I didn't see where in the article the teacher was making the students sing as well. It seems to imply she might have suffered a mental break, and/or may have had previous issues (license suspended twice in 2007 and 2016? Who keeps hiring her?)

It seems that way in the video. And it does seem there were prior issues with the two suspensions. This is a private prep academy so I don't think the background checks are quite as rigorous. People send their kids there because "public schools" that don't allow prayer, are full of "criminals" (read: "rapists and murderers and illegals" because Visalia is deep in the agricultural belt of California and has a steady stream of migrant farmworkers) etc. and obviously private schools are sooo much better than public. There are three *very good* public high schools in Visalia. My nieces attend one of them and my sister teaches in the district.

WOT?*, it depends on who gives them accreditation. If they have one of the better accreditation then they would fully have to do a check on the teacher (I've worked in multiple private schools and had a background check at each one).

You seem to be making a lot of leaps here ... from your post, I thought this was going to be about a white teacher cutting a black student’s hair, not a teacher having a potential mental breakdown.
Not that it’s okay that she did this, but why jump to the conclusion that this has anything to do with making a MAGA statement? (I’m not here to argue about whether she is or isn’t a Trump supporter, just that she may have picked a song at random — and as a teacher, it could have just as likely been stuck in her head from morning assembly — and this wasn’t necessarily politically-motivated.)
It seems like, from what we know so far, this story is more about teacher background checks and/or mental health than what you posted.
Also, while it’s true that the Central Valley is Trump turf, it’s a bit misleading to say the “vast majority” of California is red when the “vast majority” you’re talking about encompasses mostly unpopulated and rural areas, including deserts with some of the hottest temps in the country, mountains with some of the highest peaks in the lower 48 and wide swaths of agricultural areas.
I went to a private prep school. There was a rule that our shirts had to be tucked in. There was one student that never tucked her shirt in. The (male) teacher got pissed, grabbed the stapler, chased her across the room and then stapled her shirt to her pants. It was nuts.
I feel bad for the students and the teacher. She should obviously not be teaching. And hopefully she gets whatever mental health help she needs. She clearly does not need to be around children.
I had a 5th grade French teacher who would throw chalk at us if we conjugated verbs incorrectly. I always assumed he got away with it because 1) it was a private school and 2) the headmaster was a military douchebag.
Ugh. I finally watched it and I feel terrible. The students were genuinely scared of her. The student was saying “No, Ms. G.” In my opinion, calling a teacher by an initial indicates a student likes their teacher, like a nickname. “No, Ms. G” sounds like the student is trying to call her back to her senses. That teacher just really, really seemed sick. I found that video really upsetting.
This school is not a private school - it’s a charter school - still a public school. Appears to be a magnet school that operates on the campus of, and in conjunction with, the local community college.

Yeah, this does not seem related to her politics and what a weird attempt to connect them. Her students are saying this was totally out of character. Those poor kids fled her room when she wanted another kid to give a haircut.
Hit delete instead of edit (shit happens when you're awake in the middle of the night. And dadblame it I almost did it again (twice now! I keep hitting that wheel thing) trying to figure out how to repost or move this to the top where it belonged in the first place.)
I shouldn't have made it Trump related here but there were a lot of folks that were making it "California liberals at it again" elsewhere and I brought that here. I shouldn't have done so. The teacher obviously had some sort of mental break and I'm still holy crapping. I have no idea how she got this far without someone seeing that something was going on. It couldn't have been just overnight but something building up. Since it's my hometown, and I have some not-so-fond memories of the schools (some good ones as well, to be fair, but I had some pretty awful teachers) it hit right in the solar plexus.
