We had an action packed weekend. I stayed out too late Friday night - but I couldn't pass up a ride home so I could have a few drinks and I had a ball. Saturday I cooked all day for our soup cookoff on Sunday and to make appetizers for the game later that night. DS and a few of his friends came back to our house to play pool after the game while I stayed at the party. When I got home, someone had eaten a my bananas which I bought for breakfast this week, my couch was scooted a foot back and someone had messed up DD's bed and spilled some water in her room and she was pissed. I didn't even go in the basement and told DS he better get it straight before I see it. Usually I don't have any trouble with these boys, but there were a couple of extra in the group. I told DS if he couldn't contain his guest, I don't trust them in the house without me - I was a 1/2 mile away.
Vent - This better be the end of Sunday night Volleyball. Our town pretty much closes by 6 on Sunday. The local coffee shop is closed - I don't want to sit at Starbucks for 2 hours- the library is closed, the walking tracks at the Baptist church is closed. I have nothing to occupy my time at that time of day and it is not worth it to go back home 25 minutes one way. I really don't need to shop during every practice. I am toying with the idea of joining planet fitness to occupy my time if this keeps up at least until it is warmer and time changes.
It's another snow day.....they called it last night for both kids. We were supposed to get 8+ inches of snow, but its only about 4, which does not merit a snow day. As usual, the university if open, which is fine. But I struggle to understand why the university owned and operated daycare is closed. Thankfully my MIL is coming over to hang out with the kids, and DH was handling them after I left until she gets here. We live somewhere that gets tons of snow. It looks like the schools might also close Tuesday and Wednesday for cold days, -25 without windchill.....not like I actually wanted to get work done...
phdmomma, A dusting here constitutes a snow day. Our wind chill Wednesday is supposed to be -10. I am interested to see if they will do anything for that.

We also have another snow day. Friday was due to slick roads, today (called off last night) is due to a forecast of 8-12" by the end of the day. DH and I are WFH as police are asking people to stay off the roads unless they absolutely need to travel. We'll probably have another school day off on Wednesday if the wind chills are as low as they are forecasting.
Weekend was pretty low key. I got groceries Friday night in anticipation of bad weather starting on Sunday. MIL came over for lunch on Saturday for DD's birthday. Sunday was church and then small group in the early evening.
Worked out at 4:45am even though I almost talked myself out of it and all three of my friends bailed. Glad I went.
Cleaned both DD’s rooms - over a dozen trash bags, tons of clothes to hand down and sell, new IKEA desk to get oldest ready for home bound school, organized clothes and it’s amazing the difference.
I’m letting stupid little things interrupt my forward motion on the big, priority, strategic things. Hoping it’s just today.
Airrosti for the first time this afternoon - hoping they can fix me!
rere, The official guidelines here for cold closings are -35 without windchill or -45 with windchill. Which is pretty cold. The high for Wednesday is -11. I live in the upper midwest, this isn't that much snow for us. The plows started coming through last night, and the roads are snowpack, but fine. Although this is the time of year that I miss when I used to live in South Carolina for grad school.
The weekend was OK, minus the great paint catastrophe which DH still never figured out. I figure if we have a cold day then I will sand and paint then again.
DS's room looks phenomenal. I have 0 expectations he will keep it that way, but it looks amazing. DD and I were inspired to do her room. We got a lot of crap out, but there is still more to do in her room as well- mostly her closet at this point. I think I can move her blankets to the other side of her bed (captains bed with drawers) and clean out that part more and sleeping bag in the camping equipment area.
DH bought 2 hook things for them and hung them up in DS's room to show off his sports ribbons and baseball hats. It looks so good. Pinewood Derby is over yay and DS got 4th so that is awesome! Mostly that it is over. Low of -24 here and high of -14 on Wednesday. I really hope they cancel school. -50 with the windchill.
I live far enough south where even the mention of the S word will send people running to the grocery days in advance for the bread and milk and as soon as starts, people start running into the ditches.
waverly - I got under middle’s captains bed. OMG. Unreal. Things just slide down there. Pillows, books, dolls/animals, tons of papers, wrappers, pens, kleenexes, it was insane. DH opened the door really quickly and my legs were sticking out from under the bed and the force about half rolled me over, I tried to raise up from the shock and banged my head and shoulders and I still feel a little like I want to kill him. He’s just too freaking intense lately.
Sleepover went really well on Friday night. Lights off by 9:20 and silence by 9:40. M's mom was really shocked they didn't get called as this was M's first non relative sleepover and she just had her first successful sleepover over winter break at gram's house. They were up by 7:30 and played until 11 when M's mom came to get her. Then DD completely melted down over getting dressed, eating lunch, everything. I ended up having her lay down for a while and we all ended up napping. I had zombie dead nap for 3 hours.
Sunday I got to go out alone for about 4 hours. It was really nice to wander stores and not be stressed or have DD whining to go. Downside was nothing got done at home so I still had to clean house and clean up the bathroom from giving the dog a bath.
I’m now firmly in the NAY camp. Two of DD’s procedures were sent out for labs that are not in network. Was just told that while they planned to send to in network labs and that’s why when I confirmed I was told it was okay, “sometimes these things change”. Yeah, $2400 says eff you and your changes, hospital.

