1. How far along are you this week? 31 weeks today
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? My gestational diabetes has been under control with metformin for most of my pregnancy, but the last week or so I am high after dinner, or in the morning when I wake up. I'm frustrated, but I also know that i'm not on the highest dose of meds, so I'm wondering if they will up my dosage. That would put me at the max though.
3. Questions for the group? None today
4. What does your ideal family size look like? Are you and your partner in agreement? Well, we had agreed on 2 kids, but DH says we are one and done now. His reasoning is that we are old (we are) and he's worried about being able to afford 1 kid, so how the hell would we do it with 2? I'm not ready to make that decision, but being high risk has made me lean a little more toward his thinking. There's always fostering/adopting, right?
1. 21 weeks 2. Going a little crazy thinking about the timing of birth. OB wants to induce one week early - given my delivery history and size of babies. I am totally on board with this and the timing is perfect. If baby comes earlier than that it will require lots of last minute logistical changes with my other two kids, parents, DH. 3. None at the moment 4. This is number three and definitely our last. Given our ages and age gap of kids I don’t think we would go for four. Also with previous losses we feel very blessed and lucky we’ve made it this far with #3.
FishChicks, definitely talk it over with your OB to put your mind at ease. Hopefully they'll stay put and it won't even be a concern, but better to know what to expect and have some peace of mind.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I am finally feeling normal after having back pain for a few weeks. I hope this sticks around for at least another month or longer. I also think baby turned head down over the weekend! I am also questioning if I am starting to lose parts of my mucus plug. It is some different looking discharge then I've had all pregnancy. If I see the same thing today I'm going to give my doctor a call because my next appointment isn't until next week. Between that and the baby being head down it suddenly occurred to me that baby could come at any time...then I read about all these early deliveries! Wow!
3. Questions for the group?
4. What does your ideal family size look like? Are you and your partner in agreement? I would love two children. My husband agrees. Although, I truly think it finances were better we'd probably both agree to 3 as well.
icedcoffee For what it's worth, Panorama tried to pull that crap with me, too, even though they are in-network. My insurance went after Panorama and got them to correctly resumbit/bill!
That’s good to know. Mines through Counsyl(Myriad). I’m hoping they at least bill it as in network so I don’t need to hit the out of network deductible. I’d still need to hit the in network deductible but I plan to hit tbat this year anyway.
I’m sorry you’re starting to have contractions. I hope they can keep those babies cooking a little longer!
I had genetic testing done this summer through Counsyl (not related to pregnancy) and also got slapped with an out of network bill, even after they sent me an email with an estimate before proceeding with testing the sample, showing $20 patient responsibility (my usual copay) and the 4-figure balance to my particular insurance carrier. Sigh. We were able to negotiate them just taking the $20 without too much trouble but it was a very WTF process.

1) 21 weeks and a couple of days 2) I was really hoping we'd have a name figured down by now, but we've got a list of five names that we can't seem to narrow down any further. Other than that, not much going on here. Just waiting until the fetal echo in two weeks. Maybe after that I'll start thinking about normal birthing/pregnancy/childcare issues. The measles outbreak is starting to reach this area, and I had a brief panic yesterday when I found out I was in the same room at the same time as a kid with the measles a week ago. Just got off the phone triple-checking my MMR vaccination history and current antibody levels. Ugh, measles or rubella while pregnant can cause fatal fetal heart defects...I was questioned a lot with the last pregnancy if I had come down with either while pregnant. I'm so pissed at parents not vaccinating their kids right now. 4) Ideal family size? Gah, that's a loaded question. Ideal would be two kids with our daughter here with us now. After that loss and the six years of prior infertility, ideal family size has turned into whatever we can get.
Had my OB appointment this morning. Tomorrow is my first shift back to work after the scare, and it will be a trial period. If my medication can keep my contractions slowed down tomorrow, I can continue working. But if they pick up again over the next day or two, I'll be put on bed rest. I have another appointment next week. And since I'm so close to 34 weeks (on Thursday), no steroids at this point.
OMG I leave for work for two days and THREE people have babies? Ya'll are serious about the baby dust. Congrats ivy, toutsuite and UMaineTeach !!!
FishChicks, you tell those babies to listen to their momma and stay put.
1. How far along are you this week? 21w3d today.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? We got the crib up this last weekend and made beautiful progress in the nursery. My back pain is starting to worse (I have a vertebral slip of my L5 so preexisting) and I booked a chiro apt for tomorrow. He was recommended by both my Doula team and my OB, so hoping he's able to help.
3. Questions for the group? Anyone else seeing a chiro?
4. What does your ideal family size look like? Are you and your partner in agreement? We always said we would be OAD. Then it took us four years to get pregnant and of COURSE now I'm a little sad we never had a chance to change our mind. Maybe we'll adopt (we now EACH get $12K in adoption benefits from our employer so we could definitely afford it) or maybe we won't. We'll see. So yes, we're both in agreement that we are going to love the hell out of this little guy and see where our hearts lead us in a year or two.

What med do they have you on for contractions? I've been told there's nothing safe to stay on after 48 hours.

Vistaril aka Atarax aka hydroxyzine. It's an antihistamine that is actually an anti-anxiety med, but also relaxes the uterine muscle. It's used off-label as a tocolytic.
Another med used long term to slow/stop contractions is Procardia aka nifedipine. It's actually a blood pressure medication, but the way it works is to decrease the force of contractions (in the heart and in the uterus). Again, off-label.
These meds are off-label only because it is considered unethical to test the meds on pregnant women in randomized controlled trials to get them approved by the FDA.

