Congratulations, he's adorable! I hope he's out of the NICU soon.
I'm partial to baby boys born about 8 days late and right before a scheduled induction. Mine was 9lbs, 11oz and 22 3/4 inches long. Everyone always said he looked more like he was already a month old, because he was just so big. But it was really pretty nice. He ate more and slept a little better I think. And he felt less fragile and breakable to me, even though I didn't realize it at the time. When I had my daughter, she was 7.5lbs and she felt so tiny. I was glad I got to ease into motherhood with a newborn relying on me that was a little more solid, lol.
Yayayayaayayayay congratulations!!!! I’m so happy for you guy! What an adorable procrastinator- he got his foot over the classroom door threshold just as the bell was ringing! Lol.
You will be telling people he was 9lbs 12oz for eternity. You will find a way to drop it into conversation because it will never not be insane. Source: child was 9lb 8oz
As the mom of another close to 10lber, I remind him all the time that the doctor created an exit for him bc of his size, like the Kool-Aid man crashing through a wall. 😂 He’s only 2.5 (and closing in on 40lb/40”) but I’m obviously not stopping any time soon.
My oldest was over 10lbs. I agree with eclaires, a big baby has lots of perks! I felt like we missed the squishy newborn phase and didn’t even get the traditional newborn pics because he already looked a month old. (Pro-tip...don’t do that.) The baby side of a newborn might have been a little easier, but my recovery was a little longer. Do NOT listen to the moms of 7 pounders (or even “big” 8 pound babies) talking about going for a walk when baby was a week old. Recover at your own pace and be patient with yourself & your body!
I hope he’s able to leave the NICU soon. When DS1 was born, he had to spend a day in the “Special Care Nursery” (they had a step-down for NICU) for rapid breathing. The nurses told me it was pretty common for big babies. They typically regulate themselves pretty quickly and have no lasting issues from it. He waited until the final 15 minutes of the window of “normal” recovery & then he was good to go! I hope it’s the same for your little one!
So sweet! Congrats. Big babies are usually good sleepers, so I hope you are blessed in that department. My DS was 9lb 8oz and slept awesome most of the time
What a beautiful baby boy! Congratulations to you and your H, WTF. He is such a cutie. Thank you for letting us walk through your life with you from dating to engagement to wedding to new house to BABY. He's awesome and so are you!

Congratulations! DS2 was a 9 pounder and in the NICU for a week. One huge plus was that his umbilical cord was largely healed by the time we got home. I don't know why, but I thought that was just awesome at the time. All the nurses in the NICU called him "the big baby" and they had to reset some of the monitors because he had such different issues than the really small babies.
Having a baby in the NICU can be stressful, but in my experience they have a lot of support for parents. I didn't take advantage of all our NICU had to offer because we ended up being a relatively short stay, but I was so glad to see how the hospital reached out to make sure I was doing ok mentally.

Agreed. Source: 12 lb 3 oz *early* baby! 😳 The anesthesiologist said “that’s not a baby, that’s a toddler!” Hahaha.
