Our kitchen space is similar to the picture below with a slanted ceiling with a light fixture not centered above the table area. We currently have a pendant fixture in the area that the previous owners chose. It drives me crazy because it’s not centered. I don’t like the offset track bar in the picture below but was thinking maybe one like this fixture would work and we could turn the side light bars to be more over the table. We want something bright and very modern in style. What would you put there?

Maybe a stupid question, but would you be happier just paying to move the fixture over? I know you'd have to patch the ceiling and all, but I feel like you'd be happier with the result, and you can get something that is a pendant style and very modern and impactful.

I’ve considered that. It’s just seems harder for a nominal difference. And idk if the sloped ceiling makes it harder or something or why they put it there to begin with. We can replace the fixture ourselves. The other stuff would require hiring people.
Haha! I had a feeling you might come back and say that. Lighting manufacturers recognize the need for this type of lighting and have evolved their fixtures to meet the need; so you won't end up with something dated.
Here are some examples (sorry for the jumbo pics):
The lights I posted were not suggestions, fyi, only images showing how they've evolved. Don't worry about the swag part, especially if it's only a cotton wrapped in corn. If it were some slinky velveteen thing, then I would run. Also, maybe try searching "contemporary" instead of "modern" as "modern" really does mean (design-wise) 1930ish-1970ish).
