Random. Dh took Ds to the doctor yesterday because he was hurting in his upper rib cage. The checked him and did an xray, but didn't find anything. He has been taking Advil, but still hurts. School is out again today due to freezing rain. Between the roads, him, and the fact that I have a cold, I called in today. Dd and I are in bed watching Reba
FFFC I have several valid reasons for calling in. I dont have anything pressing due to the fact that the weather has canceled several things this week. But I am still feeling guilty. I am laying here worrying that someone will get the flu next week and I will have to call in again.
Plans. I am supposed to go to moms for supper tonight. Sounds good to me if I don't have to cook. Then I am supposed to practice for our annual variety show tonight. We are doing Sister Act this year. Always wanted to dress as a nun.
Tomorrow maybe yoga with dd depending on how I feel. The kids and I are going to a Superbowl party Sunday.
Dh is working the next 3 days and I can't walk in my master bath or get into my closet until tomorrow.
It's been a crazy week, so I'm ready for the weekend. It should be good, but possibly busy-ish? DD1 wants to have a friend over today, so maybe... then tomorrow we're seeing friends for dinner, so that may involve a heavy cleaning of the house. Sunday is basketball, then my mom wants us to come over for a pre-Superbowl dinner (which means dinner is at like 3:30? Eye roll...). Then home for the big game.
Random: Several reports of bullying at our old school are starting to surface. People are talking about how mean the kids are, how the administration isn't helping, how the parents are equally to blame. They're told that their kids need to "toughen up". Basically, everything that happened to us last year. I feel terrible for the kids, but deep down, I feel vindicated. So many people didn't believe us, and didn't see a problem with the way their kids were acting. Now it's blowing up. I hope that principal gets fired (or, at least, her contract isn't renewed at the end of the year).
The super bowl will be a starch fest. Asking DD to plan the menu but assume Bagel Bites, caprese on Italian bread, queso and tortilla chips, and sushi will be on there. I’ll grocery shop from DS’ trip and organize DH to pick up.
I have my big fitness challenge weigh in on Tuesday. After a weekend away and the Super Bowl. Soooooo sad. I’ll be dipping veggies in queso.
Safari cabin experience with DS this weekend. Lots of time for games, we went to the library and checked out a giant stack of books on the animals at this place and fossils since we will also be hiking to see dinosaur footprints and going to a fossil place. Very excited. He said his cheeks hurt allll night long so worried he’s getting a sinus infection. Horrible timing. But being sick in a cabin overlooking tons of animals, with dedicated mom entertainment would also maybe not be the worst thing for him.
DD is being the coach’s assistant at soccer practice and she’s super crazy excited.
Also I need to look at schedules because I have a homebound meeting for DD Monday. So that should begin. I need to figure out what is optimal for us and then go from there.
My mom is moving out this weekend. We are also prepping for the next month of swim lessons for both kids so I will be digging out swimsuits and packing bags so I can grab and go for swim.
FFFC #1: I like the new Ariana Grande song. (I'm kind of dying on the inside admitting that, btw. But it's catchy!) But I don't want DD to hear it, because she's materialistic enough as it is.
FFFC #2: I'm taking the afternoon off. I'm a parent volunteer at an event at school from 12-2, and then I plan on taking a bath. DD is really upset I'm not picking her up early from school and I told her I had to work. Work on myself, apparently.
Going to the OSU vs UCLA gymnastic meet tomorrow. It should be a pretty spectacular meet. Sunday is laundry, grocery shopping, meal prep, and house cleaning. I got the 1st Harry Potter book from the library for DD. It is in large print and she can't put it down. She took it with to aftercare today since it is a no school day.
I came home early today with a crappy head cold. My entire team has been up and down with this stupid cold the last 2 weeks. I’m writing a 45 minute speech so that’s easier to do with no interruptions at home anyway.
Sunday we are going to do something around the Super Bowl. No idea what other than make bad food decisions, lol. The weather is supposed to be beautiful, so I’m looking forward to that.
2chatter- where are you guys going? Fossil Rim? I’m thinking about something like that over Spring Break if it isn’t sold out.
Had my Foot surgery follow up today. They said it looks good. On Wednesday I’ll get the stiches out and have an X-ray, then one more follow up two weeks later and I’ll be good to go and able to drive again - and hopefully start back with more normal exercise. I’m having no problem getting around - this would have been no big deal at all if it were my left foot and I could still drive.
I tried target delivery through shipt last night and it was great. $99 a year (half off if anyone wants me to send them a code) and I think it will be more than a wash if I’m not buying impulse purchases in-store.
Date night tonight - just dinner since there are no good movies out that we haven’t seen yet. Bday party for a friend of DS1’s tomorrow, haircuts for all 3 kids Sunday. The older kids are spending the night with my parents Saturday night so we’ll probably watch a movie.
We’re havjng a small super bowl party Sunday and I’m excited to make unhealthy goodies like nachos, meatballs, and a cheese log shaped like a football.
sdlaura, I had so many weeks of not driving when my foot was broken. It was really frustrating. Aside from not having to do any daycare drop offs and pickups. That part was glorious. I'd Uber home from work and just relax for an hour until DH got home with the kids. If it didn't involve breaking a foot, I'd kind of be okay with having a broken foot again... :x
sdlaura, yep we will get to see that live. OSU also is ranked #6 for floor so the 2nd half of the meet is going to rock the house. Plus after awards OSU always hosts a dance party for all the kids in attendance and normally the opposing teams join in. They are expecting a packed house (expanded reserved seating 3 times and they are sold out). I think they had almost 5000 people for the OSU-UTAH meet 2 weeks ago.
So I was looking forward to rising temperatures to get outside high forties low fifties, and it's supposed to drizzle for 3 days straight- ugh.
I was planning on outdoor festivals, so now I have nothing planned. We have dance class Sat and having a friend over Sunday for the super bowl. I am tired of trying to find fun places to go to that are inside.
Is baked potatoes/yams considered a meal for dinner? I'm having a hard time coming up with stuff for dinner next month when I don't get home until 7 each night. DH isn't helping at all. I've been running around finishing dinner when we get home at 6 right now while DD is showering. DD gets out and is asking if she can help with table setting and DH is sitting on his ass scrolling through Facebook. I'm cranky, DD is cranky and he can't figure out why we are mad at him. He thinks I should just cook when I get home from scratch and DD can go to bed later. He wanted a whole chicken tonight and figures eating at 9pm is okay. Chicken is frozen solid and no I don't want to eat at 9, I want to go to sleep by then.
186momx, sometimes I don't know how you have the restraint to just straight up not yell at him.
I sort of have that issue with DH but it is more that he wants to eat at 7. It's fine now the kids are older, but back when they were little they would be screaming for food by 5:30 and I want them in bed at 7. If I asked him a noon what's for dinner that was too early, so I figure I can ask at 4, sometimes it 5:30 because I pushed it back and he starts to think he can object it is too early, so then I get to look at the clock and be like it's 5:30... By the time you... and … then it will be 7.
For this month only I would consider something like cook 2 times a week and have leftovers the other days. One of the people on the podcast I listen to do that. Maybe even do crock pot and start it in the morning. I'm not great with leftovers, but something like lasagna works well the next day, but takes longer to cook. I know people do Italian beef or stews in the crock pot. All sorts of things really. If you have a fancy one you could do a delayed start for ones that only take 6 hours to cook, but you are gone 9.
Also, I've been doing stuff like pre-prepared roasted vegetables and Panera soup (from the grocery store). Get prepared foods. Friday- take out. Sunday would be the only day I would really cook. Like we only make whole chickens on Sundays because it takes 2 hours. When I am cooking the night before, I have a note or in my calendar to pull out the meat for the next day, if I am cooking daily.
If you are cooking, they are the obvious ones I do weekly (eggs& bacon, spaghetti, tacos, grilled cheese, sloppy joes) that all take about 20 minutes max. But I also like the sheet pan recipes because it is 1 pan, you put the ingredients on the pan and cook for 20-25 minutes and done. Not much effort.
So for your baked potato, I might add a protein like chicken or salmon/ fish put on the sheet pan with the potato cook for 20-30 minutes depending on size of potatoes.
I've never done this since it seems like more work, but I know people who cook the night before. So lets say Monday night you all eat something stupid because I am not cooking twice like frozen pizza. After you eat the frozen pizza, then you cook dinner for Tuesday night, Tuesday night come home eat dinner, then afterwards cook for Wed night. Repeat as needed.

