I’m stuck on how to finish our bedroom. I know we need lamp, a wider dresser for the tv and some kind of art between the windows. DH doesn’t think we need curtains (the blinds have a blackout lining) but maybe that would help it look more finished? Idk I’m terrible at this kind of thing!

Definitely hang art, mount the TV, hang the mirror (if that's leaning against the wall in the first picture). I personally love curtains on windows. Might also consider updating your bedding/getting some throw pillows and a throw blanket.
i kind of feel like swapping your furniture around. bed between the two windows, move the dresser to the wall opposite of the bed. new bedding perhaps.

I agree with this! Your windows being so close to the perpendicular wall limit curtain choices but I think they bed there can detract from that
I feel like that room is crying out for an accent color on the wall with two windows, in a dark blue that matches the carpet. The white blinds would pop rather than blend in. Add sheer curtains and it would look totally different.
I like a nice, white, airy look for bedrooms, and then using soothing colors and patterns to accent. I like the idea of moving your bed so that the two windows frame it. It's more symmetrical that way. I'd be tempted to do cloud gray walls, add white sheers to your windows. Do a blue/white patterned bed spread and some throw pillows in shades of gray and blue. I would mount the TV rather than having it take up dresser space. We have a long painting above our headboard, but also like wedding picture galleries in the bedroom.
I love some of these ideas but was hoping for cheaper answers!
Unfortunately, If we move the bed we have no place for the TV since it won’t fit on the wall with the mirror (closet door would hit it) and I won’t be able to see the kids in the yard from bed. Both things that we want as they will be immensely helpful with a newborn.
For reference - the door on the left is to the hallway, door in the middle is to the closet, mirror is 30” wide and the door to the right is the bathroom.
It's a nice room. You have a lot to work with there so don't worry. It will come in time.
Can you move the TV/dresser to the bed wall, and move the bed to the TV/dresser wall? You could still see into the backyard then.
That is a good reminder. We have been in this house for a little over 3 months but it feels like ages! Honestly I’m struggling that we had to buy a starter house again and are slowly filling it like it was our first house. I don’t feel judged but don’t like how unfinished things are 😔
If we switched the dresser and the bed, woukdnt that block the room off because you would walk into the bed from the hall door?
Are you envisioning being home with a newborn in bed while watching your older children through the window? With all due respect, how often will that really happen such that arranging your room in a less convenient way is worth it?
You can get these for the closet door so that it only opens to 90 degrees or a little wider, thus eliminating the door opening into the TV issue.

A) Frequently, as I do it daily now. I don't sleep but its nice to have a comfy space to sit. I can see them in 90% of the backyard and 100% of all the "they need extra supervision spots". B) I haven't seen those and love them!
Cool. I have those hinge things on several of my doors (my house is a Cape Cod so lots of odd ceilings and walls).
I think some curtains hung high could do a lot to make the space look finished. Since you have shades for function, you don't need particularly expensive curtains or rods. IKEA has great ones for less and you can hem with stitch witchery to get to your desired length. Relatively plain so you don't have to deal with patterns looking wonky at the corner. I do not work for IKEA. Lol.
I had the same hinge recommendation as cville. We have them in a few places in our house, and they’re great! If the dresser fits in that space, I think I’d move it there. It kind of makes logical sense there, since you can grab your clothes right outside of the bathroom door. You could also mount the TV on the wall (if possible), then use the top of the dresser to add some accessories and color.
I’d skip curtains because of the limited space next to the window. We have the same spacing in our house. I looked for options, but all were either super expensive or required a little more space than what we have.
I would put up at least one oversized piece of art in the room. If you move the dresser between the doors, I’d put a huge piece at the foot of your bed (check IKEA), and then a non-picture hanging with some texture between your windows. I think an accent wall would also look great in there! Try the darkest color in your rug and look at a few shades deeper than that (if it’s more of a Navy than a royal blue...I’m not sure of the colors in the picture). Or for a calmer feel, you could do the whole room in the lightest color from the rug.
I love your rug & I think you can make this room look great with very little money.

