I thought of a question: is it dumb for me to hire a house cleaner from now until after I go back to work? I just can’t do it the way I used to and it’s daunting to keep up with. My H is a huge help but I also don’t want him to be consumed with it after the baby comes because he will be with my DD so much. I don’t want to seem lazy but geez. Anyone else outsource cleaning?
It is never dumb to hire a housekeeper if you can afford it. I’ve had one for years, probably at least a decade, well before we had kids. Heck, I hired one when we were child-free and I didn’t work. I’m not cleaning up after my H’s crap and messes all the time, so the choices were to nag him and fight him over it or to throw money at the problem. One choice made (and continues to make) us significantly more happier than the other. I say absolutely hire the cleaner and don’t feel bad about it if you have it in your budget!
Yes!
I SAH but have a house cleaner and love it so much.
I have my 24 week OB appt next week and I was thinking of asking for the order for the 1 hr. glucose tolerance test then instead of waiting for 28 weeks, which is my practice's normal. Last pregnancy I took the 1 hr. at 28 weeks, found out around 29 that I failed and scheduled the 3 hour ASAP ... found out I failed the 3 hour and was dx'ed with GD around 30 weeks... finally got in with an endo practice to start managing it around 30-31 weeks... It super stressed me out that 31 weeks felt so "late" to start doing anything about it. So this time I wanted to catch it earlier if I have it.
I already took (and easily passed) a 1 hr. test and an A1C check at 10 weeks, but at that point it was more to see if I had undx'ed type 2 than GD. I can obviously ask my OB next week, but what's a normal time frame to take the 1 hr. test in to screen for actual GD? Trying to hit the early end of that spectrum.
I hope I don't have it, but next best thing is getting dx'ed in a timely manner.
Susie, the usual time frame is 24-28 weeks. I have heard of OBs doing it at 28 weeks to coincide with usual third trimester labs, to save the patient a blood draw. Although if the patient doesn't pass the 1 hour (and many don't) then what's the point?
Mine did the 1 hour at 26 weeks; I had to look it up. It's not unreasonable to ask for it on the early side.

1. How far along are you this week? 11 weeks
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I took our pic for our social media announcement and I love it. We’re still waiting a week and I want to tell 3 more people before we do it but I’m excited.
3. Questions for the group?
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? I’m not far enough to have a favourite other than being pregnant but least has been my inability to eat. I live off cereal.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? The stories of people having their babies this early freak me out! I don't have any reason to think I'll go early, but I'm super paranoid.
Vent: I'm feeling so sore and tired lately, and the heartburn is almost constant. I just want to lay down all the time. I don't know how anyone still exercises in their third trimester (especially since even a little bit of walking makes me feel crampy or makes the BH kick in).
Random: We took a baby prep class at the hospital over the weekend. While I don't know that I learned much, it helped us both feel more prepared that we at least have the basics down!
3. Questions for the group? When do cervix checks start, and does anyone refuse them? Will the doctor care if I don't want one?
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Favorite: feeling her move all day. I was just thinking the other day about how weird it will be when I won't have the baby with me everywhere all the time. Least: aches and pains and always being paranoid something is wrong. Oh, and stretch marks.

poppyseed, I’m a student who doesn’t have class 2 days a week and still have a house cleaner. I have better things to spend my time on and I really hate things like bathrooms and kitchens.
pandorica, I didn't have any cervical checks last time.
They offered to check at 36w when I had my GBS swab done, and I think each week after that. I never took them up on it. I didn't want to hear "no progress at all" (especially at 38, 39 weeks), and I also didn't want to hear "you're 3 cm!" at like 36 or 37 and then sit tight just like that for weeks on end. My doctors seemed almost relieved, or at least like "yeah, good call" that I was not champing at the bit to know. Mostly I don't like having people up in my business unless there's a good reason, and this didn't seem like a useful reason.

