You guys, Trump will get one of these funerals someday.
Ugh
No one will go to that. Willingly. Just like his inauguration, it’s going to be an embarrassingly small number of people, which is exactly what he deserves.

Yup. The people lining up for hours to pay their respects? That won't happen with Trump. There will be no hours long lines for him.
Presidents actually plan their funerals from early in their first term, according to the White House Historical Society. So I'm sure Trump has already requested a thousand doves painted gold, an army of MAGA-hatted children marching behind his hearse, and a ceremonial gold cannon fired 45 times in his honor.
I was reading something earlier today that said that Kennedy didn't plan anything for his own funeral before he was assassinated (which is, I'm sure, why subsequent presidents plan theirs earlier in their terms), so Jackie modeled her husband's funeral after Lincoln's. Which is how the tradition of the casket resting on the Lincoln catafalque came into being.
That's got to be a real downer ... you're the POTUS, sitting there at your desk in the Oval Office, and some staff member comes in and says "Time to start planning your funeral!" Womp womp.
I'm guessing someone gave Orange Foolius a horse sized tranquilizer dart of xanax or something if he's not acting foolish and is just sitting. He's incapable of doing that unmedicated, I am sure.

Or maybe he has a shock collar on and anytime a handler sees him even begin to LOOK like he's going to do or say something, they just shock him.

Not to the scale of other recently deceased presidents, I'm sure ... but he still has (and will continue to have) plenty of admirers who'd follow him to the ends of the earth, and will be genuinely sad when he's gone.
Plenty of current politicians (even the ones decrying him as we speak) will show up to his services because it's "the right thing to do" or "he was still our president" or "when you talked to him in person he wasn't that bad" or "we need to put aside politics and come together," or because they want pictures and video to show the world how classy/sad/patriotic they are.
And there will be a ton of ordinary citizens who will want to be a part of history, or see something "cool," even if they didn't personally support him and even if they thought he wasn't a good guy. Plenty of people who'll show up out of (maybe morbid) curiosity. Plenty of people who'll want to brag to their friends and post on social media that they were there. Tons of people out there who know that he's a douchebag who intentionally hurts people, but because his policies and attitude didn't personally affecting them they'll just shrug and say, "Well, Hillary would've been equally as bad" or "My life didn't change so it didn't really matter."
We wouldn't be in this mess today if our citizenry wasn't the type who'd show up to his funeral, regardless of how he acted and what he did, to mourn him. He's president because plenty of people have been willing to go along with all of this. He'll have mourners because plenty of people will be willing to go along with it.

I liken it to what someone upthread said - yes, people will come. I know that. But it's like his inauguration. Incredibly low attendance compared to past inaugurations.
I'm going to believe he did that PURELY to be like "F-you Trump - these people are the shit, you aren't".
ETA: and even if not that, what a cute way to bring a little levity to such a solemn moment.
Didn't he give her a cough drop or candy at Sen. McCain's funeral, too? I seem to recall that being mentioned.
Yes, which is why he probably did it today. That was caught on camera and people thought it was so sweet/cute so he decided to do it today to bring some levity to the occasion.
Sources tell The Daily Beast that Trump has repeatedly shrugged off the increasing National Debt, implying that he doesn't have to worry about it because he won't be in office when it becomes even more untenable.

But seriously, it's not at all surprising that he'd say this since everything is all about him. Plus with all of his bankruptcy experiences he's probably like "eh, it'll be fine ya drama queens."

It’s also not a departure from the Bush years either.
I was thinking earlier- even if you disagree with their politics, there are nice things to say about the Bushes, right? At the very least, they're devoted to their families.
There is literally nothing nice to say about Trump. He has not done one thing in an effort to improve the lives of others.

Good point. "He'd totally sleep with his daughter if he could" isn't really a good standard of a family man.
