A large Victorian has come up for sale in our neighborhood and we are very interested. We looked at it today and it needs a lot of work. Like, a ton. Cosmetically everything needs to be majorly updated and everything is just really... old. Yes, I know I sound incredibly knowledgeable. We want to have it inspected before we put an offer in. The people selling are our neighbors and we are friendly with them and they want us to buy it, so I don’t think they’ll have a problem with it. I just really want someone who knows what they’re doing and want the most thorough inspection available. Any ideas of what I should look for and ask for?

I would ask any inspector how much experience they have with heritage homes before I hired them. If your city/town has a heritage committee I might contact them to see if they have any recommendations for an inspector, since most of the people on those committees are heritage homeowners themselves.