Yeah, I've heard that they aren't very useful (because you could be dilated for weeks or not at all and then bam baby time), plus I've heard its painful so what's the point then haha

2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I am finally feeling slightly more energized after 2 iron infusions for my anemia
3. Questions for the group? I just posted one 4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? I hate the morning sickness and heartburn but I love feeling the baby move and seeing my kids get so excited about a new baby.
How much do you guys pay for your house cleaner? For reference, I love in the south, my house is 2600 square feet - 5 bedrooms and 3 baths but I only want 4 of the bedrooms cleaned. Hardwoods downstairs and carpet upstairs.
I'm an information nerd and want all the information, so I don't mind cervical checks. I also don't find them painful, even when my cervix was high and posterior a week and a half ago.
But yea, they usually do a cervical check starting about 36 weeks, in conjunction with the GBS swab. After that, they're not super necessary. To each their own.
Except. If you're needing an induction, having an idea of how dilated you are at 39-40 weeks determines whether your OB starts you with pitocin, or has you start with cervical ripening first (cytotec, cervidil, Foley bulb). We use a score, called a Bishop's score, to determine how ready your cervix is for induction.

I have my 24 week appointment at the end of this month. When I left my last appointment (20 weeks) she gave me the script for the test so I can go there first, see my OB during the hour wait and then go back.

We pay $100 every other week for our 1600 sq ft 4 bed/2 bath apartment in HCOL (Boston). The initial deep cleaning was more expensive, like $200.

We pay $110/week for a 3/3 house with hardwood throughout. They provide all materials.

$100 for biweekly ($25/hr * 4 hrs). We started with her at 3 hrs/2 weeks, but she was having trouble getting to everything so we increased to 4 hrs.
House is 1860 sf, 4 beds, 1.5 bath. MCOL, burb of a small city. She is pet-friendly and doesn't mind our dog (was 2 dogs when she started; we lost our older boy in October) being here and free. We found her on care.com.
We don't have her doing any laundry or bed linen changes; I do all that myself. We're light on knickknacks to clean around but heavy on dog hair to clean.

We pay $65 for her to come every 2 weeks. We live in a LCOL area. We have a 2400 sqft split level house, mostly vinyl plank and brick, with 3 bed (all carpeted), 3 bath, 2 living areas (one of which is carpeted). She will strip the beds and put on clean sheets, fold laundry if I ask, but otherwise does not do laundry. She will unload the dishwasher and refill and run the dishwasher. It usually takes her 3 hours and she usually has 1 helper.
That's on the low end for our area, but high end for a house our size wouldn't be more than $100.

1. How far along are you this week? 28+3
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? In the last week I've started to feel really pregnant. Belly is bigger, harder to bend down, and my pelvis feels like it's splitting in 2.
3. Questions for the group? At what point do I start to get concerned about position? I only feel movement really, really low so am wondering if she's feet down.
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Favorite - feeling movement Least - Stress through 1st tri/beginning of 2nd tri especially this time around after a loss
3. Questions for the group? When do cervix checks start, and does anyone refuse them? Will the doctor care if I don't want one?
My one and only cervical check was when my OB swept my membranes in my 39th week. It was AWFUL. I almost threw up from the pain. And of course sweeping my membranes didn’t do shit. I hadn’t made any progress when I went in for my induction 6 days later.

The lowest quote I’ve gotten is $105 for biweekly. I feel like that’s high for what I am asking for, but maybe it’s because I’ve never had a cleaner before and I’m just not used to it.
Oh, I thought of a question! Maybe pooh8402 will know? (And I’m following up at my next ob appt)
My neurosurgeon wants to shorten my 2nd stage of labor pharmacologically to reduce stress on my shunt. I’m sure we did the same thing during my first labor & delivery, but I’m totally blanking on what drugs are used for that. Any ideas?
I already know I’m going in at the start of any regular contractions and getting an epidural ASAP, and having my whole labor pretty closely monitored. But I successfully delivered vaginally last time, so fingers crossed it all goes so well this time too! (Obviously ok with a c-section too if it would benefit my/baby’s health)

