Movies: Sandlot (a comingof age baseball movie that’s my fav) Leap (a cartoon about a poor girl who goes to ballet school in Paris by pretending to be a rich girl... all about following your passion and working hard)
Books: Chicken Squad series (these are hilarious early chapter books) Lego Superhero 5 minute bedtime stories (my DD reads them to her brother and they both love them) Any book by Sandra Boynton
Love all the Branches books (Haggis and Tank, Owl Diaries, Eerie Elementary, the game one, etc) for early readers.
While I clean a cabinet DS is stumbling through the I Survived ... Pearl Harbor. All three of my kids have liked the historical immersive fiction series. ETA like Dear America.
We have been reading DogMan recently....which is fine because DS really likes reading them to me and practicing reading them. Although they have lots of gross humor.
I have a bunch in the Friday thread for movies. Mighty Ducks, Because of Winn Dixie, Fly Away Home, Dolphin Tale, Goonies, Home Alone. Because of Goonies we've managed to segway into the National Treasure movies- a bit more scary action but not too bad. The one on the robotics competition is pretty good for older kids- Spare Parts.
Books: Princess in Black series for Kindergarten. DS also likes the I Survived series. Magic Tree House for 1st grade. Lots of sports non fiction going on over here.
DD1 (9) - Harry Potter, whatever after series, Humphrey series, babysitters club (old books, not graphic novels). I’ve been trying to get them to watch The Sandlot without success.
DD2 (almost 6) - we’ve been reading Cam Jansen mysteries together, along with Clementine series, Ramona, Nate the Great. She likes the old Little House TV series.

This isn't a movie, but my kids love the "Who Was" show on Netflix. Kids do little sketches about historical figures. It's kind of a comedy but with true facts in there. I've learned stuff too - like I didn't know that Ben Franklin was a pioneer of synchronized swimming!
Books: New early reader favorite of DD's: Tales of Sasha by Alexa Pearl Magic School Bus (Branches) Ivy and Bean Pony Pals Boxcar Children Magic Treehouse Golly Sisters
Movies: How to Train Your Dragon, 2nd Chance, Wild Kratt (feature movies), Lion King, Incredibles, Dolphin Tale, Mirror Mirror, Bing Crosby's White Christmas, SING, Cars, Minions, Full Out, Raising the Bar, Mary Poppins (original). We tried Maleficent but DD listened from the hall. She does the same thing with live action Beauty and Beast (she will only watch certain parts of it).

My DD loves this show too! Lotta kid humor but she’s definitely learning things.
DD (8, 2nd grade) is all about My Weird School and The Who Was series right now. She liked Dogman at the beginning of the school year but seems mostly over them now. Last year in 1st she liked Bad Guys and Press Start.
She isn’t a big movie fan. She is loving old Mickey and Minnie cartoons right now. She’s obsessed with anything Mickey Mouse.

DS likes the 'I Survived' and 'Who Would Win' books. He also likes non-fiction books by NFL football players - he's finished one by Nick Foles and is reading one by Drew Brees.
DD likes reading 'Princess Black,' 'Clementine,' and 'Magic Treehouse' books. She likes for me to read to her American Girl books and the 'Whatever After' books.
Both kids like the 'Dog Man' series.
DD still watches kid/family movies. I wouldn't say she has a particular favorite right now. DS likes kid/family movies as well, but also likes the Avengers, Jurassic World, and Transformers movies.

Are the Allie Finkle Rules for Girls books still a thing at all or have kids moved on from her?
My niece used to read those and I casually picked one up and then I ended up reading a bunch of them. Such empowering books for girls!!! I never hear anyone recommend them anymore though.

We found a great book series - Zoey and Sassafras. It's about a little girl and her cat and how they solve mysteries and help magical creatures by using scientific knowledge. DS loves it.
We watched Fly Me to the Moon last night, about 3 flies who go to the moon on Apollo 11. My kids loved it. They were so crazy about it, we watched it a second time this morning. Tonight we watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. It was cute, but I hate when a movie has nothing to do with the book it was named after. (Also my beef with Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.)
2chatter, we own it. DH has a weird collection of DVDs. Can you see if your library has it. It looks like you can watch it on the You Tube channel. Amazon is a nope.
Books: my 7 year old is really into The Junie B 1st grader series and the Amelia Bedila chapter books. My 10 YO is reading Secret Garden. Her favorite books are the Dork Diaries and BSC graphic novels. She wants to start Harry Potter next.
Movies: My girls love The BFG, Beethoven, Beauty and the Beast
madringal, DD 7 is reading the 1st Harry Potter book right now and doesn't want to put it down. If you can get it in large print from the library it is great. That took all the intimidation of tiny print and no pictures away.
186momx, IDK - my 7 year old is probably a better reader then my 10 year old, but I don't know that I am ready for her to read them yet. Our friends have offered to lend us their copies with is the whole collection but with color pictures, which I think is super cool, but I think I am going to give it a few years still.
