We are in the Midwest and it’s a high of 28 today. Do you put your kids in short sleeves? Brought you to by the cutest short sleeved dress for today with tiny hearts embroidered but would look weird with a shirt underneath. She’d obviously have tights on and protests all sweater type shirts. I’m lucky I get a jacket on her.
I’m all for it and didn’t think twice but my husband told me otherwise.
I usually throw a plain white long sleeved shirt underneath, but that would look weird with a dress I think. I'd do tights and make her wear the sweater to travel to daycare. I'd tell her she could take it off at daycare if she wants. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't.
My kid is wearing a shirt sleeve corduroy dress today. Probably should have sent a sweatshirt but half the time she just wears a T-shirt in class. Same temp here too.

Depends on the kid. My daughter is always cold, so if she has a short sleeve/sleeveless shirt/dress for a special occasion and it's under like 50, she'd want to wear a sweater or cardigan with it, and we have lots for her to choose from. But she also wore a 3/4 sleeve dress yesterday and didn't want a sweater. My ds on the other hand, is always hot, although I'm happy that he's not one of the kids who insists on wearing shorts in cold weather. He had a star wars Valentine's day shirt to wear today that was short sleeve, and I had him wear it today with pants and didn't think twice about it.
28 degrees is warm? It's literally below freezing! It's 50 right now and I debated sending a jacket to daycare (and did). In OP's situation, I would make it a hill to die on and force a jacket/sweater.
My mom is coming in this weekend for my baby shower and the high that day is like 45, with a low in the 20s. She was like "can I borrow some of your clothes that day so I don't have to pack as much?"
We’d put a hoodie (or sweater) over it, but my boys are always hot and would probably take it off at school. 28 feels like a major heat wave!
Same with DD. I'd send her. She's indoor all day anyway and she'd wear a jacket or fleece to and from the car. She also runs hot and would take any kind of jacket or sweater off (inside). I figure if she's not cold, why fight it.

And yall have your kids in short sleeves.
28 is not bad for some of us! And my kid is always hot! She has worn capris and short sleeves several times this winter. She has literally told me before that 50 degrees is shorts weather. Lol I’m the exact opposite though...always cold!
I wouldn’t send my kid to play outside wearing just short sleeves but to wear in school or daycare...I wouldn’t care. It depends on the kid though. My kid is always warm and I’m always cold. I just let her do what she wants because I can’t understand how she’s not cold! But she doesn’t care.
If I send DD to daycare in short sleeves over the winter, I usually include a hoodie. The center is warm enough where I'm not concerned if she's in short sleeves, so either I or the teacher might take off the hoodie once she gets inside.
In fact, leaving for daycare I carry her out to the car in long sleeves or short sleeves with a hoodie, and carry her big winter coat separately (usually I wrap it around her). Rather than wrestle the coat onto her in the house just to have to take it off at the car 30 seconds later because it won't work with the car seat.

I mean, 28 is obviously not "warm" but it is not like these kids are outside all day (if at all). For me, I personally would be chilly so I would not wear a t shirt by itself in the winter period. But I know my daycare center runs wicked hot. I regularly send S to school in a t shirt with a sweatshirt over it (jacket on for outdoors) and will pick him up and he is just in the t shirt.
Keep in mind, those of us in colder climates are used to this weather. I take my 18 month old out to play in the snow if it is even 15 degrees. We went sledding and skiing and hiking last week when it was 18. You dress warm while you are outside and in your home/office/school/daycare you dress like normal, as we have heat to keep our homes at a balmy 70 degrees. If the kid is going to be outside all day I would probably put them in a long sleeve under their jacket, but since they will be outside likely for a short period of time, I would be fine with this.

It’s all relative. Just 2 weeks ago, our real temp was -30 and wind chill was -55! So, that feels like over 80 degrees different! The difference between 20°F and 100°F! So yes, today we will wear lighter coats, unzipped. And when we get out of the car to go into a store, the kids won’t put a coat on. You really do adapt! (Our first winter after we moved back from living in warmer locations was brutal!) Plus, tomorrow’s high is 7, so we have to enjoy what we can!
It was 26 degrees this morning and I told DD that it felt like summer, so I get you! DD also wore a short-sleeved dress today so I obviously see nothing wrong with this lol. I put a sweater in her backpack if she got cold at school, but she also has appropriate winter gear for going outside so it's fine.
I put long sleeves under short sleeved dresses in winter. If it really doesn't look right with something underneath, I'd still use the short-sleeved dress for a special occasion, but probably with a sweater or hoodie.
BB has been wearing short sleeves every day for the past two weeks due to her cast. We add a sweater but she takes it off, and she's been fine. Outside she has a jacket on and hasn't complained of being cold once even when we had frigid temps.

Both my kids would go in short sleeves. I try to get the older one to wear a sweatshirt or a cardigan because she gets more outside time, but she says her class is too hot.

pooh8402 You would not survive here. 20 is warm compared to the -70 wind chills we had a couple weeks ago! 😂
But on topic.. I will put my kids in short sleeves but put a jacket on them when we go outside. Inside if they're cold, they use a sweatshirt (or we have a cardigan A could wear over a dress). E currently only wears shirts with "sleeves like this" pointing to his wrist so he only wears long sleeve right now.. lol.
estrellita, my coworkers make fun of me. They'll show up to work in a hoodie and flipflops, and I've got my down coat, gloves and hat on, wearing my Ugg knockoffs. You're right, I totally wouldn't survive, haha.
DS runs hot & is always sweaty. He has no problem with short sleeves while being inside during the winter. He has hat/gloves/snow pants/coat/boots in his cubby for outside time.
DD runs cooler. Our weather is similar and her Vday shirt is of course short sleeved, so I threw a longsleeve underneath. If not long sleeves underneath, then I would have sent her with a cardigan or zip up sweatshirt on top. If she takes it off fine, but I'd want her to have the option to put something on if it's chilly inside.
I’d be fine with short sleeves inside. I’d have an extra layer (sweater/hoodie) etc for under her coat outside. I’m sitting at home in a tank top since our heat is blasting (steam heat, can’t control temp) and I know my son’s classroom runs hot too.

I cannot imagine! I mean, I like being warm, but I get hot so quickly, lol. Being in 100 degrees is my nightmare--unless I am on a beach!
