I've got the work stuff handled pretty well. The stuff I'll be doing there is similar to what I've done on trips elsewhere.
Sadly, one of the big things on my mind about the trip is if I'll be able to bring knitting needles thru security on my way back. It's a long flight from Rio to DFW! (and I'll be in coach, so sleeping might happen for a while, but not for long...) All I can find out with googling is that sharp things like knives are not permitted.
I was able to bring knitting needles when I went to California two months ago. :-) TSA says they're permitted.
My health insurance is saying that they are grandfathered, so they won't be following a lot of the affordable care act things. It sucks, I was so hoping for a free IUD.
Wut? Did they mean just until your plan renews? My plan renews in July so I'm waiting a full year for free bc.

No, they just renewed. The letter I got with my renewal packet says they are a grandfathered health plan, which means the plan may not include certain consumer protections of the Affordable Care Act that apply to other plans. This included b/c.

I...didn't know they could do that. That sucks pretty bad.
I just brought my car in because it's having issues, and I'm actually praying it's the transmission because that's covered under warranty (yay for Hyundai's 100,000-mile warranties!). It feels odd to be hoping that something so major is wrong with my car. I should correct myself--I hope that's what it is AND that it's for sure covered under warranty.
Also, I loooove Papa John's garlic sauce, but I find there's this very fine balance between "I love this, I love this, I want more" to "OMG, I ate too much and that is completely disgusting." I have to make sure I have just the right amount!

Oh, yeah, TSA has allowed them for ages. But the TSA doesn't control the security check points in other countries...
I've brought them thru countless US and Canadian airports, a number of European, and some Asian airports and their security. But this will be my first trip to South America, and my last trip home from Hungary was fussy about the metal knitting needles (they were OK with wooden/bamboo, but not metal), so I'm feeling a bit more cautious about the international travel.
I've looked online at the airport's website, but all it says is that sharp objects like knives are not permitted. I'm hoping this means at least bamboo needles will be allowed for my return flight...
I have a bragplaint: The admin at my office put out a candy bowl full of Halloween candy. He says he's keeping it full until Halloween. This is very nice of him, but I have NO self control and I don't want to eat that much candy! It is kind of gross how quickly it is disappearing and then he just refills it. I feel like it is a so unhealthy to fatten up our entire office! But I work with mostly guys and they love it.
I'm working on my self control, but I walk by his desk like 20 times a day, so it is hard to resist every single time! I'm trying to only eat 1 or 2 a day... I need to encourage him to get candy I don't like!
We have finally bit the bullet and decided that our dog needs professional training/help.
I feel like a dog mom failure for bringing up a little a terror.
No way. Don't feel that way at all! I feel extremely lucky to have randomly adopted a dog with an easygoing disposition. He's not perfect by any means, but pretty easy to train. I would be screwed if we had ended up with a difficult dog to train. We would definitely be hiring a trainer!

**TMI alert** I have to have surgery today and went in this AM for the pre-op appointment. as part of my prep I have to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate. They told me to stay near a bathroom b/c it will gove me diarrhea. It is a beautiful day outside so I was planning to take DD to the playground, but instead we are stuck inside while I wait for my diarrhea to start. +o(
The most darling massage school student gave me a 5 min massage at our employee wellness fair today, and when I told him I was a runner, he threw in an extra calf massage.
Somehow $21 worth of meat didn't make it home with me from Whole Foods yesterday :@ . I'm just noticing now so I hope they don't give me the side eye when I come in with my receipt asking for my meat. Hopefully the cashier caught it and logged it.
I dug the receipt from the bottom of my icky trashcan too. I'm sure they would have given me the benefit of the doubt, but $21 is a lot. Makes me wonder what else I forget.

I just signed up for a security system that we really want, but am nervous because the company has a lot of negative reviews online. But, we have researched a ton of companies and they ALL have a lot of negative reviews. And we had an awful experience so far with ADT. I am really hoping that it is just a lot of dumb people writing reviews and that if I use common sense and read the contracts I won't get screwed. But whatever, this company is putting a fancy touchscreen display in my bedroom for free.
Also, I am being a big whiny baby about life right now because it kinda blows. My mom is really sick and will probably be re-admitted to the hospital tomorrow because of her liver failure. I hate that H is deployed again so shortly after the last one and that everything is so scary right now. Also, I have a lot of pain from my hernia surgery two years ago lately and was told they need to do an exploratory surgery to see why, but we can't do that right now because I have no one to care for my son while I am out with H being gone. So, I just have some painkillers that don't really help. Plus, I can't take anymore time off work, they have been so accommodating with everything that I really can't ask for anything else. Thanks for letting me vent. I feel better now.
Audette, I flew with my metal circs to both Rio and Sao Paulo last year with no problems.
And home, too? Sorry to get that stupidly specific, but I know I can take them down with me - I only go thru security once here on the way down, but the info available for the way back is what is spotty... And it really sucks to have to toss needles at security.
Sometimesrunner- in sushi, in a sandwich( I like toasted avocado mozz cheese wraps, but they are also amazing on turkey) on a salad ( pairs great with citrus flavors) sliced on tacos, or in chili. Yum!
My random is that I have the.worst.pms.EVER lately & I wanna eat the whole house right now, but I am close to my caliriesfor the day so I can't. The sad fact is I wasn't going to count this week cause it's Birthday on Sunday, & there is yumminess everywhere, but I can't bring myself to stop. Blah
Awkward- Your post reminded me of those old station wagons with rear-facing seats in the back. I used to love riding in those.
Yesterday, two people told me they don't like avocados and another person said she has never tried one. That made me sad. I love avocados.
I've never tried one. Other than guacamole how am I supposed to eat one? HELP ME!
Haha. There are many ways! I think guacamole is a good introduction to avocados. Other ways I like to eat them are on salads, sandwiches, on top of omelettes, in "sushi" rolls, in egg rolls, in smoothies...the list goes on. Sometimes I just eat it plain with a little bit of salt on it.
I just gave a 2.5-hour review session. I have some seriously anxious students. (I'm choosing to assume that they are anxious and not bad at chemistry.)
I want to go to bed. But first I have to drive 40 minutes home and grade 48 papers tonight.
Our school nurse wears a white doctor's lab coat. I am really perplexed why she does this. Maybe it is a case of dressing for the job you want, not the one you have.
I've worked with multiple school nurses. One wore scrubs. The others dressed like the rest of the staff but wore the coat - I think for the pockets and to identify themselves as the nurse, which can be vital.

Got a job offer today for a position in North Carolina!! I am so excited!! I know it'll be stressful the next few weeks trying to pick up and move down there but I have wanted this for so long that I don't even care!! And hello awesome pay increase! Definitely makes it easier to deal with the stress of it all! I'm just nervous to put in my notice tomorrow at work. But yay North Carolina!!

Where in NC? And good luck with giving notice. It usually isn't as bad as it seems.

Thanks! The position is in Raleigh. I'll be a little sad to leave my current job but I know this new opportunity is totally gonna be worth it.
No, thank goodness! What a weird image for the back of a bus.
Seriously! I feel like he is watching me. Like that cat clock whose eyes move as the tail swings. He really give me the hebbie jeebies!
I suppose I should post a random, but I don't have much today. Day 7 of being unable to drive is annoying.
LOL - that's a Mega Bus. I took one a few times recently. They are very MM but I had a horrible experience with one last month so I get a little angry/bitter every time I see one now.
