They had a promotion with a great interest rate and a money bonus for opening a new savings account. I opened one 3 weeks ago because I would get a 1k bonus for just opening an account with X amount in it if I keep the money in until January. Who wouldn't want 1k of free money?! Especially since we don't touch that money in our account anyway. Let it earn 1k + interest just sitting in a new one.
Except THEY messed up my account ( they admitted to it) and I've been dealing with them fixing it since the day I opened the account. Its been almost 3 weeks and money is finally being taken out of my Capital One 360 account and transferred into Ally today. Except I was told I was no longer eligible for the bonus because the money won't hit Ally until the 7th and the promotion was until the 5th.
I have been on the phone for hours over the last week, told multiple times that a manger would call me back which never happened, rudely told I should have gone to my bank and wired the money to the new account (WTF?), and no one ever told me that their error was going to put my bonus at risk until last week when I again couldn't get the Ally account to accept a transfer because of an error on their end.
I now have to wait for 10 business days for a higher up to review my case to see if they will honor the promotion for me. SO basically, December since Thanksgiving is going to mess up that 10 day window.
If they don't honor it, I'm closing the account. And I will have lost out on interest I could have been earning at my old account
Anyone have positive experiences with Ally bank?
Update: After numerous phone calls, I received an email saying that I am enrolled in the promotional bonus program so I'll have $1k deposited into my account on January 15th. I guess the hours on the phone were worth that
Update #2: So, the 1k bonus was supposed to hit my account on Feb 15th. Of course it wasn't in there. I emailed back the email that I received ensuring me that I was enrolled in the program way back in November after the initial BS. I called yesterday to ask where the bonus was. Of course the rep had no idea and forwarded my issue to the appropriate department and said I would receive a call or email within 7-10 business days. So I'm out 10+ days of interest on the added 1k. Even though its 2.25%, its still something that I should have and don't. As soon as that money is in there, I'm closing the account and switching to whoever else has a similar rate. This account has been nothing but a headache.

Ally bank is awful, I have so many problems with Ally, I think they only offer the $1,000 because they are desperate to get new customers, I am sorry you are having problems and I hope it will get resolved soon

Sorry you're having so many issues, that sounds SO frustrating.
I have had a savings account with them for several years and never had a problem. I also opened a checking account last year that I used very little but again, no problems.

I have ally and have never had any issues, but never needed to deal with customer service either. I hope they take care of everything for you. They pay good interest rates so I’ll stay with them until I have an issue or someone else pays better
We have Ally. We haven't had any issues. The only downside is when you need a notary (only it's not a notary, it's something more stringent and I can't think of the name. We needed it to donate stocks). You can usually do that at your bank, but if your bank is online only, it's a pain in the ass.

We have Ally. I initially had very good experiences after opening the account >5 years ago. I haven't needed to do anything with the account or access the money in years though, so no recent experience good or bad.

IDK if this helps, but if people are looking for place to stash savings, I've had an account at FNBO Direct for probably more than 10 years now (it's the online branch of a brick-and-mortar bank, First National Bank of Omaha). Every time people talk about a good rate I check and FNBO always has it matched or bettered. Right now I think they are at 2.0 APY.

BTW, if you do get to talk to a manager, don't be afraid to play the "I posted about this on a Money Management board I'm a regular of, and people were very surprised to hear..." There was someone on the H&G board who was having trouble with a company and hearing that they were getting a bad rep on social media decorating site made them suddenly fall over themselves to help out.
CIT bank is 2.15% (amounts under $25k require a $100/month deposit; amounts over $25k have no deposit requirement).
I dont know if they do subaccounts though, like Capital One.
I have never heard of this bank. Will look into it now.
My brother just retired at age 36. . He now spends his time playing the market and finding ways to make free money. He's the one who sent me the info on Ally bank because he made a grand by opening an account. Then another grand by having his wife open one too. Which he will close out now that he's been paid and move the money to somewhere that will make him more money. I guess that finance degree worked out well for him.
I can not say I am really surprised, that $1,000 promotion thing is too good to be true, I said Ally Bank was awful in my original post, I am sorry you had a bad experience and I hope you will find a better bank that you will be happy with
