Did you vote for Beto or Gillum? I’ve heard this from several people who do not live in places where they could vote for these candidates and frankly it’s super annoying. It’s ok and appropriate to be extremely disappointed/sad/angry because someone we believed in lost and we are now represented by someone who we fundamentally disagree with.
I didn't but the democratic candidate in the district I live in lost by a close margin. She's the first to ever come so close to beating out the Republican incumbent in a very red district. So, I get it and I'm really disappointed by that loss because I LOATHE our rep but its not overshadowing the other wins from last night.
I can see that but also think it’s strange that you think people should be over an extremely disappointing loss in less than 24 hours just because there is good news too. I hope that the democratic house can do as much good as we hope!
Our local school levy failed and I'm so sad and upset. DS2 is terrified he's going to lose his amazing, supportive teachers (like the technology teacher, a guidance counselor he adores, and some other support staff). It frustrates me that this failed, but I can't help but think our schools didn't do a very good job at making sure everyone knew what its intended use was. In 2016, we passed a levy that would build a new K-8 building (technically 2 buildings, attached with a giant rotunda) and a new athletic facility (we currently use a neighboring university's facility, which is quite expensive). This year, they put an OPERATIONAL levy on the ballot because the State of Ohio restructured their budget and short-changed a ton of school districts. So many people thought this levy was because the district over-shot their budgets on the new buildings we're getting. An operational levy has absolutely nothing to do with building maintenance and/or new buildings. It's an entirely different pool of money. I'm so frustrated with the olds in our town that think that because they no longer have children attending schools, they should vote down levies because of property tax increases (which, this would have increased taxes $4/month per $100,000 home value...most homes in our area are valued between $100-150k).
It also is frustrating because there's probably more likeliness that people just didn't do their research on this levy, which scares me to think that they did no research on any issues/candidates at all in this election.
Levy here also failed by 9,000 votes, I actually voted no because they passed a levy years ago so I did not think they really need another levy

We had a city income tax hike lose 60-40 and I believe it largely had to do with lack of information. The hike would have been a small amount and still put our city lower than the state average. Realistically the city could use some extra funds, but the city did pretty much no campaigning and the opposition did a ton. I am fairly certain all of the information I received was why to vote "no". The little I saw from the city was on Facebook through our Mayor's Council and the gist was "vote yes so we can repair our roads". I'm an educated voter and I couldn't tell you why to vote "yes" or whether the information coming from the opposition was true or false.
I'm sorry to hear your levy failed. Having worked in education my whole adult life I understand the importance of fully funded schools and the challenges of passing levies. Hopefully your district can reconsider their campaign and put the levy on the ballot for the next election.

Man you're something else. Between this post and yesterday's...
Are you sure you voted for a levy a few years ago and not for a bond? If you voted for a bond a few years ago, they can't use the money to pay teachers, fund programs and so much more. This is what a levy is for.
If the levy hadn't passed yesterday in my district, it would mean closing a school, letting go of teachers, the end of special programs, school buses not being free anymore and having class sizes at around 45. I would suggest you keep an eye on your local news to see what your vote is going to to do the schools around you.
I'm heading to GA for a wedding and a few days in Savannah starting Friday PM and I'm SO ready to just GO. I've completely checked out of work and can't get a damn thing done.
That paired with Ohio staying red (Governor, Secretary of State, etc.) and I'm done with this week. Thank God for Sherrod Brown.

They don't put levies out there for funsies. They put them out there because there is a real, legitimate need for funding. How long was "years" ago? Most levies only carry districts through for 3-5 years. FFS do some research before you blindly vote no because you don't think there's a need.

Again, did you do any research to see what this year's levy would cover? Or if it was actually a levy and not a bond like Aloe Vera mentioned? Was it a renewal (which isn't a new tax)? Was it for facilities improvements? Operational? To provide a new Resource Officer in the school buildings to keep our kids safe?