We have a saturday morning in the classroom event at DD's school plus a rising kindergarten presentation. We're going to both and then DH is going to play cards all night long so it will be just me and the kids. I'm hoping for a leisurely day. Maybe we'll go to target or the park....are those two weird choices?
Sunday we have no plans right now at all so we'll just be home watching the super bowl I guess.
I'm judging a high school science competition all day tomorrow, so I don't know what DH and the kids will be doing. I think I'll give DH a break on Sunday and take the kids out somewhere. It's going to be 50 degrees, so maybe something outside since they haven't been out in days...
waverly, I've yelled, grumbled, and blown up this week. Work was stressful and life wasn't helping. His solution is I need to sit down and veg out for an hour once I get home before I do anything. I was like there isn't time. I do crockpot dinners a ton. I'm with mommyatty, as I don't wash my crock pot every time because I use the liners and it gets used 3 days a week at least. This month I've done the main in the crock pot and just had to boil noodles or roast pre-cut up veggies while DD showers so a nice meal is on the table in 20 minutes. Next week working later means I really need a full on meal in the crock pot or DH needs to step up the 3 days he is home. That why I was thinking potatoes and I can have them in the oven ready to go and just tell DH to turn the oven on when he walks in the door to X degree. Last time I asked him to do frozen lasagna he only cooked it for the thawed time so it was still frozen when we got home to eat. He ate it frozen and could care less but DD freaked out and now refuses to eat it at all.
DH finally admitted that he has a disability but at 38 he is too old to be diagnosed so we just have to live with him being the way he is as there isn't anything they can do to fix it now. I looked at him with a gaping mouth for like 5 minutes. He dropped this when we had company a couple weeks ago and they were telling us about the bladder surgery their DD was going to need to have.
Left work early to meet with the furnace repair guy. He's almost 45 minutes late. I called and their response was "Well, it's not an exact appointment time. We really just mean he could show up any time after that time we gave you."
186momx, potatoes are totally a meal. And you can cook them in the crockpot! I would do something like pulled pork or bbq chicken one night, then bbq chicken or pork pizza on a premise shell the next night, then potatoes with the leftover meat a third night. And I generally try to break up leftovers if thetaste is strong. So bbq chicken, then soup and bread the next night, then bbq pizza and premade salad, then takeout or something remade, then the potatoes. Heck or even chicken sandwiches with a potato on the side.
And I’m sorry, but there’s not an illness or condition on the planet that comes with a date where there’s a “whelp, no treatment for you!” date. Unless he’s saying he needs HGH. That does have a use by date.

