My "tradition" is to watch the Thanksgiving Day parade, and then switch over to Miracle on 34th Street - the perfect transitional holiday movie! All while drinking a glass of sparkling wine, of course! I'm doing tons of stuff during this time, like making the green bean casserole, rolls, etc. It's a really fun morning, especially because I've done so much in advance I never feel stressed.
I love the morning of! We make a pretty big breakfast to hold us over until dinner, we go for a family walk, the kids play outside. I love to set the table and make everything feel cozy and homey before I start cooking. My inlaws come over and hang out, watch football and then my family gets there around dinner time. It's my favorite holiday because it is just so chill. No traveling, no timelines, just food and family!
In the morning for Thanksgiving, I usually go for a good long run (which this year won't be very long at all, lol), then come home and start drinking and snacking. I might make something for breakfast this year? We moved our TV to the basement so we just play music and get things ready. I make a time schedule for when things need to start, and I usually premake/prep as much as I can the days before.

I am tying to find that pumpkin stuffed recipe - google didn’t help. Anyone have a link?
We fly back from Disneyland on Thanksgiving and don’t get in until 6pm, so I think we’ll end up doing Thanksgiving with my ILs late or the next day. What can I prep a week ahead besides a cheese board and apps?
I’ll be mining this thread for ideas. I’ll be planning and cooking dinner from my SiL’s house. She’s going to be too pregnant to travel and definitely too pregnant to cook. I’m happy to cook, but omg their kitchen. It is so tiny and so jammed with non cooking things since cooking isn’t their strong suit.

I love Thanksgiving because of this. I usually do a ton the week before, so the day of is more fun than anything. I drink a mimosa or just prosecco, watch the parade, and harass my mom while she makes the dressing (she always does that).
I should add that I don't know if I'm hosting thanksgiving this year so I don't have a plan yet. I should see if anyone in my family has any interest (I usually host but I don't want to be a holiday hog ha.)

We are going back to my parents' house again and DH and I will probably do the majority of the cooking for the big extended family meal. Last year I made six pies and a couple of veggie sides and cranberry sauce. DH made two turkeys, stuffing and gravy.
Last year the best thing I made was a pumpkin-praline pie -- combination of pumpkin on the bottom + a pecan-pie layer on top. Cooks Illustrated recipe. OMG, so good. I want to make that again for sure, will probably make two.
I'm thinking of trying to make a pavlova this year. There was a recipe in the most recent CI issue, and it's a sort of meringue-ish thing on the bottom topped with oranges and cranberries. I've made CI's French apple tart before and that was pretty awesome, too.
I try to change it up a little every year on the desserts, I like trying new recipes.

MH runs a bakery so we never travel or host since it's his busiest time of year and he works from 2am-2pm that day. We might have another "stranded" family over with us, but that's TBD. Either way, I don't care and make enough food for an army. We're also doing a neighborhood friendsgiving two weeks before. I'll make the pumpkin stuffed with everything good for that one and then for actual t-day:
Cheese tray for snacking during the day, plus pimento cheese and breadsticks Smoked turkey w/ gravy Green bean casserole, the fancy AF kind with deep fried shallots and homemade cream of celery Corn pudding Mashed potatoes Praline sweet potatoes Yeast rolls (the dough makes a huge batch so I split it in 3 and do a pan of cinnamon rolls for breakfast, a pan of rolls for dinner, and a loaf of bread for leftover sammiches the next day) Dressing Roasted carrots "Canberries"
Apple, pumpkin and pecan pie (neighbors come over for pie and bourbon/cocktails in the evening every year).
Yeast rolls (the dough makes a huge batch so I split it in 3 and do a pan of cinnamon rolls for breakfast, a pan of rolls for dinner, and a loaf of bread for leftover sammiches the next day)
I am allergic to pomegranates so this wouldn’t be a problem for me.
They are a winter fruit though. I recall getting them in my farm share box about 10 years ago right before Thanksgiving. So maybe there will be more available by the time you need them.
We are going to a friend's for Thanksgiving day, for which I'll bring some sort of appetizer. I usually do a cheese board, but might try something new this year.
We also do Friendsgiving with another group. It's not our turn to host that one, so I'll make the dressing and maybe mac n' cheese.

This thread was a good reminder to clean out my fridge and pantry. Tomorrow I'll look through my stock and see what dry goods I need to pick up at the next grocery store trip.
Does anyone have a yeast roll recipe they love? That's the one item where I'd like to try a new recipe this year.

Everyone should add this, if they're serving rolls. It is so good! I should make it more throughout the year, but usually just make it for the holidays.
