The thing with Meri and a 4,000 square foot house is that many developers determine a minimum square footage of houses in their development. If they're all wanting to live next to one another and 4,000sq ft is the size of the houses in the neighborhood then it's not like Meri can just build a 1,500 sq foot house instead. Meri drives me crazy but everyone harping on her for a giant house annoys me even more.
I never thought about that. Makes sense.
Jalapeñomel, I also am a bit embarrassed about the dig to Meri re: the size of her house as it relates to S-IF. I also didn't think about. Sorry about that.

There was something in particular I remember about her HAVING to have the wet bar, but the floor plan with the wet bar was bigger or had an extra bedroom or something, but she wouldn’t settle for an alternate without the wet bar. So it wasn’t just “she should build a smaller house.”

So, did they buy four houses or one house in Arizona?
Looks like they are renting several homes now with plans to build on property they have bought. makes sense that they can really customize how they want their homes to be completely. Wonder if the married kids would build homes on the property too.

Ok I’m watching SSW now, and the Snowden’s are bitching about the red meat while driving a giant SUV that has leather seats?
Yes! I still am annoyed of a spouse kind of dictating what they want their spouse to eat or not eat because of their personal feelings rather than it being something that they both felt from the beginning and then expecting a person change their diet too. I agree about not keeping it in the house, etc, but i think when are out, the person, an adult, should eat what they like.
There is something about it that grates maybe because it seems like one way respect.

This is so stupid to me. They wanted to go back to Utah. Buuuuut they didn’t.
So they didn’t want to grow old in Vegas. Cool. Get that. But why not wait until you can actually build that house? What’s the rush? Now you’re all in rentals again like you were when you first got to Vegas, and still haven’t sold your houses there.

Kody is so impulsive.
Somebody above said that they had balloon mortgages that was about to come due.

Yeah and Janelle wanted her son to finish out high school there and then Maddie just moved there specifically because her mom9s) were going to help with childcare while they finish school.
i get so annoyed because he says if one goes, we all go, or something like that, but what he really means is what I want to is what we will do no matter what.

Right, but the houses are still on the market. And have been for a while now.
I wonder if they tried at all to refi into new fixed mortgages.
So he just wants to legitimize being a philanderer?
Ah, yup.
Somehow this does not surprise me. At all. Honestly I think many of the men in SSW have the same want, though some of them are using the cover of religious belief.

This is especially clear with the couple who just moved into their new house after living in the RV. His initial profile picture for them was of him. just him. lol
I’m behind on this but I’ve always wondered what their situation is with heath insurance and if that would play into Kody’s mindset about the surgery.
I imagine that he is only legally married to one, or possibly even none, of his wives. If few/none of them work, those wives and their kids would qualify for Medicaid, based on their income. If he has his own business/is self-employed, they could qualify under whatever group insurance he has if he paid them (in my state which is not wherever they live) minimum wage x 25 hours/week as “employee + child(ren)”.
ETA: they have a bunch of kids, right? Or are they not like the Duggars? Bc in my state a family of 6 can qualify for Medicaid woth no premium and $5-$10 copay with an income of ~$66k/year. Not super high, of course, especially with that many kids, but since he is only legally married to one (based on responses below), his income doesn’t count. This was apparently a thing recently where several families in one (tiny religious minority) community in my state, the h/w weren’t legally married (but are married in the eyes of their religion), have a bunch of kids (8+ in one case I can recall), and they received Medicaid and other benefits. People involved were arrested and charged with fraud to the tune of millions of dollars. The community, centered especially in one town, is continually and IMO unfairly, under fire bc of discrimination and prejudice bc of their religion; the comments sections for the articles surrounding the charges were absolutely unreal, sick, and horrifying.

he is legally married to Robyn. They did this to get legal custody of her kids from her first marriage.

Janelle used to work? Does she still? Wonder if she or he can claim those kids as dependents? Or otherwise just pay out of pocket for insurance on the exchange. They still hould all be eligible for chip right?

She still works, i think, and she also started this other company Strides with janelle, though she has not updated it recently.
I actually think Meri losing the job she really liked, when they were still in Utah, kind of kick started a lot of her unhappiness. like maybe that was one thing too many.

I would imagine getting Medicaid would be hard for them considering the whole televised polygamy thing.
I have no issues with polyamory if the interested parties are all in agreement as to why they are polyamorous.
But this is not happening on this show—-the women are expected to have kids and be at their husband’s beck and call. There is no equal partnership.

I don’t watch the show and have no idea what they look like plus it is possible they use aliases on the show, right? Or has it already been determined that they don’t?

They definitely use their real names. From my experience (I used to work with one of the older children in an educational setting), they try to keep a fairly low profile when not filming. But they are actually fairly normal. The child (young adult at that point) is exceptionally bright and well-grounded and my brief interaction with the parents was as normal as one can possibly imagine. But they don’t try to hide who they are, and are aware that they are very recognizable in public.

I do think the Brown kids appear to be relatively well adjusted and good kids. They’ve grown up on television, but their parents seem to have done a great job at keeping them grounded.
I wonder if the Brown's all qualify for SAG insurance? Wonder if being on a reality show qualifies you for SAG?
I'm not caught up on SSW but I cannot stand the Snowden's! Wasn't crazy about them last season but they are even worst this time around. The wife especially bugs me because she really comes off as holier than thou. The three with the husband with the kermit the frog voice are coming off as the most normal this time! lol
