I have to be in San Diego for work and have RT flights booked there in late March for a staggered vacation/work trip (not on same days). I originally thought of doing DLR but talked myself out of it and thought we should just relax in San Diego for 5 nights before my work starts, but it looks like it may be cold for swimming? So now I’m thinking maybe DLR. Talk me in or out of it.... my kids are 5/7.5.

Do it! The food and wine festival will be going on at DCA. Weekends will be busy but weekdays will be fine. There is no down season out here so hit the parks early.
We went when it was pretty busy ( they were saying 8-9 crowd levels) last year and had a great time. We got there before rope drop and did a ton of rides in the morning before it got way busier in the afternoon. Then went back to rest in the afternoon and went back in the evening. We were there in May and it was definitely too cold to swim, but I think we might have had weird weather.

Thanks!
We are early risers and would have Friday - Wednesday but could spend some of that in San Diego. We arrive SAN late Thursday night and my work starts Wednesday night or Thursday morning in San Diego.

ribollita I would do Thurs & Fri night in San Diego and then drive up to Anaheim on Saturday night. Do the parks Sun-Tues and then drive back to San Diego on Wednesday. That would give you 3 full days in the parks and if stay on property you can get into DCA for EMH on Sun and Mon and Disneyland on Tuesday. If you stay off property but buy a 3 day park hopper, you can use your one Magic Morning at Disneyland on Tuesday.
It won't be ocean swimming temperature even if the weather is warm; the Pacific ocean is COLD out here. We get excited if the water temp is 68F. I know that Disney heats their pools year round and I have used them when the weather has been in the 50s and 60s. Not sure about the offsite hotels; they might also heat their pools.
You will encounter some Spring Break crowds but the schools out here are pretty good about staggering the breaks over a 4-7 week period so that not everyone is off at the same time.
Have you ever been to San Diego before? There’s so much to do there with kids- the zoo, the wild animal park, museums in Balboa, visiting Hotel Del, legoland, olde town, ocean beach, etc. I would do Disney for a day, but if you’ve already done DW a bunch of times I’d stick around San Diego and experience that more.

My husband and I have been there separately but not w kids yet. I guess my thoughts are that my kids (especially 7.5yo DS) will grow out of Disney soon, he’s already kind of done so w a lot at WDW, and I want him to see DCA while he’s still little if we are relatively close. I also have trips to San Diego af least once a year so this isn’t a once in a lifetime thing. And they/we can do the Zoo and old town during my meeting days.
But like I said above I need help being talked in or out of it! I appreciate your thoughts!
We are doing DL for 3 days, legoland for 1, and the wild animal park for 1 leaving one day for pool/hotel relaxing. We’ve been to all of them before with ds1 but DS2 hasn’t been. They will be 7 and almost 3. Last time we went ds1 was 3 and we had a blast.
I think it’s totally worth 2 days to do DL and CA if you’re already in San Diego.
