DH and I will have all day Saturday the 15th (until around 4:00 when we have to go to the airport) in Chicago. We are staying in the City Centre area. What should we do? Pizza is on my list, of course.
I bought a packable, long puffer jacket rated to 15 degrees at Nordstrom Rack - you guys are awesome for pointing me in the right direction! It’s Michael Kors and I looove it.
The Walnut Room restaurant for lunch or dinner inside Marshall Fields/Macys/whatever we are calling it these days. When decorated for Christmas it is especially beautiful. The store also has holiday windows macysrestaurants.com/walnut-room/ Be sure to save room for the Frango Mint Chocolate Pie
I also found a list of Christmas pop up bars and one is on the same block as our hotel so we will hit that after the party!
DH is all “let’s shop on Michigan Ave” and I am not excited - I was just there with DD, and I am done shopping! So have to use these to entice him. You guys rock.
I am hoping for no snow and no rain! Weird southerner question - should I plan to wear two pairs of leggings or tights with leggings over on Saturday for outdoor exploring? You guys I don’t want to die!
I tend to stay away from skirts and dresses in the winter for this reason. It’s really weather dependent and if you are the type of person that runs hot or cold. If it is truly 40 and sunny you are probably ok but it is really only that temp for a few hours as mornings and evenings are cooler and being by the water is cooler. If you are walking a lot that could warm you up. If you are terrified of freezing than layer up. I also learned from this group in my famous winter posts that there is such a thing as fleece lined leggings kind of like a sweatshirt for your legs. And sweater tights. I tend to find tights less comfortable than leggings but you might not. My fleece lined leggings is not as comfortable as my standard leggings so no brand to recommend but cozy. So far weather looks ok, but if you are wearing boots (not Texas boots) and a longer coat that helps also. My rule is puffy warm coat for under 40. Wool coat for over 40 to translate that to leg apparel not sure but that’s how I figure cold versus not as cold. Bring hats and gloves.
I am most worried about my feet freezing - I only have tall leather boots that are not warm. I coached a soccer game at freezing in them and couldn’t feel my feet. Literally. So maybe tights and socks. We will be out lunchtime to afternoon so I am hoping that helps! This Fall when I was there I wore too much clothing and was waaaay hot. I hate trying to figure out for weather - like it will be 50 here when I work out but breezy so - I would usually wear shorts and a T but am wearing Capri leggings and layers and hoping for the best.