186momx , I have a friend who has diagnosed with asbergers last year. She's in therapy and I think it's really helping her. Also her daughter is autistic and I think knowing her own deal is helping her manage he daughters issues as well. FWIW.
ETA: probably was 35 or 36 at the time of diagnosis
186momx, echoing what mommyatty, said. My dad was diagnosed with ADHD, bipolar disorder, and OCD after 50. Which explained some of my childhood, but I doubt that it is really too late.
I have another random... Today was the talent show at DDs' school. DD1 got up with 4 friends and sang a Taylor Swift song. She was just a bucket of anxiety all week leading up to it, had a breakdown in front of everyone because someone sat in her seat just minutes before the show started...
The whole show was AMAZING. The acts were all so different, and every student was screaming and cheering for every performer. I was almost in tears when the girls started singing - everyone was screaming and singing along and clapping... just lovely...
I was talking to another mom who pulled her son out of our old school last year as well - he started at the new school in Sept as a 5th grader. And she said what I was thinking... that if this was at the old school, the kids would have been booing each other off the stage, teasing and bullying for weeks/months after. It was just so awesome that everyone was so supportive of their peers.

Nothing exciting. DD1 was pretty sick most of the week. She’s so much better today and if that’s still true tomorrow afternoon H and I have a date night planned. He’s going out of town this week so I’m blocking off some time Sunday to hit an exercise class and generally be free of kids before he leaves. We are also supposed to go on a guided nature walk, so we will see how the kids hold up on the germ front.

186momx my grocery store sells individually wrapped sweet potatoes and potatoes that you just take the sticker off of and put in the microwave. I'll eat those with smoked sausage and peppers. For a really quick meal, topped with scrambled eggs and cheese.
He can totally get help for a disability at this point in his life.

We had a relaxed evening tonight. We had MIL and SFIL over for dinner. DH cooked everything and it was delicious. However, I'm assuming I'm in charge of clean up even though none of this was my idea. He's also the messiest cook I've ever met.
Tomorrow we are going to lunch with my mom and brother's family for my brother's birthday. We will do grocery pick up on the way home. DH just picked up OT but he wont leave until the kids go to bed.
He works Sunday. I made lunch plans with some girlfriends and my mom will watch the kids. Not much else on Sunday!
My FFFC: we just had an 11 year old exchange student from Mexico stay with us for two weeks. Upon stripping the bed after he left, I discovered that someone wet the bed. I’m 97% sure it was him but there is a slim chance the cat decided to relieve herself in that spot... And I don’t know when it happened so he may have been laying in pee for many days. And my house cleaner who doesn’t wash sheets but makes the beds, probably think I am disgusting right now...
mommyatty - yep, Fossil Rim! I thought of you on the west side of the Metroplex when we stopped at CFA for dinner. Traffic out your way is harrowing! Fossil Rim is a crazy cheap localish getaway, and I can’t believe I had never been. Do it!! But stay on property and book the Family Tour. No one else booked it this Saturday so we got a private tour. DS was feeding 4 giraffes at once. It was unreal (all their heads around him in the open air safari bus). I hear Spring Break is crazy but the family tour starts at the same time as the gates open and it should be a leg up. I could go on with more details - we have a friend who moved to the area so she gave me all the things to do.
186momx - we totally eat potatoes. Sweet potato plus Lloyd’s BBQ - easy dinner. Unsolicited - also love Garden Lites veggie muffins and Dr Pragers kale and broccoli nuggets. Easy when I can’t imagine chopping veggies. Some nights I literally made enough fresh veggies for DD and the rest of us ate packaged stuff.