This was my old bed. Our former neighbor growing up made it. It's all plywood, so super heavy and not my favorite, but nothing gets under the bed, and I love the storage for small rooms. They would have the push it out of the drawers in the back for things to get under there. Maybe I should look.... But between the wall and the bed is another story- it is full of everything, and WTF to your H taking you out like that. If one hits resistance then slow down.

2chatter, I'm sorry, that sucks. My state has introduced legislation that I'm hoping passes regarding doctors and hospitals surprising people with out of network charges.
supertrooper1 - I’m about to lose my mind that this is even a thing. It’s happened before but this would seriously hit our OOP max for the year. Instead, I will be paying and it won’t count toward the OOP. I’m so mad.

If I recall correctly, we are in the same state. I can't believe school was canceled for today.
callmekd, Wisconsin? It's crazy because with MLK day last week, a friday grading day, and then one snow day last week, my son had two days of school. Now they have called off today, but the next two days may be too cold for the kids, which makes sense, when it gets dangerously cold and kids have to wait at the bus stop. But this is getting a bit ridiculous, we didn't get enough snow to warrant closing, particularly because they may close the schools more this week.
My work just closed for Wed. I am guessing schools will close, if not maybe I just keep them home anyway. I really wish I could have called in a grandparent and gone to Buenos Aires with DH (he went for work), but they would have had to shovel snow, and aren't on the list for school communications and then with the cold day, it just wouldn't have worked very well. He keeps texting me pictures- so jealous.
On Saturday, we went to a cider house for a tour. The kids liked it and I got enough free hard cider samples to get a good buzz. And they had pizza that was really good. I'm calling it a win. On Sunday, we went grocery shopping and hung out at the house. Today, DD had her first therapy appointment for ADD. The therapist is wonderful and I like her approach to helping DD. The plan is to start building her toolbox for coping with ADD and see how she does for the rest of this school year. We'll start to build a 504 plan to implement in middle school next year, if it is needed.
I have a feeling school will be delayed or cancelled for Wed, Thur, or both due to the frigid temps that are coming (single digits to below zero, with a wind chill below zero). DD's school hasn't used their built in snow days yet, so it won't set them back.

I got the email today from the hiring center to start my new job next Monday. I requested to start on the 19th instead because it works better for me, I need to train my replacement and my trainer for the new job will be on leave the first week. I spoke to my new supervisor and she said no, since it will take a week to get my new accesses. So now she and my supervisor are going back and forth. It shouldn't be this complicated.

I worked 60 hours last week and had the pinewood derby for cub scouts Saturday so I’m exhausted. Yesterday we went whale watching and saw a lot of grey whales so that was amazing.
This week I’m hoping to work less and get to enjoy my sister being here more. We are making whole 30 meals as she does it for medical reasons and so far they’ve been tasty.
I'm having a crazy Monday. 3 hours left and I feel like I've hardly gotten anything done. The phones are crazy and people walking in to pick up year end payroll stuff have complex questions and are taking up way more time than normal. Can't wait to see the chiropractor tomorrow morning.

The weekend was good. Hung some shelves, got tons of laundry done, grocery shopped, got dd some new glasses and contacts and made some food for the week. Now, I’m basically living for Friday. Work is so busy I have no idea how I’ll ever catch up and it’s affecting my motivation. The weather is crazy. Today we had a snow day, tomorrow will be 2, Wed -17 and Thurs -2. Saturday and Sunday will be close to 40. I will not be surprised if my son wears shorts and I cannot wait to get a run in.
I can’t commiserate on the bad weather - but my Monday annoyance is that it’s my first workday or not being able to drive. I’m currently uber-ing home.
I got out of an out of town meeting because of my foot, so it was really great to catch up on some things.
My brain is fried as this was the Mondayest Monday in s long time.
Logic puzzle. Doctor wants DS home Tues and Wed for wheezing. Work is closed Wed. School is closed Wed and Thurs for extreme cold -50 windchill, but childcare is open. DH is in Buenos Aires. Which days do I go to work?
I could bring DS to work Tues but it’s the 1 day a week I share an office and he’s the all over the place type and boss is frequently in and out of my office. DS is not contagious.
I packed up my stuff and rushed out the door to class. However, it took me a minute to realize it was 9:20. My class wasn't until 10:55. For some reason I was trying to leave an hour early.
Celebrate. I get there and 2 teachers are moving classrooms and half my class asked to help. They need service hours, so I told them all to help and I just supervised.
We skied on Sunday. After considering my previously purchased used equipment, ski discount card, ski passes etc, packed lunch...we paid $120 for a family of 5 for 8 hours of skiing. I think that’s pretty damn good!!
Until we got out of the car in the parking lot and H says “We” forgot our 3 year olds coat. Now.....let’s just leave that statement at that bc I’m sure you mental load moms can understand how that really went.
So he did take responsibility and asked what I wanted to do. Walmart Run? Ski shop? The last thing I wanted to do was pay $120 for a 3T coat.
So I sent him to lost and found and out he came with a hot pink coat for our son.
Done. Great day though! Turned that coat back into lost and found at the end of the day and we made some memories. Don’t judge!