Hmmm, the only way I know of to shorten second stage (between complete dilation and delivery of baby aka the pushing phase) pharmacologically is to increase the pitocin. But honestly, that doesn't help much and it can stress out baby. But your OB likely knows something I don't. What I've done (and have seen done) when we need as little stress on mom as possible and as short of a pushing phase as possible, is to let her labor down until baby is basically on the perineum. If no pushing at all is desired, then at that point, the OB would use vacuum or forceps to pull baby out. I've had a patient with a shunt before, and that's what we did... labored down then did a vacuum delivery. I believe she had a strong epidural to avoid the urge to push.
Thanks pooh8402! Details of my last labor are getting fuzzy at this point, but I’m pretty sure that’s what we did. I was admitted around 6am with contractions, and got the epidural ASAP, and then ended up having it redone a few hours later once we realized it wasn’t working right. I was given pitocin at some point. Laid around with not much more progress until 8pm, where they then told me if I didn’t deliver vaginally within the next two hours, I’d be looking at a c-section. J ended up coming vaginally at 10:04pm after about 10 minutes of pushing. It’s definitely the prolonged pushing they want to avoid, so it makes sense that they let the baby travel down on its own as much as possible. I did have some tearing, but also delivered a 9 lb 5oz baby.

In Houston suburbs we found someone for 2500sqft, 3/3 and 1 story for $60 which was a steal!
In Dallas our house is not quite 1650sqft, 3/2, 1 story and only 1 room has carpet. I got several quotes for $85-$100 every other week. We provide all supplies & while she changes the beds she doesn’t do laundry.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I tried to wear a dress to church yesterday that I wore at the tail end of my pregnancy last time, it was my shower dress and spring-y and cute. I had sort of been saving it for the end this time (bad idea). It did not fit in the chest AT ALL. My boobs were all smashed and spilling out the top - it was bad. I know that I'm way bigger than last time all around, and especially in the chest, but man. So instead I put on this mumu of a dress, and I looked enormous and so many people at church were like, wow you must be almost done, right? and I'm like oh, no...2 more months... and then later I caught sight of myself in a mirror and it was bad. I need to get rid of that one.
3. Questions for the group? Not today.
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Favorite - feeling the movement. Talking with DD about baby. Least favorite- Pubic symphysis pain!!!! Also just feeling very out of control with my body this time in general, I've gained so much weight, I have so much more pain, it's hard to walk by the end of the day. I've had a really crappy last 2 years or so body wise, from getting Lyme disease to an ovarian pregnancy and losing an ovary, and then I got pregnant this time and was so sick - I just feel like my body hasn't really been normal or my own in a very long time.
icedcoffee your BIL&SIL are total jerks. A gender telling? That's so irritating and I would definitely cut majorly down on your interactions with them if you can, so you can just focus on your own pregnancy and happiness. Is this their first?
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? Starting to finally feel some kicks fairly regularly. My shower is in two weeks (so early!) but I'm very very excited about it. I live far from all my extended family and have friends flying in from around the country, so I'm thrilled to be able to see everyone, and have a long weekend with my friends.
3. Questions for the group? Do you normally only feel kicks in one spot all day? Or would it be normal to feel them in more than one area? He's still pretty small but not sure how much he would be moving around? I have an anterior placenta so I'm still not entirely confident what I'm feeling are kicks!
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Favorite part is definitely the kicks, I am loving my bump (FTM) right now, and decorating the nursery (I love the creative process of decorating a room). Least favorite is definitely the anxiety and worry after loss and IVF, followed by missing intense workouts and hate feeling out of breath at the simplest things. And I really really miss wine and sushi. And margaritas. A lot more than I should....

It is not their first. Ironically, DS1 and their first kid are 7 weeks apart and now we are 7 weeks apart again. So this is the second time they've announced their pregnancy a week before my IVF transfer. The first time they were less hurtful and obnoxious though. This time they seem to have forgotten completely how to not be jerks. We've pulled away from them over the past year and this is pretty much the final straw. Other things they've done include bragging that their first pregnancy cost them one $10 copay for everything (they know we spent over $30k to conceive and deliver DS) and his brother ROASTING my H at our wedding during his speech. We're done and we've decided we're going to just focus on us for now. Our interactions will be limited to the times we see them at my IL's for now.
I hear you on just being bigger the second time around. I tried on some stuff from my first pregnancy and I have no idea how anything will fit in 3rd tri.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? My energy level seems to have spiked back up, if my motivation to purge clothes from my bedroom is any indication. I need to get started on our spare bedroom too (we've been using it as storage but it's going to become AJ's room), but I'm also planning to take a week off work next month and that is going to be my main project then.
3. Questions for the group? Not that I can think of.
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Favorite-feeling baby move and actually looking pregnant. Least-not being able to eat/drink what I want.