I'm definitely going to get some of those hinge things for other parts of our 1940s house.
Yay ikea! I need to go for a crib anyways and think we may have some of their white ritva curtains in the garage. Although I do like the idea of adding some color to the walls with curtains.
I have been debating moving the 3 drawer hemnes dresser into the baby room and getting the grey 8 drawer hemnes dresser for our room.

I can't tell how many feet you have from basically the bathroom door to the closest nightstand, or how far from the hallway door to where your first nightstand (closest to the door) would be if you switched walls.
BUT, if you like the bed on that wall (and it is fine there), don't move the bed.
Is there any kind of chest or bench that you can put at the end of the bed (where you have the bed now)?
Also, my husband HATES lots of pillows on the bed but YOUR BED is just asking for a few pillows - even 2 regular-sized ones for each of you (so, 4 total) and maybe a 5th, decorative one in the middle? Can you shop your house and see what you might already have?
Didn't @laz one time linked to some cheap pillow covers? I think she used to change hers out frequently and she just ordered covers from Amazon (like for the square, decorative pillows).
Like a PP said, I think sheers would look beautiful on your windows. I bet our IKEA rep cville knows they have them there, too, for cheap. Once you hung sheers you'd have a lot less wall in between the 2 windows to fill with art and would have a better sense of scale of what to shop the house for or buy new.
Also, there are cheap, nice frames oftentimes at places like Goodwill. You can get art from online somewhere, like Etsy or the like for not too much money.
It really is a good room. My bedroom could fit INSIDE your bedroom (house is 95 years old) so I love all your space, your beautiful windows, and there is so much potential there, and it certainly doesn't look bad at all with what you have done.

I was going to recommend a bigger dresser, but didn’t know if you wanted to spend the money. I think the 8 drawer dresser would be perfect in there! Switching that out and adding art between the two windows may actually be all you need to make a huge difference.
renna -I am open to finding a bench for the end of the bed. Right now there is about 3 feet between the bed and the dresser so there is room. -I should have made the bed properly but we have 2 white full sized pillows, 2 navy full sized pillows and 1 orangey (like in the rug) square accent pillow.
Thank you for the reassurance. I love that we saved an old house (the other potential buyers wanted to knock it down like so many in our neighborhood) but am frustrated that we have had to spend money on repairs that you can't see!
What do you guys think of black curtain rods? Or should I do something that blends in?

Ideally I spend $500 but would be ok with a bit more (yay Christmas money). The dresser has been a good place holder but definitely isn't quite right.

Oooh, I bet the bed looks so cool with all the pillows! Nicely done! And it's fine that you didn't make the bed with all the pillows. You're asking for help. None of us care.
I know that cville has an old house, too. I think jenny1980 does also? There are a few of us old house lovers out there. I am glad you have one, too. Also, for what it's worth, we have been in our house for 19 years now - our "starter" house. We just love the house. I would have a hard time leaving here. I could, but I would miss our built-in buffet and 9-inch baseboards and crown molding and all that. Man, I would miss a lot about this house.
But I would love a new house with more closet space. That might help take the sting out of the move, if we were to move.
I think I’d skip curtains since the windows are all so close to the walls and the shades are up to the ceiling.
I would center the bed on that wall if you can, even if it means blocking the window a bit with the nightstand. Add a three piece photo set above the bed, definitely art on the wall between the windows, grey hemnes dresser, and a clock or more photos on the right side of the tv wall.
Our master is pretty similarly laid out and I recently used Modsy to get design ideas and my suggestions are mostly copying from that lol. Here’s a link to my post about it with pics for inspiration.

No, I will not sleep with you.
Everything has been pretty much covered. I would paint it an elephant grey, move the bed between the windows. Hang curtains and tv and get new bedding. I love all the light and the windows! Easy fixes. Probably can be down for under 100 bucks.
