DH is going for work training. My ticket would be free with American points I think. Typically flights are overnight which suck because I don’t sleep on the plane. But there is a 9 am flight that gets in at 11 pm so I would be able to sleep when I get there. Be there 1.5 days and fly back around 5 pm Sunday.

I would have to fly by myself there and possibly back.
If I could arrange childcare and nothing huge going on at work, I think I would. Although I would want a slightly longer trip. At least 3 nights in country for me, but I would also take what I could get.
My mom agreed to it so free childcare. Not easy since she is a 5 hour drive away and snow is a factor. There is always a chance of snow issues and she can't make it.
Other issue is that DH's job involves lot of last minute changes. He seems to have a hard time planning for things. This training is planned and approved, but my worry is that boss will say something last minute you need to be somewhere else. Or like with Brazil he didn't have his ducks in a row, and couldn't get a visa in time. I will check now if there are any UK/ England visa requirements. OK, I am just waiting on him...

Depends on if you enjoy times spent on a plane - and I don't mean that sarcastically. I enjoy plane rides - I get into my comfy clothes with slippers, take off all make-up, order a glass (or 2) of wine, read my books, and watch movies, and I thoroughly enjoy the alone time. Whereas for my DH, he can't truly relax on a plane, so a short trip like that wouldn't be very fun for him.
traveltheworld, I don't really enjoy plane rides. The getting to the airport is stressful for me, but that is usually with kids in tow. And once on the plane, the air is so stale. I would fly during the day because if I go overnight I basically don't sleep at all and am gutted. Since we already feel a bit crappy on the plane, wine kind of makes things worse. I can get into several good books though.
Yes, but my motto is with my limited time here on earth, I want to see as much as possible. Now if I had already been to London, maybe no if it is a huge hassle for a weekend trip, unless it was one of my favorite places.

Possibly. I’ve taken that flight twice to London and I like it because I don’t feel pressured to sleep since I normally can’t sleep on planes either (side note - my boss told me about this Trtle pillow that I used on my last trip and it was amazing. I actually slept). However, border control can be a nightmare at that time. Last time I think I waited for over an hour to get through. Then it’s an hour to London. By the time I got to my hotel it was 7 ish my time so I was hungry and ate dinner. Then I tossed and turned all night and woke up at Noon. For me it wasn’t a big deal because I came in a couple days early so I could “waste” a day.
I think it’s doable but you have to mentally prepare yourself to be tired and jet lagged and then you have to turn around and do it all again.
The training just got axed. Oh well. Thanks for the responses and the logistics.
DH is like I have to be at a conference in Oklahoma City this weekend want to come. 1. No not last minute. 2. I have plans and have to work Sunday.
I hate how his schedule is so last minute because I would have gone if I were free that weekend. He kind of acts like I have no life and when I list 5 things I am doing he is like oh.
waverly - married to the SAME man. And it’s become a trigger for me - seriously, in what part of his brain is he unable to process the 9 million things I do???
