But I thought all the consultants owned their own business 😀 Know what’s a really cool perk of owning your own business? Not having some shady CEOs above you that could ruin everything and force you to go out of business.
I know MLM have been around forever, but have clothing based ones like this been popular? I never saw the appeal of LLR as either a customer or a consultant and I don't like buying clothes this way so it all seems so strange to me, even buying from non LLR "boutiques." Is this a new phenomenon, or something that's always existed that I didn't know about?
I know of a bunch of different clothing MLMs... unfortunately. And I know a few IRL people who decided to start their own clothing business/boutique run in a similar fashion to the MLMs - but without the 'up line' nonsense. They buy an inventory of stuff they think will sell - probably from alibaba or some such site - and either host video sales live on FB, have a popup shop on FB, or hold parties in their own home (they don't haul to others' homes).
One of the girls I know is relatively successful at it, but she was with LLR too (she got out early b/c her partner didn't want to continue after her baby, maybe she saw the writing on the wall too).
One of my friends that used to sell LLR (and Lipsense because of course) has been doing this since she stopped LLR/Lipsense. It seems like she's been pretty successful with it-she ended up buying a small bus and outfitted it as a mobile boutique so she's been able to take it to people's houses, community events, etc. The stuff she has currently is NMS, but I've gotten some cute stuff from her in the past.
Not surprisingly, she's had a hell of a time unloading her remaining LLR stuff. She was having huge sales etc but the stuff she had left was extra ugly and the LLR bubble has popped here in a big way so people just aren't interested anymore.
As much as I despise MLMs and don't generally feel bad for anyone who willingly signs up to shill for one, I do feel vaguely ill for the sellers who are already stuck with thousands of dollars of worthless, hideous polyester that they will never sell, never recoup their funds on, and will never be reimbursed for returning (if they returned it when they thought they'd get their money back for doing so).

Your vaguely ill is my vaguely gleeful, because I like it when willfully ignorant people are smacked with reality, it makes me smug for not being a dummie. I'm also not about all this 'mlm's prey on women' bullshit. Women are smarter than that, these chicks chose to be dupes for a quick and easy buck despite all logic pointing to that being a horrible idea.
Really? You both were part of this overall MLM problem.
LLR was different in that you could make a ton of $$ (back at its peak) simply through selling product/without relying on your downline for income. Of the money I made with LLR, 99% of it was from selling the actual clothing. I jumped in pretty impulsively (after a thread on here about how much people were making) and when I joined they were still touting the "made in the US" stuff and it seemed like a decent company.
It's sort of an out of body experience to think now that I sold this stuff. Definitely my top embarrassing life choice.
But yes, I am here for the tea. They deserve to go down in flames.
But to put some numbers on it, I was selling $10k+/month and keeping around half of that in profit. Bringing home an extra $5k/month in fun money was worth the BS. There WAS a period of time when you could take advantage of the craze and make some easy money. But I got out at the first signs of slow down.

Oh, I agree with you. I absolutely do not go for the hapless victim spin, and I do think that even when the sellers were being assured from the top down that the 100% buyback was there to stay and so everything looked risk-free, they should have known that literally nothing, especially in business, is risk-free... but reading stories over and over from people who are so completely financially fucked now because they were blindsided by LLR rescinding that policy is just, yikes. Hard not to sympathize with sometimes.

I don't feel bad for the well-educated or SAHMs whose husband's bankrolled their initial investment. I do feel bad for financially unstable women who were sold a promise of thousands or hundreds of thousands if they could just scrounge up an initial investment. Imagine being poor your whole life and being sold a dream of making upwards of 10k a month. That's hard to resist. Those are the people I feel bad for.
And a FB friend literally just put up a pro LLR post. I can't believe she's still sticking with it.
If it’s the same, I was under the impression that most of those donations were simply given to her by friends? Not sure why it’s being attributed to LLR.

There is actually a coordinated effort right now among retailers to post #becauseoflularoe shit like this.

There are some people who researched the company and it’s policies, and made an educated decision based on that information. The company then went back on so many promises, withheld money, and harassed/abused many of its employees. It may have been foolish of people to get involved in an MLM, but what the company did to these consultants is criminal. I am okay with feeling bad for victims of actual crimes, and not okay with blaming the victims of those crimes no matter the foolishness that led them to be involved.

Right, but she asked for donations on her personal page and I believe many people donated through that link (and not "because of LuLaRoe" at all).

