My doctor allowed me to schedule an elective induction on my due date since my family is going out of town and I needed someone available for my 2 year old.
When I was admitted I was 3cm and 80% effaced. Pitocin was started around 830-9 and tolerable contractions started soon after. I got my epidural placed around 11, I think. Doctor came in at 12 to break my water and I was now 4cm dilated.
Things progressed very quickly after that! My epidural was patchy and I was still having a lot of pain. While the doctor tried to adjust the pain medicine, baby started struggling during contractions and my blood pressure was low. At dome point around 2 I was checked again and was 6cm. They had me turning from side to side and on oxygen. My pain was finally under control but I was having a ton of unbearable pressure. Checked again at 3 and I was 10cm, so went from 6-10 in an hour. The urge to push was so intense that they brought in a different doctor to have in the room while we waited for mine to arrive. I pushed for 15 minutes and he was born at 3:26pm on 1/22/19.
Baby Luca was huge at 9lbs 1oz and 21 inches long! We are monitoring his blood sugar since he’s a big guy but otherwise doing well! I’ll edit to attach a picture soon!
Congratulations!! Glad labor went fairly quickly. I’m sorry it took awhile for the epidural to work well; that’s the worst. Take care & hope you are home soon.
Congratulations! Sounds like a great and FAST induction, other than the patchy epidural. Very little frustrates me more than when my patient is hurting through her epidural and there's so little I can do about it.
Thanks everyone! Unfortunately I ended up getting a spinal headache from my epidural so I’m waiting for anesthesia to get here to assess and make a plan.