FishChicks , I had my daughter at 24 weeks. I had an emergency c-section under general, so I saw her briefly after I woke up from surgery (they wheeled me in my bed to her room), then I rode in a wheelchair for couple of days. After that I slooooowly walked up to see her, which probably helped with my recovery. I took mostly advil but also something a little stronger at night, and still pumped. Breast milk is really important for preemies so they will really encourage you to pump. Get loose pants and slip on shoes in case your feet swell up. Don't eat a million saltines like I did, heh.
Sending good thoughts that they stay put as long as they can!
I think part of my problem is that it's not even because I'm worried about what's going to happen so much as being worried I can't handle the pain. I am a big pain wuss and it just seems so scary! I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for that "so uncomfortable I don't care" point to happen before I go into labor 😂
I've had plenty of patients get their epidurals well before they're actually in pain. That is totally an option at my hospital and something you can probably request.
I'm a huge wuss too and requested my epidural about 1.5 hour after my waters spontaneously broke in the hospital. It was glorious.
The hospital I deliver at will place the epidural whenever, I got them each time I went in for an induction, but not dose it until I called for meds. It was the best! I got to be calm and not in pain when they placed it (not being able to sit still was a huge concern of mine) and I called when I couldn’t handle the pain- 4cm with dd1 and 7cm with dd2. I plan on doing the same thing this time, assuming I get induced again.
Going to a coworkers house at lunch tomorrow to go through her baby stuff. She has 3, with large spreads like mine, and wants to give it away now that her youngest is one. I’m so excited and thankful for all of her generosity.
This is #3 and we are done done done. We were on the fence about a second, then went with it, and were on the fence for a third and obviously went for it.
pooh8402 and FishChicks , I've been thinking of you, and I'm keeping everything crossed that your babies stay put until it's the right time for them to come out.

Thank you, this is super helpful. We also had our NICU tour last night and they confirmed that I can come visit even in a hospital bed, so I feel so much better. They also said the social worker would help sort out a breast pump for us, so that’s another relief. Keeping them in for a few more months would be best, but the knowledge is calming.
1. How far along are you this week? 16w today, yikes!
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? People I know at work (not the therapists I work with directly daily, more like our registration staff) have started giving me the "is she or isn't she?" looks. One of them asked my coworker if I'm pregnant because I think they're afraid of whatever smartass response I'd give
4. What does your ideal family size look like? Are you and your partner in agreement? We've always planned on having two kids, even before we got engaged. We (okay, more me) were on the fence about being OAD there for a little bit but not seriously, and are definitely done after 2.0 is born. I think J has come to terms that he IS getting a vasectomy, so that helps

I did my blood draws for the NIPT test. We will find out the results in 2 weeks and I’m already anxious to know. They have to send it to the US for them to test there.
I got my NIPT back yesterday. It's a HEALTHY boy! I'll admit I wanted a girl and am mourning that, but the idea is settling in and I am so happy he's healthy. I've been looking at pics of cute brothers and cute matching boy clothes and it's helping the idea settle. I am so glad I found out early this time so I could process (we were team green with DS1).
ETA: Remind me that I was happy to find out early when I get a bill for this bloodtest 6 months from now.
icedcoffee yay for brothers! Even though I'm very excited for another boy, I still have a twinge of sadness about not having a girl. FWIW, I just got the EOB for my NIPT and it shows $175 for me. No bill yet, and with my first insurance paid nothing and neither did I. It's all a racket as far as I can tell.
I've decided that Dean is the perfect name, but it doesn't work with our last name

Yeah--I'm mostly sad I won't have an adult relationship with a girl. But maybe my sister will have a girl and then I can just steal her and give her back when I'm done (my sister is TTC her first right now).
The estimate we got from Counsyl says the lab is out of network and I'll be responsible for the full $695 because I haven't hit my $750 out of network deducible, but when I search the lab's name on Cigna's website it says it's in network so I don't understand. Unless the "women's health" division is separate and actually out of network. I have no idea. I really hope they at least bill it as in network so it goes toward my in network deductible instead (which I haven't hit either, but is only $500 and I will for sure hit it this year). Who knows. It is such a racket.
Names are going to be IMPOSSIBLE for us for a boy. I did get H to kind of agree on my #2 choice, but I kind of like my #1 choice better. Ugh...I don't know.

icedcoffee, my H and his brother are like 3 years apart and it’s seriously so cute watching them together. My H is good friends with all of his brother’s friends and they have such a great relationship. I feel like brothers always bond easier than sisters (my sister is 4 years older). Congratulations!

Also ours is costing €425, which is painful too.
I love stories like this! My H and his brother don't really like each other all that much so it's nice to hear that it is possible for brothers to get along.

At least you have a #1 lol! H has pretty much said it's my choice (of the names he also agrees on) and I'm totally paralyzed. I really need to just pick something at this point.

Their relationship has made me so envious because of how close they are, despite living so far apart from each other. They call each other and talk at least 1-2 times a week. They were also both groomsmen in their friends wedding, which I think speaks volumes to how they grew up and how close they are. It’s nice because when my BIL and SIL visit, we can all hang out together since they share friends.