I haven't read all the posts yet. I didn't realize they get paid on a gift card, not a direct payment. Again how are more and more people still signing up for this bs?
Not related to the suit, a friend of mine is FB live with her son to sell a make up MLM (not Limelight). He looks rather annoyed like he doesn't want to be on camera. Leave the kids out of it.

What is the world are you all talking about?
Someone who used to post here posted on her personal FB page a while ago, asking for donations for a charity that is near and dear to her, and people fulfilled the whole wish list. I would imagine it was also posted to her LLR page, but I don't follow there.
Today, she posted a "#becauseoflularoe" that talked about how she was able to give $x and all of these great things that the charity needed because of LLR, but it's unclear why that is "because of LLR" when people who do not buy her stuff were also donating to her charity.
I think LLR does some kind of fundraiser match (based on clothing sold/sales numbers, not donated items). Something I didn't know until I joined the defective group is that many retailers did these fundraisers and LLR never fulfilled their end of the deal. They never sent the money to the organizations that these consultants did fundraiser for! It is just one of many inconsistencies in how LLR runs their business.

I wonder if legally anyone could hold them to the match? Probably not but that's suuuper shady. People might have donated on the good faith that it would be matched.

It was still a MLM. You knew how shitty MLMs were if not in real life but at least you knew it from here. I think the biggest issue I have is that others were run off the board for being involved in MLM while you and Farmer some how got a pass and it somewhat grates me. I don't give a shit if anyone sells a MLM but it does seem unfair and just because you made money and got out quick enough many didn't andcomibg in here just to find the "tea" sits oddly with me honestly.

Elsa said some shitty stuff about His, right?
And, it was pretty gross for her to prey on Prof when she knew exactly how much of a shit show her life was.
ETA: Lets not pretend that Farmer and Jenny were the only people supporting LLR here. Please, half of the people here were sporting those ugly ass leggings. Jenny and Farmer and a few others just happened to make money off the fug.

They will match but it’s shit. First you have to get it approved and then you have to cell a certain amount during a certain time frame. They they will give ljke $1 for every pair of leggings sold, $2-3 for a dress etc. certainly not enough to make a huge donation.

I assume we're all talking about the same former GBCNer. I just read her post and it's really gross and exploitative. I'm really disappointed in her.

I was going to edit but I am NOT including Elsa or any of those other racists bitchs. There two that I am thinking of specifically. It just irks me to come in here asking for the "tea" and ladada I made money and got out so whatever. If I was part of Enron I wouldn't be coming in here asking about the dirt of Enron.
Elsa bringing Prof onto her team was one of the shittiest things ever. I really hope Prof is doing well and wasn't too affected by the whole thing.
I really can't believe there are still (ex)GBCNers actively selling that shit. The ship is sinking. Save yourself!
Yes, Prof was one that I am specifically speaking of. I was just a lurker at the time but someone asked how she was and it immediately went to " who cares she is a shitty person because she is involved in a MLM." It was bullshit and I really hope she is well.

Jenny and Farmer are problematic for many other reasons. This is just another tick in the box. But please keep defending them.
I see where aliciabella is coming from. TBH I don't remember farmville ever selling but jenny was a very prolific poster at the time and she had a link to her shop in her sig and was hawking her shop like white on rice any time the topic came up. She's a smart, funny, well-liked person and in a way that added to the predatory nature of using this community to better her business. Of course it's a smart strategy, just like a blogger selling something and linking to it often as a "favorite" product, or a commissioned link to Nordstrom or American Eagle. Capitalism baby. We were all part of the game. It definitely changed my opinion of her a bit. Not because I think she's a bad person, just because it was something I thought was out of character based on the online impression I had of her. But really I don't know any of you so does it really matter?

A girl I went to high school sold LLR, and had a "fundraiser" for another girl who we went to high school with who started a not-for-profit to benefit hemophilia after one of her children was diagnosed with it. Her not-for-profit never got a cent despite the fact that so many people went, and bought, only because we thought her not-for-profit was going to benefit.

If you don't name names, than it's unfair to try and drag other people about MLM stuff. There are lots of current and former MLM people still here. MLM bs didn't get anyone run off this board. It may have added extra glee to see them gone though. And frankly, prof wasn't run off this board and I am sure people would welcome her back. She stopped posting for other reasons and the MLM thing was an afterthought for most people.

OMG will someone just fucking say who it is? Is it Brie? She’s the only one I know of who was selling LLR.