It is operational and it does not matter anymore since it failed so maybe in 2 years, I will vote yes and maybe it will pass
Good lord. This reminds me of the guy in front of me in the line to vote who asked how he was supposed to know anything about SO MANY candidates. The woman behind me shot him a dirty look and said "read."
FFS, if you haven't bothered to research what you are voting for, maybe abstain from voting for that particular issue.

I don't know why I'm even responding, since it's obviously going to fall on deaf ears, BUT IT DOES MATTER. You and the 8,999 who thought it wasn't necessary without doing any research caused the levy to fail, therefore leaving a hole in the budget that will need to be filled. How does this get filled? Laying off teachers, cutting programming, cutting busing (which many families depend on), etc.
Full disclosure: I understand not every levy is necessary. But an operational levy is not thrown on the ballot for shits and giggles. It's put out there because administration has realized there is going to be a deficit in the budget that needs help being filled.

It does matter. You need to be better educated. Your vote has real consequences in your community. You being all "I did not think they really need another levy" is a stupid statement.

Yeah we get a booklet in the mail, and a TON of literature from candidates, and TV ads and door to door stops, and open candidate nights and I could go on. Again in 2018 it's a little hard to say "no one told me". Are some of the ballot questions long and hard to understand? Yes, but then you try to find more information.

I worked the election Kansas here yesterday. It went very smoothly. Thankfully no irate voters this time. Had 19 people need to do a provisional ballot, but they were all good with it once we explained.

I researched the crap out of all Florida’s amendments, but even with that there were two where I worry I accidentally voted the opposite way I intended. I know they did that shit on purpose plus the bundling of things didn’t help: 2 positive but 1 super horrible negative =1 pissed off voter.

I am glad that Florida will end greyhound racing by 2020. People on my next door app said they voted against it bc “the dogs like to run” and “they’ll all need a home and overwhelm the rescue” despite being told that rescues are all set up to take unwanted dogs.
Also, I’m glad that the women I work at the book fair with all seem liberal, I was never going to say anything about politics but the librarian mentioned her hate of 45 and the other women chimed in and how disappointed and sad they were about the midterm elections.

The negativity about the election is getting on my nerves. Obviously not everything went the way I (democrats) would have hoped but the fact that we flipped so many house seats is HUGE. Of course I'm disappointed about Beto and Gillum losing but the fact that they were as close to winning as they were, in deeply red states, is amazing. I feel like theres a huge underappreciation for what was actually accomplished last night because of those losses.
Well, living in Florida, where my health insurance became a mess bc of a republican governor who is now a senator and promised to support trump in every way possible (dismantle ACA in particular) And a new governor (Gillums opponent) who on paper is as bad or worse than the guy before him on immigrant issues, women’s right to choose issues, affordable housing issues, health care issues, environmental issues, you get the picture.
god forbid one is upset that their life will 100% be directly affected but their voting in.
Too bad that you don’t like my feelings I have the day of the results. Feel free to block me.

DH and I went to a show the night before we voted, and started discussing amendments because we were really early and had nothing else to do. We pulled up websites and went through them and made cheat sheets (written on the throw away part of out tickets-lol).
We went through them carefully at the time, but when DH started trying to give me results today I was lost without my cheat sheet or the website help. The wording is so confusing on some of them.
I still haven't pulled up the explanations or found my cheat sheet to compare to the results. I am not in the mood to know yet.

The one about needed voter approval for casinos was confusing no matter who/where explained it. I also research who is supporting which side and research that and it give me a lot of info but the people on either side seemed all bad.

There were a couple that seemed like good ideas, but the wording actually made it so that it could easily be twisted to take away from rather than do for whoever/whatever. I was for them in theory but was not comfortable with the wording, so it was frustrating.
ETA: My response sounds like a badly worded amendment. lol

Are you serious with this?!?!?! I hope you never expect a bonus/raise/paycheck again. You got paid last year so I don’t think you really need any more money.
