Edward and Sophie didn't decline titles. He is Earl of Wessex and will be elevated to Duke of Edinburgh on his father's death. For now his son James uses his subsidiary tile Viscount Servern. In this situation, his sister would be styled "Lady".
But they aren’t prince and princess - even though they are children of a son of the monarch. They declined that title.
Was it offered? I vaguely recall at the time that there was some surprise that Edward was not created a duke, although it's a fine thing that he will get his dad's title and be able to pass it on to James.
Princess Margret's husband Antony Armstrong-Jones was offered and accepted a title- Earl of Snowdon. Their sin used his father's subsidiary title Viscount Linley until his dad died. Like the Wessex's children, they were the grandchildren of a sovereign.
Am I the only one thinking it's pretty significant that there will be a multiracial individual who will be in the line of succession? Granted, they will be way down on the list and the probability of H &M's child being king/queen one day is low, I still think that this is noteworthy.
My family called my shit right out when I declined a beer at a family wedding, so maybe the Duchess drinks like me and there was no hiding it. lol
The number of people who figured out I was pregnant by 8 weeks because I wasn't drinking made me wonder whether I needed to re-evaluate my entire lifestyle. LOL.
This speaks to me on a spiritual level. I also lost weight in the first trimester and had trouble gaining this whole pregnancy even though I felt like I was eating so much. TURNS OUT ALCOHOL IS A LOT OF MY CALORIES! lol

Yeah, they (Edward and sophie) made a very clear choice to have their children be Lady and Viscount. They are technically entitled to use prince/princess but I think it was a smart choice on their part to avoid that. I will be interested to see if Harry and Meghan make the same choice (because again I am of the opinion that if H&M want their children to be prince/princess from the start, then it will happen.)

The reports were that they asked the Queen not to give the children the Prince/Princess title.
Now it’s just reports so we can’t be totally certain who made that call but that’s the general belief

Edward is not automatically getting DoE. It's speculated and likely but its not like Philip dies and he inherits the title. Edward specifically requested being Earl of Wessex because of Shakespeare in Love, lol. Louise and James *are* prince/princess, they just don't go by that.
This isn't quite the level of "thunder stealing" but apparently Pippa's husband was photographed entering Lindo with a couple bags and reports say Pippa was spotted shortly before him.

But not children of a male child nor grandchildren of a reigning sovereign. Prior to the change when George was born, the “rules” stated that all children of male children of the monarch were blood prince/princesses and were entitled to be called HRH and Prince/Princess __. Sophie and Edward requested their children not to be titled prince and princess.

Yes this is a huge deal! I think this child will be 8th in line, so yeah not likely to ever be the monarch, but its still pretty significant.
If H&M didn't want their children to be styled as prince/ss, it likely would have been announced on their wedding day like it was for Edward and Sophie.
Most royal experts agree that the Queen will issue letters patent during the pregnancy that will style the children as William and Kate's are. It just seems easier since they would automatically become prince/ss once Charles is on the throne anyway.

Yeah I think this is the confusion. There was nothing to "offer" louise and james. they were entitled to the HRH Prince/ss titles. It was Sophie and Edward who chose to go with Lady and then Viscount Severn.

Are the cambridges getting a new cousin today?
How dare she take away from Meghan's announcement. (that was a joke in case people couldn't tell lol.)
I find it hard to believe a lot of you wouldn’t find it obnoxious if your cousin and his wife announced her pregnancy, to your family, on your wedding day, which you already had to move because they were getting married. Come on. It’s just inappropriate and tacky.
You sound like a treat. My BIL did tell the family that his girlfriend was pregnant at his cousin's wedding actually. It wasn't an issue for the bride at all. It was just a normal conversation with the family while we were all catching up. It's not as if her friends or husband's family even knew.
A few members of my extended family found out I was pregnant at my cousin's wedding too....but that's because I was HUGE and they aren't on Facebook.

Oh and if we want to talk names.....I have no idea. Will and Kate went for traditional names - both for royals and non-royals (with maybe Louis being an exception, but I know people have said it is a very popular name currently in England.) I think Meghan and Harry will follow suit - names that have a royal connection but are also just nice names. I imagine we'll see a lot of the same names that were suggested for Will and Kate being suggested again - Alice, Alexandra, Charles, Philip. I wonder if they will go with just two names or more.
I just looked it up to see what Sophie and Edward did lol and Louise has 4 names - Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary.
I would love it if they used Alice. I can see them using Phillip. I'm curious if there's anything on Meghan's side they might want to use.
Maybe they'll name the baby after the friend that introduced them. Oh or maybe her Suits character lol
Apparently Samantha is in the oddsmakers list. It's like the bottom of the list, as it should be. That annoyed me, don't bring those awful people into this happy moment.

Wasn't her suits character Rachel? That is actually Meghan's first name so it could be among their choices, especially for a middle name.
I saw somewhere that they could use a name (for a girl or boy) that began with a D for Diana and Doria and I thought that would be cute.

I see them using names of people significant to them but maybe not family. Like children they met during charity work in Africa or a soldier from Harry's unit. I feel like they attach significance to these things already (Invictus, the diamond in her ring) so it wouldn't be out of character.

David is one of Harry's middle names, and is the patron saint of Wales, so that would be a nice compromise.

This is a much more worthy point of conversation that nitpicking when/ how they announced. And how much of a snatch do you have to be to call a family pregnancy announcement "tacky and inappropriate"??

Completely agree!
I feel like points of note like this and Meghan's veil that represented the current and former countries of the commonwealth are really important turning point discussions for things relating to the British monarchy/empire. They do not erase all that was done, but its a pivot that I hope we see more of as time goes on.

Live video from an appearance at the Governor General's residence is on right now. She's in a form-fitting white sleeveless dress and I wouldn't have thought she was pregnant if I didn't know.
Also, in the less than 5 minutes of coverage so far, she has touched her hair/ear at least 15 times! Now that it was pointed out, I am noticing it more - nope, 18, and with both right and left hands.
I don't even think I'm going to post guesses for the sex and names this time around, because I'm always completely wrong, lol.
I would guess Meghan and Harry probably have more leeway with name choices than Kate and William did - and if the kid doesn't wind up getting the HRH Prince/ss title then I imagine there will be even more leeway in choosing his/her name.
Godparents are also fun to guess. After all this "thunder stealing" talk, it'd be hilarious if Eugenie winds up being a godmother.
Yep, and one of the baby’s middle names should be Eugene/Eugenie.
Tweet with video clip of Harry and Meghan being given a stuffed Kangaroo and baby booties <3
Do you know how many people on the schedule are like, "shit! they're pregnant! Someone find a meaningful baby gift we can give them in the next 10 hours!" lol
