything in its power (and probably even beyond its power) to get someone else nominated and "vetted" before then.

Lol what is vetting? They’ll just shove someone through.

But certainly before the new Congress is seated in January.

I want to know, for the eleventybillionth time, why his financial issues aren't being shouted from the rooftops. WHO PAID OFF HIS DEBTS??

The Rs wanting her to be heard are doing nothing more than pretending to give a shit (so they can bear the banner of “very serious person”) before confirming him. I can go ahead and write Flake’s statement right now - After considering her testimony and the statements from the nominee, I cannot judge him on this issue from the distant past and so will vote to confirm him on his professional record.”
After fast-tracking this process and withholding vast amounts of his records, this will be spun as adequately vetting him.
Here's another thing that's pissing me off. Should Feinstein have come forward with this info earlier? Probably. But a statement that an "unidentified victim" has a claim carries much less weight than a name and a face. She's not an idiot. She knows until this person was deemed "credible" (bullshit bullshit bullshit, grrrrr), they couldn't really come out with it, because the result would have been so predictable.
